  • was 8 when this album came out.. first punk band i ever heard. got this on cassete. remember my cousin driving me around the city all the time blastin this in the mini van. r.i.p tommy

  • just stumble in fall into a world thats overcrowded and you find me will recognize me i wont recognize myself god damn I love this album even today. My life will be complete when I hear smoke clove catharsis live in the future. it was half complete when i heard triple zero days of the phoenix and but home is nowhere last year.

  • AFI D BEAT LOVE.

  • You know you were born in the wrong place/time when you only heard of AFI in 2007 when you were 11 by playing guitar hero 3 when you visited your cousins who live in sydney, australia

  • god his voice is crazy. love this band. saw them live a few years ago in pitts. definitely one of the best punk songs from one of the best punk albums from one of my favorite bands.

  • @shalalalauren how long ago and whered ya see em at im from pittsburgh

  • @MrTONYTOXIC uhh jeez not too long. couple years maybe? club zoo. sketchiest place to see a show. ever. haha

  • @shalalalauren oh god tell me about i saw rancid their when i was 15 talk about a death trap they fully break code to sardine 10000000 people in there lol

  • @MrTONYTOXIC haha for real. it was my worst crowd surfing experience. i got punched repeatedly. but totally worth it! love them. rancid's legit, too. you ever been to a show in cleveland?

  • @shalalalauren i havent listened to rancid probably since those days lol still love some old afi though ...iv never seen one out in cleveland yet though iv had many offers something seems to come up everytime lol

  • Classic cd.....definitely one of the top punk cds from a musical standpoint IMO.

  • i dont see this here but listen up.

dont spam at people who are mad they afi has changed

(in my opinion they have to read these comments and maybe one day they will decide to make a punk album for there diehard punk fans.) they did change for the worst but id love to hear some old afi on there next new album

  • AFI can change all they want, doesn't mean this tune is going anywhere. <3

  • @Jinxy1309 Exactly. A couple of shitty albums is no reason to hate a band.

  • !!!

  • WHAT THE F*CK HAPPENED TO AFI?????????????THIS AND ART OF DROWNING WAS AMAZING

  • @vivisect1945 this was way better. Drowning was were they started to go downhill.

  • fucking great song 1 dislike go fuck yourself

GO STUMBLE AND FALL INTO A WORLD OVER CROWDED

AND YOU WILL FIND ME, I WONT RECOGNIZE MYSELF!

  • Right from the scream at the beginning, you can tell these guys weren't fucking around. AFI was pretty damn awesome in the 90's.

  • @FamiPunk yea the scream at the beginning is amazing!! definitely gives you a chill when you first hear it.

yea man, afi = best hardcore punk band in the 90s

  • @Dustin795 That is a VERY bold statement. Can't agree with you there. Definitely a great album, though.

  • 1:35 - 2:22 One of The Sickest Melodic Breakdowns I Ever Heard!

  • Both acronyms are sweet.

  • @lv71389 =( i sorry

  • new stuff ok, oldest stuff ok, black sails and art of drowning the BEST MUSIC RELEASED SINCE MOZART

  • Man I forgot how badass their early stuff was

  • you will recognize me, but i won't recognize myself

  • man i miss the 90's AFI...i mean ill still listen to their new stuff...but its like...it doesnt feel the same...doesnt have the fire inside like it used to(hence their name A Fire Inside)

  • @BlakeTahoe actually its anthems for insubordinates. a fire inside is the new trendy name for scene and gay kids

  • @owl316 dude they were called A Fire Inside way back in 1993...i dont care if scene kiddies use that term haha...because thats actually what it meant....im 26...i was around back when they were badass, but im not bashin you or anything..atleast you're listening to this instead of rap or that other pop shit

  • @BlakeTahoe rap and that other pop shit is worse than having sex with a tranny

  • @BlakeTahoe you handled that well :)

  • @Marsdevilsvolta haha thanks, i didnt wanna contribute to the already high levels of youtube replys consisting of just the word faggot or the usual "your moms a whore" line...we have enough of that already..gotta break the cycle sometime haha

  • @BlakeTahoe Hell yeah, me and you both were around and knew AFI when they tore shit up!!

