The problem with proclaiming the best player is that it's a subjective business. A fanboy will always feel insulted if his idol was not listed nor recognised. It's is a silly business to even claim how was the best player, since every player has got his own style and qualities. However, to my taste and opinion, Laudrup (finest playmaker I have seen) and Romario (most lethal striker I have seen) are both the most underrated players in history, and so are Baggio, Rivaldo, Cruyff, Maldini.
