...but as I understand, the Destiny Gundam was created one year after the Strike Freedom...in my opinion (and un-biased fact), it's an all-around better Gundam, save for how much fuel is wasted in it's Wings of Light (Extreme Blast) Mode.
Who knows what the outcome would've been? I'd say what really defeated Shinn (far more so than being shot down) was over-using the Wings of Light.
Besides, I don't think Shinn had even fully mastered his SEED Mode...
@ifnsman The SF is better equipped for general combat because it had so many more ranged attack options to go with his great speed and maneuverability. The WoL system on the Destiny is incredibly energy consuming, and really the only way it can be utilized is for a melee attack, the freedom's Dragoon system, is much more versatile in it's range offensively and defensively, but the Destiny's weaponry overall is more powerful.
I love how people are trying to argue about who is better, Kira or Shinn... Face the facts, Shinn was an amazing melee fighter. Kira was an amazing ranged fighter. Kira was genetically made to be the ultimate pilot, Shinn wasn't. I'll admit both of them are cool. Both are flawed, but personality aside Kira is still the better pilot. However, I will also state that your opinion is your opinion, if you like it feel free to defend it. I won't necessarily change mine but I won't hate you for yours.

@Red72618 Sunrise claims the Hyper Duterion engines used by the Infinite Justice and Strike Freedom are the same ones used by the Destiny and Legend, however WoL has an energy consumption rate higher than that of the engine's output. Even in the show the Destiny was faster than the SF, which in that aspect the SF really didn't have high speed maneuverability without the Meteors. The voiture lumiere(The wing of lights effect you see on the SF. Is not the same as the Destiny, it's purely cosmetic

Wol its pure generic made by the fans and that non-sense frontal single beam shot would that direct at the battalion in different direction with one single shot is ridiculous idea, only a alien technology has the ability to create impossible to spread the beam at different direction at one shot.
kira is the best pilot here in destiny, because he managed his emotion even in seed mode. the berserker mode right? that's what make him cool because even in wild mode, he can still disable machines, and avoid their cockpits so that they will not die. unlike shinn, in seed mode, he will always kill.
Kira is the Ultimate Coordinater. Shin has more killing intent. Kira has no formal training except for experience. Shin had formal training. Kira tries not to kill instead aiming for the head, arms, and legs. Kira and Shin are about the same. But if Kira were to have actual killing intent, Kira would win. But it would be hard to say, since there fighting styles are different.
Right in the beginning of this clip we have Seed working it's magic again...the Gouf's and Zaku's just float there and stare as a pretty green beam goes flying toward them.
Honestly, Kira's a kickass pilot and all, but half his kills are contributed to nonmoving targets.

The only reason the fight between Shinn and Kira even took place was so that the SF Gundam could be given a chance 2 be revealed. 1. is there even a single fair and square battle in gsd? no chance to accurately evaluate their skills but it is safe to say they are on par with each other.
2. both of them suffered emotional stress. kira in SEED, shinn in GSD. but kira overcame that in GSD. kira > shinn when it comes to mental condition making him the better pilot.
3. good mental condition and emotional training is necessary for anyone in the military specially pilots, but shinn fails at that.

@Jeremypsp2006 It's a matter of preference in style. Gundam Seed skimped out on a lot of battle and added a lot of philosophical dialogue, and there's a lot of ways to look at some of the characters. If you watch Gundam 00 or G Gundam, you get a lot more ass kicking, and talking about ass kicking, and promises of ass kicking. Some prefer less talky more bashy.
@genovaz Yeah, I have watched g gundam and gundam 00 and there are lots of action while seed has a lot of talking. But seed still isn't that bad as I find the action goes well with the dialogues :D
It's pretty well establish that Shinn is unable to beat Kira without support. He needs either a teammate (Steps in when he's trouble as he was in destiny Gundam) or the backup of a battle cruiser ship (To give him spare parts if he's using impulse Gundam). This kind of thing only works on Kira because Kira is a softy (Pacifist) If it was Mu La Fraga or Andrew Bartfield Shinn would've dead.

