They tore down the Fair Store yesterday-and I cried because she was so beautiful-especially in the Summer with all the flowers and at Christmas time with her lights. Just buildings yes, but all good memories.
Aww..God bless them. I hope there were no injuries or deaths from this Tornado. Although I am very intrigued with severe weather and Tornadoes, I never, ever like to see this type of destruction.
How terrifying! Where I live we just get Mt.St.Helens, earthquakes, torrential rains and high winds. Huge tree missed house by inches this winter. A twister dropped here in SW Washington last summer I think. Visited Lee's Summit about 15 yrs ago and we got caught in a huge sheet lightning storm & no one else on the road (um). Seattle-ites used to 24/7 gridlock, we knew THEY knew something we didn't know!! Parked under a stone bridge amazed and chanting "rubber tires." Tornadoes scare me most!
And me and my grand daughter were just browsing the strawberry festival elmwood throws every year. Its amazing that noone was hurt or killed in this storm. We had just gotten in the door in yates city and the siren went off. We hit the basement just in time! Elmwood was hit this time last yr too and lost some of the grand old trees in central park.
I live in yates city and my family live in elmwood. My sister and her daughter and 3 lil baby girls lived in the apartment above whopers bar. Its at 2:17 in this vid.
i use to live in yates i grow up there and i had alot of friends in elmwood this makes me cry i have family in the grave yard in yates and a friend that still lives in elmwood this kills me to see this if their is a place on the net where we can give money to the town to help please let me know i would like to help
Is going to be very often before the town gets owned again by another tornado. Rebuilt the town so another tornado destroy it again, and make you people look like punks rebuilding the town again, and again. Maybe tornado is a sign of stop cutting trees down. -_-?
@X4SerioX4ese Naaa...People have been cutting down trees since before jesuses time....Pssh Jesus lived in a house, therefor we can state that theres nothing saying stop cutting down trees. But Thats veiw you can go ahead and veiw it your way though:)
I use to live about 3 miles away in Yates City... old farm house.... talked with a friend of mine who has kids and said they were ok but, shaken up... I use to drink beer in the bar that is on other side of the movie theater... Wow!
Man I can't EVEN IMAGINE what these people were/are feeling besides the fact that they survived this BEAST!!!! My heart and prayers go out to ya'll!!!!
Amazing how the brick front of that building was just ripped out....so much for assuming that brick is strong. Of course, the building may have been over a hundred years old. And think what deadly projectiles the bricks would be.
This looks good compared to the immediate aftermath. Elmwood you should be so proud of how all the teams pulled together to help clean up this "war zone". I have never been more proud of a community as yours. I am so thankful that there weren't any casualties or injuries on my watch. Whoever was praying for Elmwood and our safety- THANK YOU!!!!!!!
This was the day of the Strawberry Festival, We were supposed to vend there on June 5th. We had our canopy's set up on Friday evening. That night and early on Saturday Morning we saw the storms that were heading across the country and since we sell Figurines and collectibles we decided to opt out and leave early with our losses in tact (financial). We told the people there that we heard bad storms were on the way and just couldn't take the chance on losing our product due to weather damage.
I can see that Lorado Taft's sculpture is still standing in the park. It's called "The Pioneers" and it reflects the pioneer spirit that built and will rebuild this tiny town that was my mother's childhood home.
Thank you so much for sharing these devastating photographs.
saddness is all that comes to my heart. i now live in st petersburg florida having to move here to look for work. all i have are memories now of an apartment that i was brought home to when i was a newborn baby. the apartment above the pottery shop next to the bank. i got to go into that apartment for the first time just to see my first home, now its all a memory for that apartment will be gone. when i saw how it looked i wanted to cry. the most important my family is safe. GOD BLESS ELMWOOD
So glad that no one was hurt. Such a shame that the downtown was hit so badly. I hope they will be able to rebuild. I'll miss going to the little theater.
still cant believe that this happened but im glad there were no casualties. our town will never be the same but we will get through this one step at a time.
The so called Val Halen 'music' still sucks. Swing and a miss.I went and saw 3 other vids and no screaming crappy music. Glad somebody out thee just wants to show the video.
