I live in Canada. I needed Pelvic Ultrasound done but my Canadian dr. said my ultrasound is scheduled 2 month later. I called private practice in Canada and they said waiting time is 2 wks and costs $600. I called Japanese gynaecology clinic. They say it costs $50 (5000yen) w/o insurance and no appointment necessary!!!
You are correct, the Japanese system is NOT perfect. However, average waite times are not extremely long. I have never waited more than 30 minutes, and I have also never made an appointment! I am also able to go direcly to a specialist, which saves me a lot of money and time.
But lets say you are right, would you rather live in a country where nobody dies for lack of healthcare but has to wait every once and a while, or a country where 44,000 people die every year?
50% of Japan's hospitals are having deficit problems related to those artifically low medical prices. They can't properly balance their books with those prices. Japanese emergency rooms are turning people away. One reason is because some are being overcrowded by people with small medical problems taking advantage of those cheap prices.
