  • Hey Doug, in general, do a lot of heavy metal musicians have bad attitudes? I know back in the 80's a lot of rockstars were like that. I'll name a few - Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Nikki Sixx and Dave Mustaine.

  • Hey Doug do you have to be a prodigy in order to be a good guitarist. Or does it take a lot of practice. Examples of prodigies are Yngwie Malmsteen, Randy Rhoads, Reb Beach, and Eddie Van Halen. I started learning the guitar when I was 15 on a nylon string classical and moved on to an electric and had some formal lessons. After that I started to learn from tab off of guitar magazines and then started to learn by ear. I then ordered your lessons in 1990 which were made in 1988.

  • Hey Doug are you familiar with a band called Honeymoon Suite? They are from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Their lead guitarist is Derry Grehan.

  • @Shawn72Chu I've heard the name but not familiar with the band. I'll check 'em out.

  • Hey Doug do you like Liona Boyd or Randy Rhoads?

  • @Shawn72Chu I'm not familiar with Liona Boyd. I really like Randy Rhoads and have been influenced by his style.

  • thanks for all the good lessons Doug. i was a kid when i started with metal method. been a very long time but you helped me get it straight. cheers brother!!

  • @Johnjthomason You're welcome. Always great to hear from my 80's students.

  • I have my uncle daves old HAWK sleevless shirt from back when he did the vocals for them :)

  • anyone has the lyrics to this song

  • Hey Doug do you like the playing of John Norum or Kee Marcello?.....I really like John Norum's tone and his very fluid solos off the first Europe CD and his Total Control CD.

  • Hey Doug the first electric guitar that I bought was a cheapy Ibanez EX 360 for $600. My brother had a friend who went out and bought a $1400 Ibanez Jem when he started out. Would you recommend a beginner to buy an expensive one when starting out?

  • @Shawn72Chu That's a great question. If you really believe that you're dedicated and will continue to be motivated to learn how to play guitar - go for the expensive instrument. If you're not sure, ask an accomplished local guitarist to help you find a good used instrument. You can probably find a great guitar for under $200. Once you've learned to play you can still sell it for $200.

  • YA! The original Metal Method axe!

  • I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I just read about Let The Metal Live a few minutes ago. I read that it was released back in 2009.

  • Hey, Doug.

I'm making the difficult decision of purchasing my first Carvin amplifier.

Do you prefer those old 100 watts, or the new Legacy amps?

  • Doug which hairspray did you prefer?

  • @kickalion Industrial strength Aqua-net. It will make your hair so hard it could shatter.

  • @kickalion where can i find this cd it is awesome. hair metal most talented musicians. hair metal forever this guys vocals rule

  • I might order this cd tomorrow

  • I'm watching you "cock the shotgun" in your leads doug.. Thinkin your lessons teach that..cool to see the Hawk

  • Love cheezy 80's choreographry

  • Great song! In 1985, with some promo...this would have been a hit! Still sounds good by today's standards. Thank you for uploading.

  • Hey Doug do you like JOURNEY? Is Neal Schon one of your favourite guitarists?

  • @Shawn72Chu I like Journey and respect and enjoy Neal Schon's playing but he's never been a favorite of mine.

  • Charles stole my white boots, prick

  • Great Band, Awesome look , They Rock, Nice Ballad also.

  • November 15, 1985. I went to work at a nearby supermarket, then to a football play-off game that day.

  • great sounding video!

  • i love the big 80's hair its so sick how do you get your hair like that and how long does it take? just wondering.

  • I remember seeing the OG Hawk line up a few times back when I was in high school!! What a great time, those were the days!! I still have the full page ads from Bam Magazine. I followed Charles when he went on to play as Morrill I think his brother was in the band as well? I remember partying with them after a show they played at the Dancing Waters in San Pedro! The early HAWK I thought for sure would get a decent record deal and be around for awhile!!! I still have this demo some place??

  • doug i like ur solo u did. u improvise that whole thing? sounds really mysterious and heartfelt.

  • @EvaSlash Thanks. It was heartfelt, that's for sure. It's kind of difficult describing my approach. I'll try. All of the solos started out as completely improvised. As time passed, some of the slow melodic parts were repeated. A lot of the fast stuff is just me "going for it" but even some of that stuff ended up having some structure. None of it was memorized in a note-for-note kind of way.