  • @BlakeTahoe Perhaps their fire was exanguished.... terrible pun. I am sorry.

  • Oh man. AFI, the hell happened? I miss this sound in their albums.

  • Dude.

That scream sounds like Zim from Commander Zim.

    Hah.

  • @Rawrrduckies

    lol

  • im goin to see AFI august 18th wit greenday.. I HAVE TO , i love AFI!! however, im scared that theres not even gonna be a mosh pit, if thast the case im gonna punch some 14 year old girs in the nose..

  • @yugoterror im going to the one on the 14th :D I CANT WAIT

  • @yugoterror lol i have the same worries. im gonna see them september 2 and i dont really like green day. i just really wanna see them. im gonna be super far from the stage though so tht sucks

  • I love the old instrumentals of AFI...but...the vocals...they just don't do it for me. I mean, I love a good scream, especially Davey's, but this old stuff just has bad singing and bad screaming :/ I mean, when they changed, did they feel that it was necessary to slow down the instruments along with cleaning up the vocals? None of it makes sense to me.

  • @RagingChaos27

This is AFI. The screaming is hardcore/punk rock... nothing can touch his screaming in this album. The way he screams now is similar to all those screamo bands out there.

This screaming is more raw and has more energy. Too bad he can't scream like this anymore, then we wouldn't have any of the Miss Murder/DU/CL fans that ruin what AFI stands for. Fuck... way too many posers at the AFI concert I went to in 2009, it's ridiculous. They got fucked over when DU hit the shelves.

  • @Dustin795 Well I like both the old and new AFI (except Crash Love). I liked the rawness of the older music but I love the depth of the newer. The lyrics are more creative, more well thought out, the songs are a good length, and everything is organized. Rawness and fair instrumentals are all I can really give to the old, mainly since the lyrics sound like a kid wrote them and the songs (correct me if I'm wrong) aren't really organized into Verses and Choruses. But w/e we all have opinions right?

  • @RagingChaos27

Yea, that's cool. Everyone has different tastes, I'm pretty sure I was in a bad mood when I wrote that comment lol.

It's just crazy how one band can change so much on every album, it's really inconsistent haha, but I guess that's what makes them AFI.

  • lol...love this song....

  • Dude I miss this AFI I can't stand Miss Murder.

  • how did they go from this to becoming emo/pussy sellouts?

  • they got a big bag of money, changes people....

  • old afi is too good,

this video is an amazing example of how people dont appreciate them when they were amazing. this videos been out for 3+ years, and only has 40,000 views

  • In an instant, my heart just slipped away.. I fought for life, the whole time you were... Holding me doowwnnnnnnnn!!...

  • This song is awesome!

  • @Blizzardisgreat

u really think this is old?

wtf are u some 5 year old shit?!

    this aint old for shit...

  • This music is old FOR AFI, since they only started in 91. Not old in general. Contrary to what you think there is a significant difference.

  • anthems for insurbodinates is still afi so you just said to fuck old afi as well. You could have just said to fuck new afi, although I like everything afi has put out, minus a few songs on crash love.

  • @MrSodaBelly

i know this comment is old but whatever i hate arguing on youtube but for afi, ill do it in a heartbeat. this is hardcore obviosly but it is definately punk. i dont know what ur hearing but evry1 else here can tell this is punk.

also this is OLDER not OLD 2 different words. old means from a loooooong time ago, but compared to now this is considered older. learn the words, 2 1st grade words

  • You know Crash Love isn't terrible, it is an alright album for AFI, if it WEREN'T AFI it probably be better, considerably.

  • may 18, 1999 <3

  • chill out, all afi is good.

    :)

  • minus the new stuff. even that decemberunderground crap, yikes.

  • probably the best song on this album next to the last kiss.. and clove smoke,, gah! theyre all fucking awesome!

