Hey Tobias, I was 16 when I finally left home. However, I did it when being Gay was not even mentioned. There were no networks then, but I refused to pretend, and rather put my energy into being positive and understanding. I remain ostracized by my blood, but now I have families everywhere. Love to you fair and wise young friend. You will shine ever more brighter. Meeting you has enhanced my day. I wish I could write more thoroughly, but this little box limits responses to a ridiculous degree.
ooh ooh if they said hate than they are going to hell!!
cause the say if you hate anybody than you hate god, and go to hell!!!
so they screw themselves. And beside that. they commit a big sin. they say you have to act like jesus in a sense be the kind of person he was like he loves everyone no matter who they are. i mean he ate with sinner for crying out loud. your family are nothing but proud hypocrites and jerks.
Oh, boy! That was surely a moving story! Your words really moved me and made me wonder how cruel people can be sometimes. I don't mean to be judgmental, I'm just speaking of love and fairness. Your story certainly has brought such feelings: about life, about family, and about finding out about oneself. You should continue telling stories and eventually, writing them down. A book of stories would be very nice for a start. Think about it. Thanks!
You are incredibly strong as a person and should be VERY proud of yourself ^__^. Your story was truly inspirational and I wish you all the best in your future ^__^!!!!
Truly inspirational. I had the chance of having an issue-free, accepting coming out from all my friends and family. I'm so glad you've blossomed into who you are today!
Your story is incredible. You have been so brave and even though I don't really know you, I am so proud! What an inspiration, not only to the LGBT community, but to anyone in general. Everyone is ultimately in control of their destiny and you are proof!
that's a great story! its amazing how tough times truly can make you stronger, and its only the people who go through that, that understand the want for more. i think you are doing a great thing and even though i am not gay, i think its a great, wonderful thing that you are doing. and i hope at some point your parents find that they were wrong. and love YOU for you.
i loved that story! you are such a strong person and you have inspired me to take control of my life and enjoy living it! by the way, just wondering, but have you heard anything from your family since they disowned you? i hope that in the future they can see what a wonderful person you are! YOU have a great day!
You are absolutely AMAZING. Pride wells up in me for you. Imagine the entire LGBT community and more giving you a Great Big Hug for as long as you are on this planet.
You are such an intellegent person. It's amazing that you've made your life work out the way you have, and I think you're an inspiration to people to never lose faith in yourself. So well done. Hugs
I am in awe. You made me cry. Not just for you, but also for all gays in the same situation. Your strength has given me strength. You are truly an inspiration.
I find it pretty amazing that after all you've been through you still turned out awesome :) Your family lost a pretty amazing son/ brother.. Just remember to keep your head up :) and remember what doesnt break us makes us stronger!
i just want to say HA to your stupid "family", you're doing fine without them. man you've been in a really tough situation. dude if your religion made you stop loving your kids then isn't your religion evil? becuase love is the most important thing in the world.
Im a gay guy, im 15 and yet to tell my family... but i have told my friends and they are pleased for me.
i cant believe what u had to go through, but you still pulled it off and made it in the end. You are such an inspirational person, your quite good looking too with a great personality. i bet u have lots of friends..
i was thrown out at 14 old enough to do odd jobs and make money etc. and i was lucky I ended up in a military school. i wouldnt have made it if i was 12.
Is it legal in the USA for parents to do this? Thousands of gay teenagers are apparently still living on the streets in America. I know the USA is almost the only nation not to sign the UN Declaration on Children's Rights, but surely there are some laws to stop this. In Europe I think the parents would end up in prison and the rest of the family in Community Care if they did this.
Your story has reached me in the UK and I'm glad it did. I was in my 30s before I came out, having spent most of my life in denial, so I think it is admirable of you to have come out at the age of 12. That shows a great deal of assurance and confidence in your character which I admire. That strength of character will hopefully take you through the rest of your life with your head held high.
My story is on YouTube - Coming Out at 30. It's not quite as epic as yours!
