Everything you said is everything I would have wanted to say and how it "should" be done.(and no, not that I'm right all the time... just saying I wholly agree with you.) Good stuff sir!
Great video Tom! I've always enjoyed your reviews on BoardGameGeek and just started watching your videos here. I hope to see more.
I have three kids of my own and have played games with them since they were old enough to understand them. One thing I've taught them, that wasn't mentioned here, is to be a good sport, whether they win or lose. I've played with far too many poor-sported adults that I refuse to let my kids grow up to be like that! Be competitive but also show integrity!
Best video ever Tom - consciously or subconsciously I think you've just described not only the best way to play games with kids but how to be the best parent to your children so that they can negotiate the twists and turns of that crazy game called Life...
haha This is great. I pretty much agree with everything when it comes to keeping a balance, but I admit I do usually play to win. But I do it nicely. :-|
I completely agree. I remember playing my dad at chess for years and it took me a very long time to beat him and when I did it was a great moment. He was never brutal or overbearing while we played so i always wanted to come back and play again.
I look forward to having children of my own to play games with , and I will indeed try not to crush them with my awesome gaming prowess (snigger).
Anyway, thankyou as always for the vid, I have bought some great games on your recommendations.
Great vid - and i wholeheartedly agree. Playing games with my 2yr old and 8yr old is equally as fun - it just requires a very different approach for each. I might have to give the CRUSH THE KIDS approach a go though - sounds like fun and will certainly shock 'em.
Funny video and one of my favorites even though it doesn't really apply to me (no children and I've already been following them when I do play with younger people). Still, where is your wife? Why wasn't she out there dancing with your kids or beating them up or something? Anyway, keep up the good work!
That was awesome. I am constantly facing the challenge of introducing age-appropriate games to my daughter and will admit that your video series helps quite a bit. Now if I could just _find_ the games you present for a semi-reasonable price.... :)
Seriously, though, that was a great video. Thanks for sharing. I think I may show this one to my daughter - she'd appreciate the girls if not all the rest of it.
In fact, many classicists argue that Achilles' rage was not triggered by Patroclus' death but rather by Hectors' complete disregard for the safety of cats during the Achaean's assault.
i have kids and they are still a little young for. most games, but i do remember playing chess with my father as a child, and we still play to this day. (we split a pair of games just 2 days ago). one of the things we did was once the game was over we went back a few moves to see what we could have done differently. and we would discuss it and talk it through and it turned into way mroe than a simple(?) chess game.

Let's play Phase 10! - A thousand times no!
That's the only right answer, Tom.
Down with Phase 10!
P.S.: I would have never expected that you put so much comedy in a video.
But it's great!

You should have the Towerettes do a dance number at the end of every video.

haha, yeah, that wasn't weird.
I also really dislike when people just yeyyy whatever the kid does and throw the game absurdly.
(and lol at poor Violet at the end)
