I currently don't have residency of the United States... I live in California... Is there any chance I can at least train at the navy swimmers recue???? I am 20, current college student, phisique 5'7 165 pounds
Good swimmer and runner....
Don't reply unless you have correct information--- I don't have time for bull____
@Hector3158 um best guess, ask to train with your college swim team, thats the level you need to be at to be a rescue swimmer, otherwise talk with a recruiter, some are ASW, if your serious and ready, talk to them, they usually start giving you a workout
@Hector3158 I don't know all the details but I have a friend joining with me who isn't a US citizen, I hear once you finish basic you are officially a citizen of the United States.
I was devestated and depressed when they told me I couldn't be an Air Rescue Swimmer... something I dreamed of and went at for years. I couldn't because of my eyesight not be at least near perfect, and I have to wait around 4 years to get lasik eye surgery before ever thinking about doing it, but I am in the Navy nonetheless as an EM which is alright but not my dream, but when I get Lasik you bet i'm transferring jobs. Just proof that you need to start somewhere to aim high sometimes. HOOYAH
@Manbeast222 Hey, life isn't over if you don't ge the job you want. I served in the Navy as a reservist during Viet Nam, stateside. After my active duty, I did a year as a weekend end warrior. I was a Hospital Corpsman. After that year I decided to go regular Navy as a Corpsman. The Navy said no as the war had ended. What to do? Was told I could come in as a non-rate on a Carrier. For me that "Sucked". Instead transfered to the Coast Guard were I had more choices available.
@br1ankim24 I was a Navy CSAR Swimmer and cannot answer for the Coasties but I understand their training is as rigorous as Navy Rescue Swimmer School. No one in the Navy SAR community will dismiss their capabilities. The main difference is Navy is DoD and the Coasties are DHS
@bryanrobertson Than You for your unbiased comments. Often here on Youtube I see comments of one service bashing another because the job isn't done quite the same way. While I wasn't a Rescue Swimmer during my 20 yrs. of military service I came to know some. I served both in the Navy & the Coast Guard. In the Navy I was a Hospital Corpsman. In the Coast Guard a Storekeeper. 3 of my duty stations in the CG were at Air stations that performed SAR & Drug interdiction.
if you want to see what it takes to be a Coastguard rescueswimmer check out my page follow me on my JOURNEY!! I was class 0802 in pensacola 2007 im in us coastguard now in the swimmer program documenting my training check it out!
This is probabily a biased advertisement for increased navy enrolement, however it really has motivated me to pherhaps enlist in something like this one day, there couldn't be a better job helping people live.
Disagree. I'm a firefighter, we have a saying, "Risk a little to save a little, risk a lot to save a lot" - I know what it means to have discretion and have no doubt the Navy is just as intelligent. However, he meant what he said. His head shake was one of enthusiasm, not lying. Look at body english, not just visual cues to lies.
@deltaecho1 I know they guy who you say was lying, and I want you to know that I know he has put his own life on the line to pull pilots out of the water. There's not one rescue swimmer in the navy that wouldn't do what they have to to make sure that someone else gets to see their family again, myself included.
@JRodriguez5364 I'm going to withdraw my initial comment. I meant no disrespect. The training of rescue swimmers is extremely demanding and I'm sure that has crossed every candidate's mind daily. Take care.
This video is so heavily steeped in "Oh how great it is to be an American." You people really are full of yourselves...This is simply rubbish. It glamourises the so called "do gooder "soilders...This is kool aid for the almost right swaying patriotic democrats out there...That's all, not hing more, nothing less...
@joseph299 yeah guess the USCG never gets shot at while seizing drugs coming into the country. When was the last time you ever heard of the navy doing CSAR? Vietnam?
@joseph299 Uhh....do some research.USCG is overseas in all wars. They were in the Gulf .One was killed preventing insurgents from blowing up an Oil terminal. In Viet Nam of the 34,000 total personnel in the service approximately 1,000 were in Viet Nam.On cutters doing Fire Support Missions, cutters doing riverine patrols-with several shot-up with KIAs and wounded, and helo rescues. In fact a USCG pilot who was shot down in Laos just had his remains returned from there. I am 60% from my USCG service
I must say....the Navy is very versatile. They're ordered to shoot people and then save people too!!! Very nice!! GO COAST GUARD! --AST-- BUT..........these guys DO have the best job in the navy and are Just as much rescuers as real ASTs. nontheless........COAST GUARD
I agree with every person in this video, especially AWR1 Brandon at the end. I have the best job in the Navy, hands down. My job is to save your ass, and there is no greater feeling in the world than knowing that this is what I was put on this earth for
@12GaugeLosAngeles everybody on this planet need ppl like this... and if one day your are the guy they are trained to save iam sure you would never say what u commented on this video again