  • @moooware Hi Sean. That's been awhile. I remember giving lessons to a Sean back then. Actually that would have been in '81 or '82. I started Metal Method in 1982 and that was the end of private lessons. Great hearing from you. You can contact me through MetalMethod (dot) com

  • I use to go watch hawk and black knight play the clubs in hollywood and san pedro back in the 80s i would love to find the cd's now day..any clues to how..thanks

  • Hey Doug were you parents supportive of you when you first started learning how to play guitar? Did you feel the pressure of schoolwork too? I started learning how to play a nylon string classical acoustic in 10th grade when I was 15 in high school and enjoyed learning from my music teacher. On the other hand, my parents weren't too supportive of me when I first started learning how to play the guitar.........they said it isn't an easy way to make a living and that I will have to starve

  • Hey Doug I didn't throw out my 2 Ozzy Osbourne CDs...I think I made the right decision...............My friend said whatever decision I make will be the right one....

  • Doug, I own two Ozzy Osbournes CDs - Tribute and Black Rain...I go to a Christian church and the pastor says Ozzy Osbourne's music is against God and is Satanic....should I throw out my Ozzy Osbourne CDs? I have a choice to make....

  • @Shawn72Chu - I don't want to come between you and your pastor so I'll limit my comment to... Ozzy isn't going to make you a bad person. He's also not going to make you a good person. Your pastor can't make you a good or bad person either. That choice is up to you and it sounds like you've got your head on straight.

  • Hey Doug do you like Joe Satriani and Steve Vai?

  • @Shawn72Chu Yes, I like both Satriani and Vai. Many years ago, I knew Steve right before he became well known as a solo artist. I haven't spoken to him since then but do enjoy his music. But.... I don't listen to much instrumental music but do appreciate their playing.

  • Hi Doug! One of the best song that i`ve ever heard!!!

Make comeback with Hawk and come to play in Finland!!!

    AMAZING SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Wishes Tony From Finland

  • Hi Doug! i have to say that i`ve heard first time from Hawk about 1 year ago. This song is unbelievable. Singer is amazing !! Many of my friends here in Finland have been shocked when they have heard this song !! Keep making music man!!

    With Best of Wishes

    Tony From Finland

  • @cossu1 Thanks Tony. I've got another Hawk song that's going to be posted soon. I'm glad you enjoy the music we created twenty-five years ago.

  • Too bad we don't have bands like this nowadays.

  • Too bad the hair days are over..

But pretty cool that someone who has worked with Matt Sorum from Guns 'N Roses teaches guitar on youtube.

  • Doug what is the website for the forum so I can do the discussion?

  • @Shawn72Chu bb-metalmethod com (put a dot before com)

  • Doug what is your opinion on drugs and alcohol in the music business? For me I'm totally against the drugs.

  • @Shawn72Chu - That's a huge subject that deserves a huge answer. Since I've only got 411 characters remaining, this probably isn't the format for this discussion. Try our forum. The short answer is, both are destructive. Both offer immediate gratification without actually accomplishing anything. Why work to achieve a goal when you can receive instant gratification by doing nothing? That's destructive and I've only got 48 characters remaining.

  • Hey Doug, I would have been 2 years old when this recording was made. This is my first time listening to Hawk and I have to say this song is a real gem and I'm glad it was made; I had to chuckle a bit about the style at the time and the choreograph but it must have been amazing to have made such great music. I don't really 'get' a lot of mainstream music today and feel like I was born about 15 years too late and missed out on a lot of this stuff.

  • Great stuff.....I sent this to Scott.

  • @khower Tell Scott that I said hi. I also posted Fades So Fast from the same show and plan to post some of the other vids.

  • OMG! Awesome find for me as I lost contact with Charles and David many many years ago. I'm their 2nd cousin Tim. Please, if you have more Hawk videos with Charles post them. I still love his voice after all these years.

  • I am also their cousin, spent this past weekend with Charles and his family in Nashville and watch the new band PLATINUM ROSE practice. It was great to see them again.

  • That's my daddy on vocals :]

  • @KlutzyKelly Tell your daddy hi.

  • Great band... Great guitar sound in album form '85.. From witch album is this song??

