well on my mac ox s macbook hd i have 2 accounts (guest and mine with pass) and i was on mine listening to youtube but then the sound stopped but only on youtube and now im on guest and it works fine plz tell me wats wrong?

  • every mac sounds like that

  • The first two days i was turning it on it just made the chim sound when i started it, no disc drive sound. Then i loaded a disc, it must of been scratched because it wouldnt load . So instead of force quiting it i held down the power button for like 10 secounds and turned it off. After i did that , everytime i start it , it does the same thing... Disc drive noise I dont know if i fucked it up or not apparently not afer seeing all these comments what do you think?

  • The first sound you hear is the cd drive checking for a disc.

  • cd seek

  • I have a MacBook and that is totally normal! :D

  • normal. ive used a macbook HD and its normal

  • The the cd drive checking for a disc.

  • normal

  • I have that kind of sound before comes the boot Poooooommmmmmm sound. I have MacBook Pro Unibody 13" 10.5.8

  • perfectly normal thats just the start-up sound

  • if your HDD did that, that would mean you would need to get a new one cause that one is going to crash soon. but its just the super drive...^_^ as you can see from everyone here

  • WRONG. its just normal for that noise.

  • That's the SuperDrive (CD Drive) and is completely normal. My PowerBook G4 did that too.....

  • completely normal..

  • its normal man, i mean i have a imac but still

  • mine too

  • thats normall

  • it the cd drive 'feeling' for disks

  • my wii makes a noise laike that. It's just the CD SLot. Dont worry

  • Ho scoperto ke il problema era dovuto a Sophos Antivirus. dopo aver settato un pò di cosine è andato meglio. Magari anche altri antivirus possono creare un problema simile!

  • mine did this a lot. Yesterday somehow the hd fried and now i need to get a new one because apple says it was water damaged.

  • Mine makes the same noise...I'm on a black one and I was wondering if it was a problem because this is my first Mac ever :P

  • Just the CD slot. Dont worry.

  • That's the CD drive moving the laser to look for discs.

  • mine does that too

  • My G3 iMac can boot almost as fast as that and I love that startup sound

  • I forgot to mention that there is some strange problem with my 1999 iMac (note that it is old) but I think it's that OS X is damaged or something because 10.4.11 sudendly became more bright than it sould be. I think it's OS X becase Mac OS 9.2.2 doesn't look unusually bright. The processor 600 Mhz with 384 MB RAM

  • NOthing is normal!! My MacBook do it only from last Friday... it can be a software Problem! Ke palle, vaffanculo, questo problema nn ci voleva!!!

  • è tutto normale anche il mio lo fa DAL PRIMO GIORNO che ce l'ho...

  • Your CD/DVD drive will either make this noise (Panasonic Matushita Optical) or something like a VVT VVT (Hitachi-LG Optical Data Storage drive). This noise is perfectly normal and it is just getting ready to accept a disk. Most slot loaders made for computers will make this noise.

  • cd drive!

  • It's just normal. The time you press the power, automatically the HD turns on and that's why it sounds like that. BTW love the bootup sound. And back to the topic, that's completly normal.

  • Completely normal. Mine does it too.

  • fuck that was a fast startup! I've got the new blackbook and its got leopard, its no where near that!

  • he is running tiger thats why

  • thats the disk drive daaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

  • thats not a hard drive you idiot....that is your cd drive

  • optical drive just starting up its not a startup sound.there is not real easy way to turn it off and if you did, it probably woulndt be a good idea, because you wouldnt be able to use it(because it would have never turned on in the first place)there are some programs on the internet that let you turn off the startup chime though. just do a quick google search, but some people have had problems with it so i wouldnt recommend it but what you can do is just turn off the volume when you turn it off

  • Does someone have an ideas how to disable the (first) cd-drive startup sound?

  • there are two sounds heard here:

    1)cd drive (normal)

    2)startup chime (normal)

  • dude mine does not do that

  • its a norma start up sound it would`nt be normal if it was this BEEEPWEUWEUBEEPBEEPBOOMBZZZZZ

  • ahhh, it sounds beautiful

  • ok thanks

  • yep, its normal.

  • That start up sound is actually the disc drive. It's normal.