In phase 43, in the 2VS1, Shinn was NOT in SEED mode(While Kira was, so Kira SEED mode>Normal Shinn obviously). Since SEED mode is the physical representation of surpassing one's limits, so when you're in SEED mode, you're basically fighting at 110% capacity. And Shinn was complacent during the battle, because he knows Rey got his back, and they almost managed to kill Kira if it weren't for Athrun saving him again.
In phase 34, Kira only managed to hit Shinn ONCE in the entire battle, and then he was never able to hit Shinn again, if Kira is superior as you claim, he should've been able to hit him more than once, but he couldn't. And it's also a fact that Kira has never shown in the series that he is superior to Shinn in any way, due to Shinn has a tech disadvantage(Freedom>Impulse in performance) or plot shielding(Shinn not using SEED mode).

In this case protecting the A.A. = is to defeat the Impulse as quick as possible so he can deal the threat to the ship. But the situation is turnout a disaster for him than he anticipated. He underestimate his opponent due to his overconfident winning and over relying technology advantages made him caught unprepared by a unorthodox tactics. Military tactics is the key to victory. There is no need to make reason or excuse for the A.A. Deal with it.

I still think with that huge disadvantage the anti ship sword has ( It being a huge sword meant to cut down battleships it was given that design instead of the conventional beam saber hilt and saber ) that it could break through a normal beam saber and slice the MS thats using it. because honestly it should be that strong, esp since if you break the fucking thing that houses the beam on the anti ship sword you cant use it anymore.
@aeminence The Anti Ship Sword doesn't seem to be that strong. o3o Athrun seems to always break it with his beam sabers in the anime. XD If it's cutting down ships or what-not it would probably be easier to cut since the beam is on a metal frame. Other than that it'd probably be the same as using a beam saber on a ship. Beam Saber vs Anti Ship Sword = Beam Saber vs Beam Saber? I don't know. XD Just my opinion. =P
@AthrunZala2329 I think that the point of the Anti-Ship sword is the fact the metal frame gives it a bit more cutting momentum when swung. Momentum from the weapon having heft really CAN affect cutting strength, and make it easier to cleave larger targets. Granted, this makes the weapon more unwieldy. So, Beam Sabre vs. Anti-ship Sword is a win for Beam Sabres. But Anti-ship Sword vs. Ships, or larger MS/MA's is a win for Anti-Ship Swords, I would think.

Now, he wasn't a berserker, that term is thrown around so loosely that it doesn't actually reflect what a berserker really is. Kira becomes more focused in Seed Mode and unlike a berserker, he still thinks and has regard for his own safety and that of his allies.
I didn't say a 2v1 was fair. Nor did I take Kira's nearly being destroyed there (43) out of the context of it being a 2v1. However, I am countering the claim that Kira was totally going to destroy Shinn there.
Kira made his choices. He chose to enter a relationship with Flay (despite her being betrothed to one of his best friends), he chose to kill Coordinators for the reason of defending his friends, he chose to isolate himself and not rely on his friends, and he chose to fight as he did.
As far as the fight in 43 when SF kicked Destiny, it is often misattributed as Kira owned Shinn, but Rey saved his ass. Really, Shinn and Rey were clearly working cooperatively as they jumped him. It wasn't a fair fight, it was a 2v1, however, they knew this and were ganging up on Kira, in such a situation, the 2 are able to more easily take riskier moves, as they have support from each other. Shinn takes a risky attack, it fails, then Rey knocks SF off balance in an opening and they reverse it

Note when Rey had to shout Shinn after Destiny got kicked, and Shinn still had his eyes shut, falling down, that is possibly the best implication that it wasn't planned, and Rey had to tell Shinn to make a move about Kira losing balance for a moment.

kira is the best pilot here in destiny, because he managed his emotion even in seed mode. the berserker mode right? that's what make him cool because even in wild mode, he can still disable machines, and avoid their cockpits so that they will not die. unlike shinn, in seed mode, he will always kill.

Here's what I think...
Kira is the Ultimate Coordinater. Shin has more killing intent. Kira has no formal training except for experience. Shin had formal training. Kira tries not to kill instead aiming for the head, arms, and legs. Kira and Shin are about the same. But if Kira were to have actual killing intent, Kira would win. But it would be hard to say, since there fighting styles are different.

1. is there even a single fair and square battle in gsd? no chance to accurately evaluate their skills but it is safe to say they are on par with each other.
2. both of them suffered emotional stress. kira in SEED, shinn in GSD. but kira overcame that in GSD. kira > shinn when it comes to mental condition making him the better pilot.
3. good mental condition and emotional training is necessary for anyone in the military specially pilots, but shinn fails at that.

Also, it is mentioned in the book "Ultimate guide to US Army Survival skills, tactics, and techniques", which requires soldiers to have disciplined mental conditioning to be considered soldiers.