  • Doug i have a question, you and londa marks are brothers?

  • @maokobra10 - Londa is my ex-wife. She was responsible for Hawk's image.

  • i can't find the lyrics :( it's a good song, i love Hawk

  • @girlfriendje9 - Thanks. I don't know of anywhere that the lyrics are posted but they shouldn't be that hard to figure out. If you can't understand some of the words send me a message of what you think is correct and I'll check it out.

  • GREAT chit Charlie...(Larry Joe)

  • great song

  • @MusicianSixtyNine - thanks

  • This is music with a capital M hey all you new bands out there this is how its done, great vocals, great instumentation, hooks, melodies. Kick Ass two horns up, love to play this on my internet radio show

  • Amen! This is how REAL music is played. With raw power and emotion heart and soul. Something that is definately missing from todays bands. Nothing compares to the 80's. Nothing.

  • what ever happend to this band????

  • Metal to the max solo!

  • great vocal's!

  • i use to have the "MORRILL" EP with this on it... great song

  • awesome video! thank's for posting it,great vocal's!

  • Matt Sorum on drums???

  • No, Scott Travis (Judas Priest / Racer X) on drums.

  • Thank´s

  • I love this song! Everything is great, the guitar, vocals, bass, drums, it's EPIC! Bands need hair like that nowadays...

  • Performance at Roxy- Noone to love

Doug this song is absolutely fantastic. Your soloing is amazing and you look mighty young. I don't know if you still teach songs in length, but in my opinion this one is a must. The solo is so tasteful and soulful. I would love to learn to learn it would you consider Metal Method DVD on this song. I know you have done it before because I have your VHS classic songs on Dokken-Alone Again. This song is just as good. Thank you for your time.

  • Thanks. Glad you enjoyed No One To Love. I don't have any plans to teach the song but it could happen. I'll keep it in mind.

  • Thanks to my fiancee, I am officially obssessed with this song! I have been listening to it over and over again the last couple of days. Songs like this don't seem to exist anymore. Thanks for posting it! Who is the lead singer in this video? He is phenomenal!

  • That's great. Charles Morrill is the vocalist

  • Just ran across this song today...damn. Love it. Rich sound...even the vocal effects are great for live sound...all the tones, effects and stage presence were put together perfectly. GREAT SONG and great job...kicking ass....just what my soul needed today. Thank you for that artist contribution! Lovin it!

  • The vox sound similar to Lizzy Borden. Good stuff.

  • damn, i have this song on a b-side of a 7" record, but it was the band MORRILL...

  • Great video! Thanks for posting this Doug.

  • Holy shit! This song is awesome! I can't stop listening to it, it's just so fucking tasty!

  • AAHH! The good old days !

  • great video!!! Is that Mr. Scott Travis on the drums?

  • Sure is. I've got a great drum solo that he did during this show that I'll upload sometime.

  • wow... can't wait to see it! Scott Travis is one hell of a drummer!!!

  • Man how could it be that this is the first time I hear you :s

I love the song man, it is exactly what I would like to play with my band. There seems to be something, the extra magic thing you need to make a song. If you have a little time to answer me, I'd like to have your moment to tell me what I could do better.

    Greetings

  • I chat with people on our Metal Method Forum and would be glad to take a look at your YouTube video. You can contact me at bb-metalmethod com

  • Hey doug, epic videos and lessons, plus all your solos have nothing in common, showing that your playing is awesomely versatile!

Also please could you check out my videos and see how my metal improvisation is coming along? Thanks!

  • Doug! where i found the lyrics of this song? i cant stop to hear is so beautyfull! this bands is perfect i like this line up! is perfect like Sin n steeler <3!

  • I don't have a copy of the lyrics but they shouldn't be too hard for you to copy down.

  • LOVE IS DANGER IN THE MORNING! You guys rock and Charlie is a great guy.

I have your metal method DVDs as well.

  • hey man. i typed in the title of the song cuz i ahd the blues, and now i've that i've listened to it a few times, i had to stop adn say thanks man. its a good song and fills another void thats out there.

  • Hi Doug, have you given any thought to re-forming Hawk even with new members or even starting a new band project altogether?

I'm sure you have been asked this PLENTY but it would just be great to see you out there going for it!!

