@tekramt Hi - thanks for commenting on my video. What I actually said is that I was in "midtown atlanta not too far from Georgia Tech" According to google maps, I am 12,000 feet away from that antenna on Spring Street. There must be another antenna nearby.
Ping varies between I'd say 95ms to 120ms. Much higher than DSL or Cable, but VOIP seems to work OK...not sure about online games though since they seem to very sensitive to that. Still getting similar speeds with no slowdowns to this day.
CINR (Carrier to Interference-plus-Noise Ratio) is a much better measure of performance. That's because RSSI measures raw signal strength including noise. You can have a high RSSI value with lots of noise and the signal quality would be poor.
I get a CINR of up to 16 when the modem hits 4 bars (the LEDs on top of the modem). 3 bars CINR is ~9-12. Bandwidth is about the same with 3 or 4 bars, but latency is noticeably improved @ 4 bars.
The reason for this high throughput is the antenna location. The author stated that he is near Hotel Atlanta off Georgia Tech:
800 Spring St. NW Atlanta, GA 30308
Antennasearch showed that the tower is:Nextel License Holdings 1, Inc.103 feet.13 miles
Wimax works well at distances of about 3000 feet. Beyond that you really have to position your antenna outside or near a windows.

that's fast !! ôõ hmm
but when you say the RSSI value should be high, you mean -43 is better than -65 for example ?!

Yes -43 > -65. You want to get those numbers as high in value as possible.

RSSI ~ -71 to -65.
Ping is ~67 - 89 ms.
