@Mrnissanleaf it's just a reversed "rack and pinion" mechanism (en wikipedia org/wiki/Rack_and_pinion). It is normally used to convert rotational motion into linear motion, so here it is "reversed". The trick is placing a fixed rack at the end of the track and attaching a cog on the train: as the train stops, the cog gains enough rotation speed to open the door...
@gi4c0ph i created a different system.i have 2 studs sticking out of the wall. 1 on the door, one on the wall of the train cart one of the studs is lower so the door opens when it hits a pole. im currently creating a video response. im not stealing your idea, i just came up with a different idea
@Mrnissanleaf no problem, I didn't invent that system myself, so there would be no plagiarism in adopting the same solution :) I'm now curious to watch your vid, though
@gi4c0ph welli got the same hamster lik you imean collor and i want to make something like a maze lego city but i faild he falls off the table and then iput him backbut hes always take the other side that iwant ow btw whats hes name?
@pkez500 OMG, you put him on a table?? Please, DON'T!! That could severely hurt him if he falls down, and cause paralysis or even kill him! You should be more careful about your hammie: he's not a toy, rather a living being
@gaxiolab93 indeed, he was rather smart (for a hamster): just showing him the path a couple of times was enough for him to learn how to use the train :)
hey,i made a train car for my hamster out of lego's.i just added the hook with glue and the weels fit perfect and my hamster just went in the door.problem is,he never goes in his specialized door so i gotta put him in.he always just wanders around.after hes in though he just sticks his head out like a dog.ah,good times.
@Dylantricky1 you shouldn't force your hamster to do anything he does not want to do. An animal is neither a toy nor a cartoon... rather, he's a living being and must be treated accordingly.
The main reason why I built up that railway is to solve a very practical issue: I wanted to let my hamster free to leave his cage, and still prevent him to jump from the top and fall down, as he tended to do at the beginning.
As a matter of fact, I'm not encouraging anyone else to do the same just for fun...
@gi4c0ph no,you don't understand,he just seems to be unable to find the door.he kinda goes around it looking like "how do i get in?" after he`s in he loves to go around in it.one time he was actually trying to stay in.i thought people would take the other comment wrong,i would never force my hamster in something he wouldnt want to be in.
@Dylantricky1 I'm afraid I can't be much helpful to you, as I don't know how your cart is made and whether you built any pathway that would lead the hammie in.
@gi4c0ph i am afraid i did not build a pathway for him.i didn't have enough lego parts to build anything after the train car.my cart just had three simple lego wheels on each side of the cat.the floor was a simple large square lego tile that gave my hamster enough room to be comfortable, yet not so he could move around too much during the trains motion.the walls were strongly built together lego bricks that made four walls perfectly, and the roof was of thick,no top attach Squares.all very sturdy
@Dylantricky1 just a little advice: even more important than "sturdy" is "steady". Further, make sure your hammie doesn't feel entrapped in the cart: mine had no roof, yet with walls high enough to prevent him from climbing out
I guess most of the bricks I used are now out of production, as they come from some VERY old (say > 20 years!) lego kits...
Perhaps I should take the time to write down some general guidelines that could be applied to anything you'd commonly find at present days, but I'm really too busy at the moment...
oh, the music, sure. Indeed, my idea was to replace it with a funny soundtrack full of cool cartoon-like effects... but I really have no time to deal with it so far :(
about making it bigger: did you try with "watch in high quality"? I'm afraid I can't enlarge it more than that
thank you... I appreciate your enthusiasm about it, though I'm aware most people would look at it as the kind of nerdish things made by a college student, when he fails to find any better way to waste his time...

rabidbunnies4u 7 months ago
@rabidbunnies4u no, as stability was one of the main requirements. There is also a speed limiter which prevents the train from tilting during turns

gi4c0ph 2 years ago
I don't remember, it was nearly 10 years ago... I had to refine it, as early versions did not meet all safety requirements
gi4c0ph 2 years ago
well, you can freely do it, if you take care of the hammie's safety (as *he's not* part of the toy).