  • Yes, I think about it but what I'm doing with the guitar lessons takes an incredible amount of time. I would love to do it again but it would be tough for me to give up my "day job" - Metal Method. When I put together Hawk in '85 I put my business on hold and invested $80,000 in the project. On this page is everything that I've got to show for it aside from experience and memories.

  • Thanks for putting that online Doug !Remember some years before I pm you about Hawk vids ! You've finaly fulfiled part of my dream =)))

  • I don't recognize this screen name but I believe I know who you are. There were a couple of people that were relentless. I said that I would eventually do it and here it is. Before long I hope to have the entire concert up because there's been such a positive response. It's funny, I watch this video more than any other video that I've posted.

  • Have any videos with David Fefolt?

  • No, wish I did. We never performed with David.

  • Doug, I have a confession to make...I used to buy your $10 lessons back in the 80s, copy the tape and the book, then send it back saying I wanted to trade it for the next one because I was too advanced for it...5 for the price of 1 wasn't bad...

  • I'm sure that you're not the only one. Now that you've found God I'll accept the $50 plus $25 shipping (I had to pay to send them to you six times) You'll be surprised how much better your guitar playing becomes once this burden is lifted from your shoulders. I'm looking for more than a confession.

  • LOL...I think actually confessing was enough...my sweep arpeggios have actually gotten better in the last hour...Thanks for listening and being understanding...

  • No, no, no. I didn't fully absolve you of your sins, I just gave you a one hour break. Feel how your left hand is starting to curl up? The tremor in your lips. Have you noticed that yet?

  • not sure where you're going with that one....kinda making me uncomfortable in a Cathlic priest-alter boy kind of way...

  • Doug, have you ever heard of a band from Niagara Falls, ON, Canada called HONEYMOON SUITE?

They wrote a song called lethal weapon for the movie LETHAL WEAPON starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in 1987

  • Doug, have you ever met Don Dokken or George Lynch?

  • The Bullet Boys. Their bass player, Lonnie gave me a gold album of that recording. So, to answer your question I just had to look to my right. The writing was on the wall so to speak.

  • Thanks for posting this, Doug. Brings back memories of my L.A. days. I was at this show actually; and used to play with "Charlie" and his brother in Black Knight years ago. Met you and Londa during that time, and jammed with you a couple of times in a rehearsal studio while you were forming this line up of Hawk. I also remember Londa doing our hair and make up one night for a show Black Knight played in San Pedro. She made us look like rock stars; and I think the Aquanet people were happy, too!

  • Send me an email message to MetalMethod com customer service. They'll pass it on to me.

  • Dave Fefolt was a MUCH better singer... No comparison!

  • Doug, have you ever met Reb Beach from WINGER?

  • No, never did. I used to know Kip's brother Nate. He actually painted the background in my studio where we shot "Speed Kills"

  • We sell the CD at metalmethod com but I don't want to mislead you, the CD was basically recorded by another band. I'm the only member of this version of Hawk on the CD (guitar), different vocalist, bass player, and drummer.

  • yea ... but the HAWK cd with david singing is still very cool for all those who want to get one ,,, it also had matt from guns and roses on drums... very very cool i like it ..

BUT i do have to say i guess because i was the singer and co writer on alot of the songs of the origanal line up .. that HAWK in the video and the orianal recordings is the BEST ,, WE HAD THE MAGIC have a great day .

    Charlie Wayne Morrill

  • im defeinitely buying the album

    this rocks

  • Hi Doug i bought your leassons back int the 80's when they were on cassette I had never heard any of your songs before sounds very proffesional ( awesome )

  • Whoa...the hair is blinding...But the song was great! Thanks Doug.

  • Yes, we were searching for drummers and found Scott in Virginia and relocated him to California. After Hawk broke up he joined Racer X. No, I never met Paul Gilbert.

  • Doug dude, Hey... I just wanted to thank you for the CD, bro'. Rock on.

  • You're welcome

  • WOW, I've been seeing dougs metal method advertised for last 20 years and finally got around to picking it up a couple years ago. This is my first time seeing hawk and I'm kicking myself in the ass for not getting into them sooner. Live and learn my friends

  • we want more of hawk videos pls and cant find hawk album its soooo rare

  • I plan to post about one song from the Roxy show a month. The album can be purchased at our web site: metalmethod com. It wasn't recorded by the same band though and sounds quite different.

