I think I was thinking of a series called the ghosts of motley hall, although I don't think jimmy edwards was in that. It may be that I saw ghost of a chance when I was small and got the two mixed up
I have vague memories of a family tv show in the early to mid 70's which was about a group of ghosts in a big mansion. I think one of them was played by jimmy edwards. Does anyone remember this series, and if so could you tell me the title? thanks
@mriys There was a film called Ghost of a chance with Edwards and that was about children trying to save a mansion with the help of some ghosts headed by Edwards. Are you thinking of that?
@grafun2 - the Ghosts of Motley Hall was indeed a 1970s Granada kids prog, but the jester was played by Arthur English - also the caretaker in Grace Bros Department store (are you being served?)...
Just passed his 90th birthdate, what a character, once seen never forgotten, I saw him in Big Bad Mouse, with Eric Sykes, barracked from the audience by Spike Milligan. (who did this regularly!), outrageous adlibs ensued. The audience simply refused to leave the theatre!!!!!
Superb - been wanting to see this again!! Probably since 1966!!! Always think that anyone that can mess about with an instrument is usually an accomplished player - which Jimmy proves! The beer joke was the only reason for the xylophone! So quick witted and funny! Hounded for his lifestyle. (BTW Vladamir Kuts was still alive when he made that joke.) Anyone who was a member of the guinea-pig club has my respect, let alone his DFC.
Jimmy always made me laugh as a kid in the 1950's .Now I'm 63 he still makes me laugh and now my kids too who are 16,13 and 9 years old here in Thailand.
An excellent demonstration if this man's master of comedy techniques, and ability to make us laugh. And all the more impressive because he suffered serious facial burns during WW2, and was forced to hide his sexual orientation all his life.
Just finished the Frank Muir autobiography - wonderful, he wrote Whacko with Dennis Norden and was a frind of Jimmy Edwards, some great stories there.
This is truly priceless! Comics today just do not measure up to the old guys who could make us laff our asses off with out resorting to 4 letter words.
He was great on Take It From Here, as Ron Glum's dad. Check out the show on the BBC-7 site (the Glums segment starts about halfway in). My only complaint with Mr. Edwards is that he was a supporter of the Conservative Party -- though that fits with his "Pa Glum" character.

I remember Arthur English. However; I was so saddened to hear about Trevor's early demise.