  • thanks for the laugh

  • New A.F.I. isnt hella sick punk no more. I mean its alright but not that good. Still like old school AFI.

  • hands down one of the best lyrics davey has ever written!

also, just listen to that bass line, fucking intense.

  • ''you watched me dying holding me down, you brought my rebirth''

  • how did they turn pussy? just because they don't play the music you like?all music has to evolve and all that, and it's not selling out it's more like reaching a bigger audience.Like you wouldn't sell out if it meant more people get to hear your music? isn't that what bands really want? exposure and more fans?

  • no that is not what bands want!

    exposure? more fans?

okay they might want that but whats the use of having it if u have to lie to urself jus to get it?

  • how are they lying to themselves? davey makes music of what he feels.lying to yourself is making music the band hates but still does it.

  • davey is lying to himself look how he changes his looks with the trend!! back then he was him and diddnt give a fuck now he looks a backstreet boy

  • lol ok. A lot of people hange their looks all the time, it doesnt mean theyre lying to themselves. I changed my hair style every week and that doesnt mean i lie to myself or anything.

  • maybe he changed his mind...

you don't ever change your mind, do you?

  • yes i change my mind but never to sellout or lie to myself!

damn well complaining aint gonna solve anything ...i hope the best for davey and afi

but hell it would be best if they keep doin what their doin cuz no way they could get their old sound anyway cuz their mentality is diffrent from when they were teenagers! plus the afi is missing the 2 original members who wrote the nice riffs for davey's punk voice! no way these new guys could do it...so ya it is what it is

  • i can only partially agree with you because Jade and Hunter could write punk heck they wrote this song but yes they never sold out they just matured musically into what they are now

  • @JadePugetRox

dude i dont even consider this punk compared to the old members and the old afi songs...this is more on some hardcore emo shit - emocore

the lyrics are more emotional and poetic

  • im not going to argue with you over this is punk or what you call hardcore emo shit you can call it whatever you like but just because the lyrics are meaningful and/or poetic doesnt mean its emo

  • @JadePugetRox

it is [emo] when afi is crying about a girl , breakups , and hurting themselves

listen to the whole album espicially LAST KISS

and i diddnt say it was a bad thing

so stfu and suck my dick

  • @MrSodaBelly

I just listeind to The Last Kiss..and I must agree..but this is one of their greatest albums!

  • Yeah they matured into making candy coated electropop.

  • i fuckin love this album but i prefer shut your mouth and open your eyes :P

  • when r they releasing weight of words???

  • really? wow ive never heard it

    i guess i have to

  • great song and it seems like all they did was slow down there songs really so i like both the old and the new

  • i've been wondering the same thing for years

  • Best album!

  • AFI are releasing a song they recorded for black sails that didnt make the album

its called ''weight of words'' and im so excited

  • When are they releasing that??

  • Best AFI cd.

  • agreed this albu is the BEST a.f.i has to offer

  • lmao SS

  • one of the greatest punk albums ever

  • just a shot in the dark, but does anyone here have the black sails ep? because u could get a whole lot of money for it

  • there new cds suppposed to have a sound like this / taod.. crash love was produced in the same studio that this and taod was recorded

  • one can only hope its half as good as black sails or taod

  • even if it was recorded in the same studio the vocals will never be as good as this

  • Comment removed

  • To each his own, unless you don't like this song. lol

  • @TazGGGUNOT

You say Pantera; I say Goreguts.

You say KoRn; I say Deathspell Omega.

Please stop listening to typical, shitty, corporate backed music. Look up both of the bands I mentioned and you will see that they are MUCH heavier and FAR better than the crap that Viacom is shoving down your throat. Stop listening to bad music.

