I Have one big question. I have made chainsaw rc car with 27Mhz 2channel controll system. when engine not running,my controlls working just perfect, but then i start my engine,my controll system goes crazy! pushing gas and turns into left or right... Why? i think engine magnet disturbing my controlls work? did i need a 2.4Ghz controlls? what controll system you are using? Please answer me.Thanks.
Nice work. Maybe you should have to change the springs in the clutch so that it engages at an higher rpm . I would like very much to see the car jumping and behaving on a proper track.
WoW! That gotta b the weakest chainsaw engine I have ever seen in my entire life. They probably make electric chainsaw motors more powerful than that.
@hairyalien Thanks. Yes I tried to make them a little bit lighter and got each shoe from 34 grams to 30 g. Unluckily the difference in RPM before engagement is very small in my opinion. I'll make a new video out of it soon..
As I finished this car years ago I filled the shocks with some citroen hydraulics oil that has been there ever since. I think the shock absorbing is a bit too soft with that oil.
@idefix26 That's true, it would need an automatic gearbox.
Engine characteristic? Well i don't have any accurate data about this but it is basically a Stihl MS260 chainsaw engine with a tuned pipe. The car weights ca. 45kgs.
ill be like everyone else and agree thats its a complete masterpeice, something like a small chainsaw engine would woek perfectly for what i want to build, is there any other small petrol powered engines that would be good for an rc car?
Wow man that's awesome work you have done here. I love home made large scale RC and this one is serious business. Keep up the good work ! The build pics are very nice.
Very nice car man!! I have a video of my Chainsaw powered rc car i made, check it out if you like. Your car is very well crafted, you have great metal working skill. Servo Power is a concern when the car is heavier.5 STARS !!!!
well.. to connect a big motor to the receiver you need a hacked servo and an h-bridge circuit which gives power to that big motor. the h-bridge is basically an amplifier. it transforms those little currents that spin a regular rc servo into a big current capable of turning big motors. this is the best i can explain of it.. and sure you can build something similar if you are motivated and you have experience in metal working. it cost me about 500e to build
Now what are you exactly asking here.. You can see the mechanical part of the steering and braking on build pics. The big black thing is the wiper motor I use for the steering. For the brakes and throttle there is a large Turnigy servo. Some of the steering electronics is also explained on youtube comments.
I use a custom build servo for steering. It's made of a windscreen wiper motor and an H-bridge to power it. The control signal for this H-bridge comes from a standard rc servo which has its own motor removed. The steering mechanism itself is very simple. The steering arms of both front wheels are joined directly to an arm on the wiper motor shaft.
im making one out of a chain saw and its a truck with those 2 for $9 tires at lowes i might use some sand paddle tires. i have the servos reciver remote all i nee is a chain saw but i know where to get a used one for very little

@tubefed420 That is a tuning pipe made for 50-80cc engines. I got it from a moped store.

willaa303 1 year ago
Hey mate, love your car.
Just went through all the build pics - very nice.
I see you drilled some holes in the clutch shoes to make them lighter.
Am working on a couple of large RC cars myself and am thinking about doing the same thing to get a bit more RPM before engagement.
Did you notice a big difference fom drilling those holes?
Also saw that you made shocks from old gas struts.
I started making some but haven't finished them yet.
What oil are you using in them?
hairyalien 1 year ago
@hairyalien Thanks. Yes I tried to make them a little bit lighter and got each shoe from 34 grams to 30 g. Unluckily the difference in RPM before engagement is very small in my opinion. I'll make a new video out of it soon..

@willaa303
Cool.
One more question: what's the gear ratio?
I think you might need to gear it a bit lower to make the engine rev out more.
2-stroke engines love to go at full revs.
Keeps them cooler too.
.
hairyalien 1 year ago
@hairyalien The gear ratio is now somewhere around 9,4:1. I've changed the rear sprocket once to a bigger one but it seems that it wasn't enough.
