I find that, if your cameras are not time code synced, that using the flashing light(s) work extremely well in syncing up the the cams

So basically you're explaining how to fade from one Video to the next... I wouldn't classify this as multicamera because you are just randomly fading and you have no way of knowing what camera 2 conceals... This only works if you know both videos by heart (frame per frame)
The actual multicamera feature on CS3 + CS4 works better and gives you a preview of both video feeds, enabling you to see what you are cutting from and what you are cutting to.
