My class were shown this two years ago, on the 8th grade, we were 13 years old, all these babies suffering and watching one of them die in the movie, changed us. This footage is from a documentary, "The Dying Rooms", filmed by people that snuck cameras into China back in the '90's. Much has changed now. At this point China is slowing the adoptions of baby girls because there are not enough females for the males coming of age to marry. China is a very old culture, the fact they remain intact speaks volumes. The entire world needs to practice birth control which is difficult when most of of are born with a desire to have children. everyone knows china has a MAJOR overpopulation problem. the problem isnt the one child policy made by the government. the problem is the old, traditional way of thinking. the thinking that a son is more valuable then a daughter. daughters dont carry down a name, sons do. dont blame the country for trying to take control of their incredible over population, blame the lack of education and the traditional way of thinking. all asians will agree with me, in asian culture, boys are always favored.

yes it is very very sad. and there is, yet, a very terrifying video of a team who got to one of the "dying rooms" as they call to those rooms the kids are putted there and, oh well; they filmed a little girl in a room, left to die; they were told they were just waiting for her to die. There was yet, a very easy way to save the little girl if they had seen it with time and she was just all dirty and dying with hunger.. one week later, they told there was no little girl for there for years..
and the little girl had just died days before; but they just "killed" her leaving her alone and said that room was closed for a very big period of time. that is so sick!!

100, 000 baby girls per year in China are unwanted.

The good thing is that these beautiful baby girls are treated like little empresses here in America (and other countries). While many in this vid are probably gone (there are reports some were killed) those born a few years after have gone on to happy lives. It is not for us (in America) to judge a culture that is over 4,000 years old. Will we last that long? How many cultures have lasted that long? I have 1 child. It wasdifficult not to have more when a heart wants more.

This footage is from a documentary, "The Dying Rooms", filmed by people that snuck cameras into China back in the '90's. Much has changed now. At this point China is slowing the adoptions of baby girls because there are not enough females for the males coming of age to marry. China is a very old culture, the fact they remain intact speaks volumes. The entire world needs to practice birth control which is difficult when most of of are born with a desire to have children. It is a mindset

@Herb615 Hello so you want the Chinese to start opening their legs and have 10 kids like the Indians and the Africans. Your not looking at the big picture. China must maintain it's one child policy so matter what the cost. If people were allowed to have as many kids as they wanted the whole country would starve. Then you would see suffering on a mass scale. The whole country would collapse. The Chinese are highly intelligent. They knew what the costs would be and they knew the rewards.

@PorkChopMissPiggy whats the point on having a 1 child policy if the parents are just going to have children until they get a boy, they don't want girls because when they grow they'll go to their husband's house and no1 will be there to care for her parents.

How you look at China now is much more different today than it was 10 years ago. There are always constant "change" going on when China becomes more developed then having more than one child is of less worry. China is still a developing country and has made significant progress within 30 years.

It's more than the law. It's the mindset of the people living in a patriarchal society, who obviously then see more value in having a male child as opposed to having a baby girl in a society where men are worth more than women.
What can we do? Well, changing the law might help, but it's not going to stop poor people subjecting their baby girls to things because they can only raise one child that they want to be male.
Changing the mindset's infinitely more crucial than blaming the government.

Changing ppl's mindset means more fundamental changes in society in terms of production and participation of women at social labour as a whole. The revolution did provide greater gender equality in China compared to many others such as India, Japan, Thailand, etc, but the market ecomony makes things worse for women. Also China will need better retirement fund policies so old ppl not always need male child.

everyone knows china has a MAJOR overpopulation problem. the problem isnt the one child policy made by the government. the problem is the old, traditional way of thinking. the thinking that a son is more valuable then a daughter. daughters dont carry down a name, sons do. dont blame the country for trying to take control of their incredible over population, blame the lack of education and the traditional way of thinking. all asians will agree with me, in asian culture, boys are always favored.

ADOPT A CHILD!!!! It's so sad that there are so many children born to this world, and then get thrown away like trash. I think the parents should be prisoned for life...
I plan to adoped childern in the future. And I try to spread the word about the importance of adoption to as many people as I can. Those poor kids deserve a better life

@lexaeus88 this was a true documentary from 1995. things changed, of course. But as they say, not much has changed, I mean, the policy is still the same which means Baby Girls arent all accepted in the society and they go to this "orphanages" when they have parents who love them but cant keep them because one country's stupid law. :(

only the really poor part of china, people are still feeling the importance of boy over girl..

Having too many kids is not a natural right and and it never has been nor will it ever will be a "Natural" right and if you think it is you are sadly mistaken this is not only about food distribution but about poverty and unemployment.
You should know that by having too many kids you are in some ways ruining someone else kids future.
People are so stupid when in reality there is no such thing as a god given right but only those given to you by society for the better of everyone...

Having kids is a natural right. God never said how many kids a woman can have so it's up to the parents. I might agree with you that having families with much children might make poverty and unployment problems in the future, but its not by killing the Baby Girls that will help. There are many people wanting to adopt kids and sometimes it takes years and years to get it, and across the world there are social asisstants killing kids. this is NOT fair at all! those kids never hurt anyone!

dying room is the expression they use for this rooms; instead of putting the children in orphanages, they put the majority of the little girls in this "dying rooms" where, as the name says, they're just left to die. Its so horrible and frightning but that's the true, and we have to chance it.. the once child policy has taken many innocent lifes and we have the power to stop this..

yes it is very very sad. and there is, yet, a very terrifying video of a team who got to one of the "dying rooms" as they call to those rooms the kids are putted there and, oh well; they filmed a little girl in a room, left to die; they were told they were just waiting for her to die. There was yet, a very easy way to save the little girl if they had seen it with time and she was just all dirty and dying with hunger.. one week later, they told there was no little girl for there for years..

Many people say there's no dying rooms. Our Geografy teacher shew us a movie "Dying rooms" and yes, most of Chinise Baby Girls, when they arent the only child go to there. have you ever seen that real film? you should.