  • @sigilumsanguis pantera was by far one of the most amazing metal bands of all time, goreguts is nothing like pantera they are a different genre of metal and have reached not even close to the same amount of people who love the music pantera made and korn is fucking awesome! they have changed yes, who doesnt change? and who the fuck is deathspell omega? hahaha obviously not very well known so enough suck dicks

  • @blasphemyreborn No. Pantera was by far one of the most POPULAR metal bands of all time. Certainly, they had some tallent, but much of their popularity was due to outlets such as MTv and Vh1. The same goes for Korn, except that they have no tallent. They play the same boring, myopic song over and over, rearrange the composition and lyrics, and slap a new title on it. Commercial success does not dictate the skill of nor the quality of a band or their music.

  • @sigilumsanguis 100% agreement on that last point

  • @blasphemyreborn Hanna Montana had alot of commercial success too. Does that mean she's talented?

  • @TazGGGUNOT

You say Pantera; I say Goreguts.

You say KoRn; I say Deathspell Omega.

Please stop listening to typical, shitty, corporate backed music. Look up both of the bands I mentioned and you will see that they are MUCH heavier and FAR better than the crap that Viacom is shoving down your throat. Stop listening to bad music.

  • @sigilumsanguis you didn't get the point with my comment. Why do you care what I listen to?

  • those bands u named i wouldnt consider them good or real sorry

  • rofl, introducing my first love with harder metal... this album kicked ass and still does... i will always respect these guys... even if they did go mainstream... they will always have a place with me, they have lead me to bigger and better things... all shall perish, suicide silence, heaven shall burn... all kick ass bands, all started with this album... great great fucking band

  • all shall perish is brutal \m/

  • converge, botch, between the buried, the ocean.....

afi was really the start of me listening to greater things from music too...and i'm still a huge fan of their music from before DU

  • Superb album, in my opinon, it was ahead of its era in terms of genre and style. Perfect blend of hardcore and melody, with the begining hints of the AFI we have today, needless to say with the sprinklings of goth infused charisma. This song is one of my favourites on the album.

  • I'd agree with you, but I don't think that you really get a sense for where AFI is currently at from this album at all. Hence the disconnect in their fanbase.

  • classic

  • god, i love this AFI so damn much

i miss the Old PUNK years..

like even when the used were good as fuck, on there 1st cd. and even AFI sing the sorrow was good. but i just dont think im gonna like the new stuff they put out

i miss it when kids were cool and bands were still atleast kind of underground.

and yes, i know sing the sorrow is the CD that got them big" but it was great.

  • Does anyone know where their are more vids, besides the DECEMBERUNDERGROUND, STS, Art of Drowning, All Hallow's vids are. Oh and Third Season! I know theres more?

  • I think the only other video made besides the ones you mentioned is He Who Laughs Last

  • What happened to you AFI? o well at least i can just remeber when they were amazing.

  • yea.. >>>

  • Ahhhhhhhh I remember when AFI was good..... this album is amazing. The shit they're making now just throws me. THIS was music. Their first three albums and their eps were amazing.... what happened???

  • They grew up.

  • AFI the legend

  • This is the only AFI album that's hard for me to pick my fave song from!!!

  • the best part is definitely, "in, an instant my life just slipped away, i fought for life the whole time you were holding me down, you watched me dying holding me down, you brought my rebirth!" fucking incredible, the lyrics on this album are out of this world good!

  • this is THE song.

  • THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BANDS EVER. i don't see how people can deny that because they think they are so cool to call them sellouts now because they spent 10+ years being a small band and now they're multimillionaires. i don't like their new stuff beyond sing the sorrow, but they are very very talented.

  • true that bro, afi kicks ass, and yeah...DU wasnt there best...but i still liked it....afi 4ever

  • lmao

emo is the faggotry of music

    but this isnt emo...

emo is that shit thats infested all over warped tour now

  • No it's not. It's Hardcore/ Horror post-punk. Now AFI is post-hardcore.

  • AFI has no genre... don't label them... it's just awesome music.

  • Yeah anyhow. And when did 'horror' become part of a genre? I'd fit that more into Danzing and The Misfits.

  • No.. it has a genre

  • Then you obviously don't know AFI, their music fits into no genre, and they've stated that...

