Sick. Back in the days when graphics weren't as important as the gameplay, and from an art background it has a STYLE that makes it stand out from anything else. Btw, when Kefka's theme came on I did the devil horns in the air.

I'm 23 years old and I just started with the FF series at the beginning of this year (played I, IIj, IIIj, IV, V and VI so far) and I can honestly tell you that I enjoyed each of this games so much more than for example Modern Warfare 2. Many games had good story, rather challenging gameplay and excellent music back then, things that most modern games brutally disregard in favor of graphics, graphics and even more graphics...

@bla287 Wow. OK. I think games now are better than ever though. Gameplay used to be all you had but... graphics got better, and some people got way to serious about graphics some time after the SNES/Genesis era, and there's been the graphics vs gameplay battle you know about raging since then. The graphics people just won way too many battles. The gameplay people make great games that simply weren't possible back in the 80s and 90s. They can make completely new kinds of games even.

@BologneyT Yeah sure, of course excellent games with new and innovative gameplay are also made nowadays, but there are a bit harder to find IMO and not on the top lists. It's just that the focus has shifted from gameplay to gfx a bit too much in my opinion. (though bad graphics can of course ruin a game too for me!)

But anyway, I just wanted to say that you can still enjoy those older classics even if you played them for the first time in this age, that was the case for me at least.

@bla287 You educated me. I thought people would enjoy old games even if they were playing them for the first time recently, but not more than newer games. Now I agree with everyone else that graphics get too much of the focus nowadays. Bad graphics are unacceptable, but bad gameplay is excusable. That's messed up. You couldn't get away with that back in the day cause gameplay fun was all you had. That's why so many old games were so good (& why some were so bad! Nothing good, not even graphics!)

@BologneyT Oh, thanks for the input! I think it's kind of the same as it is with old music vs. new music. Many people think that old music is better, the reason for that is simple: There was bad and good music back then and there is bad and good music now. But while the good old music is even played nowadays and the bad one has been forgotten about, both good and bad modern music is being played now, so modern stuff is considered worse on the average, but that's just my theory (same with movies)

@bla287 Just think of some of the horrible 80s/90s stuff for example if you still remember it. Examples for really bad old games: the first Metal Gear for NES (look at the great AVGN review: watch?v=bHyTzPtEAhk), E.T. for Atari, the CD-I Zelda titles and many more, but rightfully they are ignored nowadays/weren't continued etc.

@bla287 AVGN sure lets you know what was bad, but unfortunately, I found out how bad E.T. was on my own when I played it around (give or take a year) 1987. Ugh. Good thing I was only six, so I just dropped it and found something else to play. I saw an ad in like 1990 in the advertising that came with the newspaper about the cdi Zelda, then I never heard of it again... Thanks to The Nerd I know why. I didn't find out about the real bad games of the 80s during the 80s or 90s at all. Funny.

ff4-ff6 is from super family com.. someone made a family com version of it.. the graphics should be 16bit but they used sprites from the 8bit final fantasy
