  • I will never forget the night we danced till the vuvuzela's died. The night that Xhosa, Afrikaans, Zulu, Capetonian, Upper Boereworsgordynian, English, uFrench, Malasian and Koi-San and a triple treble of proud and strong tribes merged into a tre-trefoil of fortune. South Africans, World Champions of Rugby. World Champions of Peace. Next stop, World Champions of Prosperity

  • Makes me proud to be a South African. I want to go back there so badly, I miss my family. <3

  • and racist people get off this page!!1

  • Bryan habana!!!1

  • omg you guys from all over make me proud to be South African :)

  • @yosoystusutcliffe And I type the word Cape Coloured because it is the politically correct term in South Africa on multiracial South Africans... in the former Cape of Good Hope Province... I didn't typed that to be racist... Come on... I'm a Mandela guy... so don't accuse me so wrongly...

  • @yosoystusutcliffe I'M A FUCKING RACIST? Ok... I'll calm myself down... because I agree that this is the best national anthem right now... I'm not being racist... I'm just explaining the fact that someone out here wants some affirmative action thing for a sport that's being played by white South Africans exclusively for 100 years until 1994... that's not going to happen fast... and black South Africans play more soccer... ARRGH... Damn... Yeah... I don't get your point about me being racist...

  • cmon south africa , best place in the world

  • im not south african but i think this is the best national anthem

  • nice anthem , I felt south african for 1:30 minutes

    Greetings from Argentina

  • @TheBlinked1 Please check my answers already... it's not that enough for you... ?Remember that South Africa has been a black nation for a less than 2 decades... And a lot of black South Africans are still not playing that much rugby... for they prefer soccer over rugby... Did you also want to complain why the US basketball team is full of African Americans considering the US is in North America and all....?? I don't get you people....

  • Proud to be a South African in the United States ARMY GO BOKKE!!

  • There's a lot of black rugby players already... but they're not that talented compared to the whites overall....

  • @elyjugsbomb099 let your racism out of this and listen to the best national anthem ever!

  • @GeckoPictures There's a Cape Coloured in there... And Afrikaners still dominate rugby... and it's their sport... so expect it... as we expect the US basketball team to be dominated by African Americans....

Look at their soccer team... it's the one dominated by blacks.... because blacks more soccer than rugby... it's just that way...

  • where are all the black people?

  • @GeckoPictures1 -Yeah,....considering it's Afrika and all.

  • South african and proud :) these are the times when I feel like jumpin onto the tv and hug those guys .. Makin too me proud guys :D I wanna go back to south africa :'( missin it big time

  • Comment removed

  • OMG this is such a wonderful national anthem. God bless South Africa.

  • What a wonderful anthem, unifying a country which such a troubled history and sung so passionately by all players regardless of their background, its such a contrast to the disgraceful excuse for an 'anthem' that we irish rugby fans have to put up with! Irelands call is a joke so pathetic its only there so the ulster lads dont feel put out singing Amhran na Bhfiann, if they have a problem with it they should play for england! Its a even bigger insult when none of the ulster players even sing it

  • Thumbs up if your a proud to be south african

  • @RehabAssAssin I'm not south African but I'm African American! So..thumbs up anyways! Woo!

  • @ASHL0TTE Well i guess that counts

  • @RehabAssAssin

Thumbs up if you're sad you're not south african :(

  • this is fucking amazing.

  • @sharperimage1234567 this is before the match

  • No-one black in the team? Why?

  • @LarryScottBB because,the team were mostly whites

  • If you thought the anthem was power...you should have seen our game that night!

  • My favourite national anthem in the world. From a Scotsman. God bless South Africa

  • Do not understand a word of it, but love it. Filled with so much power, hope and majesty.

  • @kathleenntuli I agree 200% with u. I live in Namibia and I see how that dick that got a F for woodwork is ruining SA.The worst part is the supporters who are just as idiotic as he is.There is a reason apartheid was there and it should be brung back here.I truly pray for the beautiful SA.

  • LISTEN TO MY AFRICA ANTHEM ...MERCI

  • still... when ''die stem'' starts the guys start singing lounder and the mainly white croud too....

