I actually do not get the argument thing except as arguing. Malthus said that technological innovation can result in population booms that increase faster than resources such as food supply, such that populaton can then bust. I get that as rather self-evident. Extinction happens, war happens, etc...

I also get that folks on the edge of a bust may emotionally react against such a recognition of an "Elliott wave" pattern. Some oppose it- as if it was morally wrong- just like Schopenhauer said.