I'm tearey eyed over watching this. I'm glad you posted it. Don't judge me but I was tired of seeing all the 'omg i was so nervous but everyone loved me so it was ok' coming out stories because mine too wasn't all roses and dancing sun flowers.
you'd be playing the homeless gay boy who gets adopted by aright wing politician, or foster home not quite sure of the details yet I'll let you know more as I find out I think you'd be quite inspirational, not that you haven't been inspirational already
I had followed your story to Chris Durant, who is involved in the same project as I am theshowsogay it's on youtube first 2 chapters are done he's sort of interested in having you out here for a movie we have a storyline you'd fit into i think it's about a homeless gay kid who winds up in a house/family that belongs to a consevative gov't person
You mentioned a spiritual level you went through all that stuff for a reason...you're here to spread the message to other gay kids help them along/.//I'll share my story with you if you're interested..Thanks for being here
Wow amazing. I thought my life is tough, but wow thanks for the reality check. You are amazing and wow. Just wow. Gosh I teared up a bit during certain parts. Amazing I really hope more people get to here this story because it is truly inspirational and ya. Wondering did your parents get in trouble or anything are you still talking to them? But ya wow. Thank you so much for sharing this story.
Omg... i almost cried when i heard about ur whole family telling u how much they hate u. I am happy u are ok with that and ur being really good about it. I couldnt live with that one bit. Im not gay but i think ur a really awsome person.
I have watched this video 5 times today. It is amazing and the music is perfect. Is it Irish? I made this note book that sort of says the same thing. On the cover is an abandoned falling down farm house with some starving cows eating weeds in hard dirt. On the back some pics of gorgeous happy guys. and snaked in them is the phrase, "It's not where you start, its where you finish." I will try to get someone to take a picture of it to send to you. You make me stronger and more confident.
Mike you are a very strong soul and I have nothing but the highest sorrow for you, I also feel sort of guilty that when I came out I was totally accepted by everyone I knew. But dont ever give up mike no matter how bad things were, your life is only improving and only getting better.
Mike! It's me Katie, I have to say that this was a very inspiring video. I'm not gay but still to see everything you have gone through is an inspiration for anyone. I don't know how your family couldn't love you, your such a wonderful person. I know what it is like to be homeless, maybe not quite to your extent but homeless still, it isn't fun. Love you I am so excited about BMB this year it is going to rock!!!
I'm frequently amazed by how foster kids spring back and thrive in spite of all their setbacks and suffering. You are a marvelously strong and brave young man. I'm sorry I put off watching this for a couple of days, I think it's very important.
Thanks so much for sharing your inspiring story. I really can't understand how a family can do what they did to their own son. You have done so well and I wish you the best. I am happy that you are telling your story to others who may be going through the same type of thing. Love ya!!!!!!
OMG. I have watched lots of coming out videos but this one is the most shocking I have ever seen. So this is what 'Christians' do to 'defend family values'! I am lost for words. If you feel able to do it, your help could be very valuable to other young LGBTs who have had this type of experience. Thank you for sharing this.
Umm my family wasn't 'Christians'. sorry a different religion. I didn't want to say the religion because, It's my own personal experience with MY Family's religion. They are NOT The "Cover" for all of their religion. I just didn't want to start a whole lot of arguing and or unnecessary Discussion. But Thank you, and you all for the positive feedback! You guys are great! Make sure to comment and rate! And Subscribe! Favorite the video, get the word out! You guys are awesome!
Mike (or Toby I should say), you are truly a strong and admirable person. You have been through so many horrible things yet you are such a positive person and you are amazing to keep pushing through life. I wish you the best of luck in Oregon and have fun =]
Hey Mike! It's Greta, your soon to be all-star sister. :) I love you. I look at all the amazing things you are about to do (and that we're about to do together) and it reminds me that as annoying as it was to hear people say "everything happens for a reason", everything really does happen for a reason. Love.
that was very inspiring! you really are awesome... you've been given a very special gift and you are definitely using it well... thank you for this video
VERY impressive. Despite the effects it would have on your siblings, your parents should have prosecuted for child abandonment, but I bet that didn't happen.
Hang in there. You appear to have a lot of character and are building a better world for yourself.
I thank you kindly for putting yourself forth, I don't think I could be half so courageous. The part concerning your family definitely made me tear up (maybe Loreena McKennitt didn't help hehe, I lover her music). However, I do find myself inspired on many fronts, and as SpeedyBruin said, very admirable. Thank you! =)
Hey, I love you and thats great and you're family accepts you because it's me and my mom and don't forget that! I will miss you this summer sooooo much I might cry. :-)
My God;Wow. I knew you were from a foster home and that you had been abandoned by your family, but this is horrific. That you are even sane is great but that you are a greater young man is a miriacle. Will post as a favorite