  • @lkrnpk true but in fairness "Die Stem" is in a language(s) they know and speak everyday, whereas "Nkosi sikelel' they had to learn phonetically as most of the whites are not Xhosa/Zulu speakers

  • @lkrnpk Why is it that foreigners always make stupid comments like this? What's your point?

  • @kathleenntuli just fuck off

  • @GorilusManguilus Yeah that's true, I'm looking at this from a neutral perspective as I don't live in South Africa. I guess the same can be said about the South African football team, except its the opposite to the rugby team. Awesome national anthem though! :)

  • im from south africa, moved to canada when i was 6 so i dont really know the anthem but i rlly want to ;learn it cuz its soo awesome :=(=])=======Q=

  • @kathleenntuli Nothing worse than a black racist. Go blow a wildebeest.

  • @MsSockaccount South Africa has ben Affected most by AIDS and racism.Corruption.

  • @kathleenntuli What kind of bullshit is this? Take your conspiracy theories elsewhere. This is what one would expect as I assume you'd rather be misgoverned, starved and robbed like the people to the north in Zimbabwe....the Africans there were much better off under the British and for that matter they lived better when Ian Smith was running the place.

  • @MsSockaccount "Africans were much better off under the British.." First off this does not seem like the place to write this crap... My kids have taught me to grow up and quit being a racist stereotype... for that I am thankful... When you really get to know the TRUE picture, you will learn our British and Euro forefathers were good at raping and pillaging the resources and forcing native people on every continent to buy back what was theirs to begin with... GROW UP, SUPERIOR BEING!!

  • @xxxricky Learn to read and you can be a superior being, too. I was referring to Zimbabwe only. Africans there were better off under the British . They had jobs, sufficent food and hope. Under the criminal Robert Mugabe they have nothing. They were sold a bill of goods. Personally I believe SA has a great future but crime, corruption and illiteracy must be addressed.

  • @GorilusManguilus Don't need to bring race into this buddy :)

  • This is a lolvely national anthem - and that they can change into different laungages is awesome!

    God Bless South Africa.

  • Gives.me goose.bumps hearing.this. (nj/usa)

  • God Bless South Africa!

  • We sing this in Finland in a church! Of course we have different lyrics but still.. It goes like " God bless whole world, bless Australia and big Asia " Etc.. :o

  • Great Anthem

  • Spring boks are my favorite Rugby team.....thank you invictus

  • BEST...ANTHEM...IN...THE...WORLD...

  • OS AFRICANOS SABEM FAZER MÚSICA COM FÉ CRLHO!

  • I'm not South African but this Nkosi Sikeleli just makes me want to become one. Best national athem in the world.

  • @2valu4ever That it is. What a rallying call for freedom and peace. God I love being South Africa.

  • @2valu4ever Thanks

  • @2valu4ever Damn straight!

  • @2valu4ever I Know isnt it!

  • i proudly sing this anthem as a brother to the south Africans

  • And congratulations to the unsung hero of the 2007 win, Jake White, who picked the national team up from the doldrums it found itself in in the early 2000s to achieve victory in the World Cup.

  • Its game in SOWETO 2010....

  • does ANYBODY knows what is the name of the theme on 1:27 the moment when John Smith runs out on the pitch.... it's killing me ANYBODY?

  • I just moved from south africa to portugal just hearing this song makes me feel so proud. All of uss coming together as one.

  • WE TAKING THE WEBB ELLIS TROPHY AGAIN THIS YEAR!!!!!

  • WHITE AND BLACK AFRICAN ! UNITE ! i love this.... Fxck America, Africa is where it's at, where every race is ONE race..

  • @willemelis: In the first instance, abuse won't advance your case, so kindly refrain from cheap insults. Secondly, I never mentioned lenguage, I merely pointed out that the South African party were singing two anthems rather awkwardly welded into one (the modulation from one to the other is particularly unmelodious). It is an amalgam of two anthems - one African, one white. In a country where the whites represent only a fraction of the nation's ethnic groups, this is highly inappropriate.

  • @supportme123 Jesus you talk shite man, so because we have 5 million whites in SA and 40 million people of colour, the white aspect of out culture can't be represented... ( are you on drugs?)....the only thing inappropriate, is that your folks were allowed to have kids.......damn shame!!