  • They fit into several different genres. This stuff is considered Horror Punk, and before this is Punk Rock/Hardcore Punk, and sing the sorrow and decemberunderground are Goth Punk. but no matter what genre, they are the greatest band to ever exist.

  • i agree. they seriously are the greatest band to ever make music.

    period.

  • Egh, Jon, I don't think you know what you are talking about. The terms Gpth Punk and Horror punk don't apply to AFI at all. Horror Punk is stuff like the Misfits "Teenagers from Mars" or "Return of the Fly." They're not really deserving of the term Goth Punk either, considering its roots with shit like TSOL.The, the best term for THIS album is probably what they called themselves, which is Eastbay Hardcore.

  • Well, I do agree that they were Eastbay Hardcore, but that changed with this album. They have stated that the Misfits were a big influence to them. Listen to the song "I Wanna Get A Mohawk". In the lyrics he says, "I listen to the Misfits every single day" and that was when they were Eastbay hardcore. So I personally feel that with those sort of references and their sound at the time, it's not a stretch to think they can very well fit into the Horror Punk genre.

  • I think AFI was a great band, however

I think December Underground was a continuation of a poor direction that started with Girls Not Grey. I get the aesthetic, but, Black Sails and Drowning are totally different than their last two and in my opinion, far better. This could be a difference of style, but I think there was a sense of importance to their lyrics with the two aforementioned albums that you just don't have with their major record label stuff.

  • I think we can agree there.

  • DecemberUnderground Goth Punk? In my opinion it's more like Alternative rock with various Experimental/80s influences if you ask me (The Cure, etc. and electronic sounds as well that Jade said were almost used on Blaqk Audio).. Sing the Sorrow was a lot more punk influenced than DU but I still see it as more of an Alternative rock album with several goth/punk influences.. but yeah I do agree with u on one main thing they do excel at the genres they pursue which makes them a very versatile band

  • AFI used to be hardcore Punk but they had alot of Goth influences like The Cure and The Cult, as well as Horror Punk like The Misfits obvious. Then with Sing the Sorrow they went alternative. That's just how it seems to me anyway.

  • Yeah that's pretty much the way it is. As far as Crash love, it seems like it'll be Alt. Rock meets Hard Rock, Medicate was very guitar Driven and Davey's showing an obvious Morrissey influence nowadays; so who knows what to expect lol

  • couldnt agree more

  • true that

  • Dose it mater if its emo or not. Its Kick ass music!

  • Right! who cares about the genre? its just plain sweet!

  • thats the thing.. its not "emo" and yes it does rip!

  • just stumble and fall into the world that overcrowed an d yu will find me won't recognized me .. i love the chorus is great ,,, AFI 1998 is great

  • wtf? who in here is talking about homophobes?

emos are a bunch of stupid kids

  • you brought my rebirth, holding me down

  • i found meaning in this verse when i went trough marine corps boot camp

  • ha i bet

  • <333333

  • Awesome album!

    AFI IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!

dont call them "EMO" you fucking FAGS ahhaha

  • You're like a 13 year-old "emo" kid, aren't you?

Don't get me wrong, I love AFI AND Blaqk Audio, but DAMN.... you just sound like a complete moron. Could you please go jump off a cliff or something?

  • hahahahaha agree

  • but why are most comments here arguing over labels? this is a song, it's youtube, it's not time to argue. it's time to enjoy the music.

  • haha, another great word I know due to AFI. exsanguination :P

  • afi is the first band i obsessed over and the last.

i miss the punky afi tho. :(

  • theyre more metal...

  • metal? wtf?!

  • i was talking about another band!!

    not afi...geesh people

  • ooooh hahaha

    its ok

  • afi the best ever !!!!

    hardcore punk!!1

    or gothic

    but i guess it punk!!!!!!hardcore

  • totally agree^^

  • I'm basically OBSESSED as well. AFI, Killswitch Engage, Otep, Blaqk Audio, Lamb of God. Doesn't get much better than that!