  • Cool video. Thanks for teaching me to play guitar Doug...way back in '84. Metal Method rules.

  • Thanks. Yep, it's been a long road. Still having fun!

  • Awesome take back to the 80's! Some say hair bands were cheese but really was a great time.I learned the Metal Method when I was like 15 years old. Been playing for 24 years now and my metal band has cd's out with songs on the radio. Thanks to Hawk,Doug and Metal from the 80's to now.

  • THATS AWSOME !!! doug does have the magic for sure !!! HAWK is very special then and now,

great to hear about you bands as well .. keep rocken.

  • dude i know your just messing around .. RIGHT !... any way i sale 1000,s of albums every year .. mabie its time ya check out some of my other stuff as well . plus the minnit doug put a cd out .. it would sale like crazy ... hawk was and is magic... be glad to turn ya on to some of the other stuff ive written and performed . have a great day ,plus

  • you are such a beast and travis is the master drummer

  • It's weird seeing the "Metal Method" ad in action! Doug's even playing the white V. I'm always down for some Scott Travis. This was surprisingly cool... I expected something, I don't know... horrible I guess, but they sound great!

  • I like this comment. "Expecting something horrible." I would probably be right there with you if I didn't know better. Of course, as you mentioned, with Scott Travis on drums it would be challenging to sound horrible. I've got another song from this show that I'll eventually post that features a great Travis drum solo.

  • That's great. Welcome to the club.

  • On the flipside of your jab it applies to bands that DONT reunite just for fun...only for a quick cash grab and they ARE out there.

His comment "looked" like the latter on the surface.

Doug is Successful..Charles is Successful outside of Hawk, etc

Nice 1 day log in from the nutswingernation...

    long term vs short term.

  • Thanks, Doug! PureRocker hooked me up and I'm all over it !

  • I think they tried St. Bernards at first but they proved to be too heavy and the drool was causing their guitars to short out, so Poodles were the choice of many Hair/Glam Metal bands back in the day!!

  • Why not? Ever tried it?

  • Doug... consider working together with thehawksinger again and release another album... or tour with your old songs. I'd love to see my guitar teacher in action!

  • HI IM THE SINGER WE HAD very special times and a magic sound. We are getting a great response on this and who knows what could come of it?! mabie a new album . or a reunion tour COUNT ME IN !

  • Dont be delusional if you're truly the singer.....its 2009 and few reunions gather much interest plus labels are non existent these days.

If it happens....put it out on-line ( cdbaby) & dont tour if you dont want to lose your ass

    Keep your expectations "realistic"

  • I gotta go out on a limb here and ask if anyone knows the title(s) of Hawk's album(s).

  • The 1st and only LP was self titled and the cover was drawn by Dougs wife.

  • Thanks, Kat...!

  • wow thats doug marks? i had no idea, seems to of changed a little but not much, keep it glam!!

  • you guys were awsome

  • damn charlie! you sure prety!! you ready to do some more shows?? make sure yall check out shes on fire by dust and bones on youtube!!

  • Doug, is there any more video from this night? Great video, great guitar work, great memories of playing this kind of music. Thanks for posting!

  • Yes, I have the complete show. Some of the beginning stuff was poorly mixed because the soundman wasn't familiar with the music.

  • Zoomed me right back to my favorite decade of music. Doug, do you still have that white Jackson? I'm a Metal Method disciple and haven't seen you play it in the lessons. I saw a red one you had hanging on a wall.

  • Awesome...

  • awesome,great song.

  • Hey, thanks everyone. I want to respond to every one of your comments but I would just be repeating myself...thanks, thanks, thanks.

I do read every comment that gets posted and appreciate the overwhelming response.

  • awesome-- I love it--wish I would have been there !!

  • Hey that look is cool! Great Music Mr Marks!

  • Wow that's fucking metal as fuck...

  • thats what im talking about ..thanks

  • This is an awesome video. Great performances and "the looks that kill!"

  • Wow, I often wondered what the inspiration for the cover illustration on the original cassette was, since it was so obviously not Doug. This was great to watch.