  • @Tincats123 Ah dear, always such a pity when people have to stoop to insults to make their point. I am not saying that the white element has no place in SA's culture - I just see no reason why there should be a place reserved for the white element in the national anthem. Why not a special section for the Cape coloured, the Zulus, etc...?

  • @supportme123 You obviously bring out the worst in people, hence the ' Insults' in their reply's. I think this is a case of you trying to make a point, yet you know nothing about South Africans our culture or traditions. Our nation does not moan about our anthem, we sing it with passion and we sing it together. There are always going to be people such as yourself, who try and make it a race issue, if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all. Later Instigator.........

  • @Tincats123 first of all your comments have no factual bases, second of all u are a retard for saying what you said. I quote "Why not a special section for the Cape coloured, the Zulus, etc...?" The first part of the National anthem is Zulu you retard befor u make ur self a complete retard do some research. Oh and on emore thing shut up

  • @FILIPEB777 It was not me who said that mate, it was @supportme123 ~ I agree with your comments, he is just an old fool looking for an argument!!

  • @FILIPEB777 I notice you use the word "retard" as a term of abuse. If I described someone as a "n***er", YouTube would probably ban me for life, and rightly so. Therefore, what gives you the right to insult others by abusing the mentally disabled, which is just as unacceptable as insulting people for the colour of their skin?

  • @Tincats123 Why is this amalgam national anthem also played at fixtures involving the national football team, which hardly ever features a white player?

By the bye, none of this detracts from my admiration for the South African rugby team who - ardent England fan that I am - thoroughly deserved to lift the WWE Trophy (even though we gave you a damned good run for your money in the final!)

  • @supportme123

Politically correct folks rarely get it. The current version of Die Stem van Suid Afrika sings about the land and freedom of SA. The melody is beautiful and it appeals to the hearts of the vast majority of South Africans. The Russians brought back the Soviet melody with new lyrics, I don't see how a new, freer and more unifying version of Die Stem is different.

  • @idahobuckeye OK, reasonable point, but has it not occurred to you that many black South Africans might regard Die Stem as a symbol of their previous repression by the whites, and therefore best not revisited?

  • @supportme123

I realize that but it doesn't make sense to not revisit that era, if the world insists on Germany revisiting over and again the Holocaust and the nightmare of the Third Reich.

The new lyrics are not offensive (and the old one never was), the melody is beautiful, and it's part of a brilliant national anthem sung in 5 languages. There shouldn't be a problem. There are much more pressing needs, like AIDS, a crumbling economy and loss of vision in the ruling parties of SA. :)

  • @supportme123 To a South African, the anthem is one we sing with pride, it is not two anthems, there is no white anthem or an african anthem, only a South African one. There is no reserved place for the white element, not only white people speak afrikaans and english and not only african people speak Xhosa, Zulu and Sesotho. I'm 16 and have grown up in a democratic South Africa. Race doesn't matter, we all sing our national anthem with pride. There's no reason to hate.

  • @AllieGolach Hi there, I am sorry of you feel that I expressed "hatred", that was not at all my intention - I merely expressed some reservations, in moderate language, about the composition of the SA national anthem - that is all, and I respect everyone's opinion on this even if i do not agree with it. And, as I have written earlier, I am a great admirer of South African rugby (and cricket), they thoroughly deserved to win the 2007 Cup even if we gave them a damned good game in the Final!

  • @AllieGolach just because curiosity, are you afrikaner?

  • @breizhcatalonia1993 No, i am not

  • @AllieGolach I wish there were more people like you. Down with prejudice, up boks!!

    Hi from Spain

  • beautiful song!

  • SPRINGBOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry to intrude on this roseate hue, but if the whites and blacks in SA are now soooo blissfully united why do they still need two anthems - surely this is apartheid but in a different form?

  • Comment removed

  • @willemellis To correct you, there are more than 3 languages. This fact kind of makes your comment just as funny as the one you were mocking. There are actually five languages in the anthem: Xhosa, Zulu, Sesotho, Afrikaans and English.

Don't call people dumbasses for not knowing something when you dont know about it yourself.

    Thanks and come again.

