Plenty of variants out there and it is sad that the military has phased out the pig in favor of the 240. But the 240 has less problems and whichever weapon is better in field is the weapon i prefer to use.
@elonaman117 I hear they're also starting to phase the SAW's out in favor of the M27. There's supposed to be one SAW per squad or something ridiculous and they can only use the SAW's if given permission from the Battalion commander, I believe.
The marine corps will still use the m249 and the m240g but the M27 will be used to replace around 2,000 of the aging 249's in service. Approximately 8,000-10,000 M249s will remain in service at the company level to be used at the discretion of company commanders. What that means is that everyone has a loadout which is determined by the mission req's.
This does not factor in the fact that we use the M240golf as well.