When Shinn activated his ''SEED Mode'',his beam rifle shots became incredibly accurate towards Kira.Kira barely blocked them with the strike freedom's beam shields.In that scene,you can clearly see Kira's face,he wasn't calm,he was struggling.During that battle,Rey did launch & attacked Kira so it was a 1vs2 fight.Kira was having a tough time fighting Rey(Rey can't enter SEED mode).Rey knocked Kira off balance & Shinn was about to fry Kira until Athrun joined the battle & saved Kira.Again.

If you watch Gundam 00 or G Gundam, you get a lot more ass kicking, and talking about ass kicking, and promises of ass kicking. Some prefer less talky more bashy.

It's pretty well establish that Shinn is unable to beat Kira without support. He needs either a teammate (Steps in when he's trouble as he was in destiny Gundam) or the backup of a battle cruiser ship (To give him spare parts if he's using impulse Gundam). This kind of thing only works on Kira because Kira is a softy (Pacifist) If it was Mu La Fraga or Andrew Bartfield Shinn would've dead.

In phase 43, in the 2VS1, Shinn was NOT in SEED mode(While Kira was, so Kira SEED mode>Normal Shinn obviously). Since SEED mode is the physical representation of surpassing one's limits, so when you're in SEED mode, you're basically fighting at 110% capacity. And Shinn was complacent during the battle, because he knows Rey got his back, and they almost managed to kill Kira if it weren't for Athrun saving him again.

In phase 34, Kira only managed to hit Shinn ONCE in the entire battle, and then he was never able to hit Shinn again, if Kira is superior as you claim, he should've been able to hit him more than once, but he couldn't. And it's also a fact that Kira has never shown in the series that he is superior to Shinn in any way, due to Shinn has a tech disadvantage(Freedom>Impulse in performance) or plot shielding(Shinn not using SEED mode).

I still think with that huge disadvantage the anti ship sword has ( It being a huge sword meant to cut down battleships it was given that design instead of the conventional beam saber hilt and saber ) that it could break through a normal beam saber and slice the MS thats using it. because honestly it should be that strong, esp since if you break the fucking thing that houses the beam on the anti ship sword you cant use it anymore.

XD If it's cutting down ships or what-not it would probably be easier to cut since the beam is on a metal frame. Other than that it'd probably be the same as using a beam saber on a ship. @AthrunZala2329 I think that the point of the Anti-Ship sword is the fact the metal frame gives it a bit more cutting momentum when swung. Momentum from the weapon having heft really CAN affect cutting strength, and make it easier to cleave larger targets. Granted, this makes the weapon more unwieldy. So, Beam Sabre vs. Anti-ship Sword is a win for Beam Sabres. But Anti-ship Sword vs. Ships, or larger MS/MA's is a win for Anti-Ship Swords, I would think.

Now, he wasn't a berserker, that term is thrown around so loosely that it doesn't actually reflect what a berserker really is. Kira becomes more focused in Seed Mode and unlike a berserker, he still thinks and has regard for his own safety and that of his allies.

I didn't say a 2v1 was fair. Nor did I take Kira's nearly being destroyed there (43) out of the context of it being a 2v1. However, I am countering the claim that Kira was totally going to destroy Shinn there.
Kira made his choices. He chose to enter a relationship with Flay (despite her being betrothed to one of his best friends), he chose to kill Coordinators for the reason of defending his friends, he chose to isolate himself and not rely on his friends, and he chose to fight as he did.

As far as the fight in 43 when SF kicked Destiny, it is often misattributed as Kira owned Shinn, but Rey saved his ass. Really, Shinn and Rey were clearly working cooperatively as they jumped him. It wasn't a fair fight, it was a 2v1, however, they knew this and were ganging up on Kira, in such a situation, the 2 are able to more easily take riskier moves, as they have support from each other. Shinn takes a risky attack, it fails, then Rey knocks SF off balance in an opening and they reverse it

"Shinn and Rey were clearly working cooperatively" that is your assumption, when clearly it's displayed to not be. Note when Rey had to shout Shinn after Destiny got kicked, and Shinn still had his eyes shut, falling down, that is possibly the best implication that it wasn't planned, and Rey had to tell Shinn to make a move about Kira losing balance for a moment.

I suppose if one completely ignores the events leading up to the fight and including the fight itself, they might come up with that kind of a response. They launched together and both flew straight toward an encounter with SF and simultaneously fought the MS. Shinn may have
