It makes me sick to think that all that happens now is z-list celebrity endorsed adverts about trivial bullshit like saying 'that's so gay...' People really had some guts way back when...
This POS at the top of the video. I honestly hope he died a horrible death. People that full of evil are monsters and it's no moral failing to want the death of a monster. The number of lives he ruined, gay kids who committed suicide because of him and people like him, are an indictment against him.
NY passed the same-sex marriage bill today. We owe so much to these brave brothers and sisters who stood up for their rights 42 years ago. Stonewall warriors...we will never forget!!
I was shocked, horrified and disgusted by how gay people were treated (mental institutions?!?). How far have we come since then but how much more there is to do (UAFA). To think that America started this gay rights movement (even Gay Pride, I had no idea!) and has now reached a seemingly glass ceiling. I recommend this documentary to everyone despite sexual orientation!
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to all of the brave souls who stood up against the NYPD at Stone Wall and effectively launched Gay Pride and the LGBTQ EQuality movement here and around the World.!.
A very interesteing doco. Sadly society's bigotry and repression just move from one minority group to another. Listen to some of the historical footage in this film and exchange 'homosexual' for 'paedophile' or 'hebephile' and it's amazing how exactly the same hate speech still carries on today. And no, I'm not advocating or excusing child molestation, but hating people because of their sexuality is as wrong today as it was back then.
is the any trans representation in this film? Or don't we exist again. Why was one of the most well know rioters/demonstrators, who is trans not honoured at the premier as others were? Just a question. Apparently she had to stand in cue with everyone else. Very much the elephant in the room.
Can't wait to see it. Hope the next generation of LGBTQ activists sees it as well. It was astonishing how many of the young among those who rose up after the Prop 8 fiasco hadn't ever heard of Stonewall -- on that awesome June evening when our whimpering ceased and our roar found its resonance as New Yorkers took a stand for the global genetic Gayaspora and claimed our sovereignty as a people delivered.
I think it's time for another Stonewall uprising! You think you've got a problem with "the Gays" now? Keep pushing this Republican Fear agenda and see what a bunch of pissed off Gays ( with money, organization, and media savvy) can do in 2010 that we couldn't do in the 60's! Take your best shot- truth and right will ALWAYS overcome fear and oppression!
38K die drug related deaths DEA cost us $600mil over the cost of ops when they get just under 4billion per year to keep the door open.90K kids die each day & we have a sex registry that kills people for having sex both DEA & the registry needs too be shut down for terror activity. CPS send child porn to get more action and the system is not what you think when you say pedophile that's a made up word 4 control of not only economics but breeding, religion & other intimate details of life, eugenics
@theshaggyshow how pathetic. You're so dim witted you don't have the brains to avoid displaying your teensy brain in public. Oh well, at least you can type somewhat efficiently. So you do have at least one good quality.
I would really love to see this, it got great reviews and I love to experience LGBT history (as unpleasant as it may be the truth is necessary). I wish this was playing somewhere close to where I live.
The modern gay rights movement actually started in Los Angeles in their bars, not in NYC. I don't understand why NYC and Stonewall gets all the credit. The first gay pride parade was also in Los Angeles.
Brilliant. I can't wait to watch it. Will this lead to changes in other countries where homosexuality is illegal? Maybe, maybe not. This is definitely one step forward though. I don't think anyone in the 60s would imagine that a movie would be released so we're getting there. Looking back, we should be proud of those people before us who made the acceptance we have now possible.
The uprising happened a few years before Earl and I, two American men, became a loving couple 34 years ago. We're married in Canada in 2003, but remain legal strangers across the USA.
Please, say it to the vatican and to the italian politicians !! Italian homos people is going to live at the same conditions of the trailer. A little Iran in the heart of Europe.
@mgztt I've been working on a letter to His "Holiness" himself and I am a Catholic who believes homosexuality is acceptable. I am doing it in a professional way to try and persuade him to at least not speak out against homosexuals if he won't change his oppinion. I wish I knew Italian otherwise I would send something to Italy to. A letter in English from an American will probably be highly disregarded.
@thenewenglandredneck Thank you very much, Matthew. Unfortunately I'm sure he won't change his opinion on this matter, neither on many others very important for the social development of italian society.
This is terrific -- even just the trailer. I look forward to seeing the movie.
We have gained such a level of acceptance in the last 40 years that it is sometimes hard to remember just how bad things were. I want young people, gay and straight to see this and get an idea of what it was like, and how we worked and fought to change it.
Does anybody know who it is that's holding the speech in the beginning of the trailer?

A must see for all.
Become an activist don't just sit and watch!
We still need to do so much together to change the attitudes that force our loved ones to the brink of suicide. No more deaths!