  • @supportme123 It's one anthem in several languages dude.

  • @supportme123 They have only one anthem you idiot.

  • Comment removed

  • Touching

  • Fantastic clip!!! Just look at them - I've never seen a national team who looks that proud! Usually there's just a few guys singing, & it sounds more like mumbling - But EVERY SINGLE ONE is singing here, loud & clear!!!

  • the guy between 1:32 and 1:35 is a legend

  • Godbless Afrika and the entire world, out of many we are but one. Kongo salutes you

  • GrandonaGodoy u are a hater of peace in the world. serioously u need to think before u speak

  • Those football players can't really sing, but it doesn't matter!

You can see they love their country and over all it's a beautiful anthem!

  • @Jlnkht Letting the people sing the anthem is in contrast to what we Americans do..getting some star to sing the US anthem, and he/she'll either overdo it or mess it up.

  • @warlaker But I don't live in the US, I'm from the Netherlands!

And here mostly half of the players keep his mouth shut during the anthem...

But luckily we have those orange supporters who scream the anthem for two... O:)

  • I hope all South Africans die.

  • @GrandonaGodoy lol why??

  • @NZxASSASSIN I hate them

  • @GrandonaGodoy yea, so why do you hate south africans?

  • @NZxASSASSIN My parents were killed in Cape Town

  • @GrandonaGodoy

    then just hate killer

don't hate all of south african

and sorry to hear that god bless your father and your family

  • @GrandonaGodoy That sucks man... Sure there is a lot of crime in South Africa but don't hate all Souh Africans. Infact don't hate at all because that is probably what drove the killer into insanity.

  • @GrandonaGodoy killed by who?

  • @tintsap South Africans

  • @tintsap i wont be surprised if it happen in Johannesburg

  • @GrandonaGodoy that's disrespectful >:(

  • Ünglaublich_lÈÜtË_sûcht_mål_nÅch:_olikohle_âûf_gôÕglÊ_v0ll_gêIl

  • I think this is one of the most beautiful and powerful national anthems. I love that the national anthem symbolizes the unity of everyone in South Africa, regardless of the country's past history. The words and music are very moving.

  • Beautiful anthem

  • Beautiful!!!!! (from Brazil)

  • The real encounter of all mankind will not be obtained when we all speak a single language, or when we all share the same beliefs, will be when the beliefs of every man, transmitted in the language of each one, join in the same beauty, the same singing... Like the anthem of South Africa.

  • Truly a magnificent anthem! Proud to belong to South Africa!

    Bokke Bokke!!!!! <3 GO SPRINGBOKS!

  • <3

  • That is THE most moving national anthem I've ever heard. The use of so many different languages testifies to the country's desire to blend its many ethnicities, however hard that is to do and however long it might take ("let us live and strive for freedom"). And the idea to transition from Nkosi sikelele Afrika to Die Stem was a masterstroke. South Africans should be very proud of what they've done and are doing. -- an American

  • best anthem I love it

  • I love how this anthem brings all races and languages together.....greetings from the USA

  • Fuck England!

    Nice Anthem! :)

  • @sgefreak1989 Fok jou, lank lewe die koningin

  • Comment removed

  • @JFP84 lol are you serious?

  • Comment removed

  • @pusifut I meant no disrespect and apologize if i offended you; I was merely referring to how the song was sang with the empowering lyrics "Italy has called, we are ready to die" in comparison to "god bless us" and not in general.

  • @willclarke90 oh no dear none taken. its just that ive never heard anyone spoke of the Italian anthem so now I know.

  • I'm not South African....but i still had goosebumps seeing this!!!!! Absolutely spectacular!!!

  • Wait, a national anthem that doesn't talk about crushing your enemies?

  • splendid!

  • wow you have to admit that afrikaans bit just SMASHED, nice to see everyone knowing the lyrics as well, and still most beautiful and meaningful anthem in the world

  • I love this anthem its so beautiful , i remmber hearing once in new zealand sung for a netball match againt south africa ,,,2 country western singers from hamilton NZ preformed it, brought tears to my eyes ,,, alas I dont know he meaning of it ( i will google later ) looking forward to the upcoming rugby world cup 2011
