I am all about trying new techniques but let the results be your guide. Realistically you would be driving an engine on an already congested and busy scene. You are also left with a mess once the door and ceiling come crashing down. Imagine dragging a line through that mess, or trying to run through it if things go bad inside. Personally, I will stick with the more efficient, clean, and controlled irons and circular saw.
what a fucking mess of a training excercise. No big deal, just comprimise the integerity of the entire structure while pulling with the engine. Safety officer should be shitting himself right now.
A cutting torch might be a bit more efficient unless the building is for sure a complete loss. That way the building isnt left without a front wall haha.
@quadkid4 Really? Are you serious? That was providing no structural support at all. Do you know what's providing the structural support? The massive pillars, not the couple of inches thick steel door frame. I don't have to be an architect or an engineer to clearly see that.
You guys kill me. You practice what you can when you have the opportunity (i.e. a donated building that's slated for demolition). If you had civilians or FFs trapped, this would be an outstanding method of quickly pulling what are obviously fortified door gates. Many big cities that don't have the dough to supply rotary saws to every engine company make it SOP to pull window bars off buildings in an identical fashion.
I love the critic every half-wit becomes when watching someone else's vid.
Absolutely amateur. Forcible entry is an art to be mastered, this video should serve as an example of what not to do. Go dust off your tools and train with them.
I like it, it was amusing to watch. However, if anyone on my department tried to pull a stunt like that without a damn good reason, he'd be fired... Anyone know what the reason behind this was?
wow, you do a realize a k12 could have torn through the chains right? even a pair of bolt cutters... SO much unnecessary damage...remember: Preservation of life, property, and the environment.... Big emphasis on PROPERTY... Go be a cop
Saw would have been quicker than having to move all of the debris after tearing off the front of the building, lots of crap in the way for ingress and egress and hoseline placement. This method jacks up apparatus placement among many other issues, rank amateur at best. I'm guessing volunteer department.
You compromised the structure, and just caused the possibility of collapse depending on what comes out along with the door frame. . not safe at all.. Seemed to take too long. Those doors would of popped with a set of Irons or a saw.
@deliverer777 LOL gee ya dont say... so lets ad some more danger to the situation.. good video of what not to do and must be made by some Boored Vollys with too much time on their hands. :)

As a drill for "thinking outside the box" it might be of some use. As far as actually using it on on incident, it would be waaaay down in the toolbox.
yea, but if you can't get in to put out the fire, your not conserving any property are you?... i'm sure the owner will care very little if he has to replace a door instead of his entire business.
This video is taken out of context. This was a forcible entry video and part of the video at the end was stuff being destroyed for fun. This was part of that. No parapet to collapse, saws were already demonstrated,..etc.
That was a ridiculous method of entry as the previous posters have identified, there is so much that can go wrong here and leave with a lot of problems later on.
Additionally, if there is a developing fire in here you have created a massive opening without any way of controlling it.
That has to be the worse idea i've ever seen. Your left with all that mess infront of the door impeding entry/escape and now you've created a collapse hazard. Plus if fire/ high heat is coming out the front door you wont be able to get that chain in and around. It probably looked good on paper.
its small chain.. habor frieght wire snips anyone?

Doesn't matter how you do it, the job is done, and its safe. If it works and serves the purpose why bitch?

great you gained entry now you have to deal with the structural compromise due to the fact that you ripped the front wall clean out of the building

@1:04 a saw would be more time consuming?? For opening the door or killing the front frame? Grab the K12

stupid method. not less destructive than using bombs.

Guess who's got to pay for the door!!! That was not a very good method. Creative, but not efficient.
bigboom60 2 years ago
I think i would just use a K12
FFWilliam1 2 years ago
yeah, i think that would make the most sense. not a lot of metal in there. 1 minute per door and you've got it.
and the entire frame isn't shot, too.
ATFDFF 2 years ago
And now they have to either clear that mess or climb over it. Not a very good method.
rangrbob99 2 years ago
I suspect they didn't estimate that half the building would come with the door frame. LOL However, in a mayday situation this may be of some use.

that is NOT good forcible entry, unless they double as a demolition company. total waste of personal and needless destruction
PCnever 2 years ago 2
Doors and/or their frames are not load bearing, therefor, no structural integrity was comprimised.
