What is so funny, is the modernized version of this (think a typical rap song) is not liked by some people, but the old banjo/minstrel shit is right up their alley.

Bruce Springsteen's version is better but this is still alright.

Springsteen didn't do the chorus right and he skipped some of the verses. This is closer to the original, though he missed the first verse. Burl I ves did the best version in terms of all the verses being true to the original. Can't find that version on YouTube.
