my wife & i have seen sleepy 3 times in jacksonville fla. he put on a awsome show. bought 4 cds from him. my 16 yr old son likes the cds. his kid lives here and she came on stage & sang will the circule be unbroken with him. she almost as tall as him.
@rorygg1 You're so right,Rory. He does plenty of blues,New Orleans/LA music,swing,50s R&B,etc. etc Such a vast amount of material ! A true legend. I saw him again 2 years ago in Chicago ,he was in the middle of his 3rd set when I had to leave, and he was still going strong. 75 years old? Amazing.
how can anyone like rap or hiphop when they hear this? the record industries only want to support freaks these days. Rarely will there be someone as great and still rocking with big personality and talent. Look at that audience. Sleepy knows how to rock the house.
back in the 80's a guy i knew had a record label called ozark sounds and he bought fellas over from the states to the uk to play a few dates now and then, sleepy being one of them. we drove him down from london to brighton for a gig and on the way stopped off in pease pottage for a drink...it was a real buzz walking into an english pub with the long tall texan, boots, hat n all...blew a lotta peoples minds! and yeh, what a great guy! real good to hear he's still on top form!
It was a blessing when his RV broke down at "Allen's 5th Wheel", a trucker's joint on US One in Amesbury, MA. He's been in Greater Boston ever since, at The Blue Star Bar in Malden and the few C&W venues in New England. In person, he's the nicest gentleman you ever met. Make a pilgrimage to see him while you still can, he's over 70!
When I lived in Boston, my friends and I would make the annual pilgrimage to the Hatch Shell by the Charles River and shout out "Where's the Beef??" until the big man came on stage. He is Fabulous and if you get a chance to see him in person, you will be very happy you did.
He's very cool - great stage presence!
