We "gen x" rejected collectivism; we simply didnt trust as easily as the predatory and parasitic principalities that tried to manipulate us would have liked. We were written off and the reason for our outcry and "misbehavior" hidden.

"Gen X-cellent" this is what we wanted but gov got a hold and saw the negative side and used only their perspective. Ok i am bsing but i am old and i think your generation is perfect and all of you have the answer to world peace and everything good cause you saw the bs from the previous generations and the mistakes we made. Think about this, we will spend more than a TRILLION occupying Iraq. That money could instead have gone into the social security "lockbox" to support the Boomers in their retirement. I really don't care what they call us. The real point isn't the label Boomers have given us, it's the legacy they've given us. When Vietnam was going on, Boomers were against the war, because THEY were getting drafted to go fight it. Then they got older and totally sold out. They elected Reagan twice and both Bushes because they were promised tax cuts, which were funded by running up huge deficits and ignoring serious problems like global warming that WE will now have to fix.

Never thought about this. Who came up with that name anyway? Some dude that stares at a computer behind a cubby wall I'll betcha. The name does have an impact come to think of it. If the generation were named, "the generation that will make a difference" then others would seek to live up to the name. Instead people are living up to the name 'x'. How are they living up to that name? by being nameless and unheard, slaves.

The guy who invented the name "Generation X" was author Douglas Coupland, who wrote "Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture." He got that name from the punk band named Generation X, fronted by Billy Idol. It's possible Idol called his band Gen X following Richard Hell's search for a label for his generation, when Hell penned the song Blank Generation. Of course the generation that both Idol and Hell hail from is Generation Jones. Gen Jones brought us the first wave of punk.

I agree, Gen X is a terrible name and it needs to go.. I don't know why there needs to be any labels in the first place. We can change things without labeling people and pigeon-holing them into little groups.
