that depends, if you're talking about arabs in the past, perhaps, but do remember they were defeated by 300 spartans aswell.
Arabs in the present are no better than Christians during the time of the crusades, wiping out great cultures like the Aztecs and forcing diversed pagan groups like norse to convert.
All in all, arabs are past their glory days, and Aztecs were the first civilization to invent the zero.
and the spartans didn't win either, the greeks won the war after the 300 died, then later on thebes conquered sparta, it was on history channel last month
300 spartans fought against Persians, not arabs. Do not underestimate arabs, they had the greatest Warrior and leaders like Khalid bin Valid, Salahaddin al Ayubi, Sultan Baybars
Saladin didnt fight for "Arabs" he fought for Islam as did Baybars. Large areas they both ruled were populated by Turks and Kurds (Not to mention Armenians, Greeks and Persians)
Baybars was a Mamaluk, most of his army and court were Turks or Circassians. Syria is also populated by Kurds and Turks. Both men ruled a vast amount of land (Not just Egypt or Syria) That included a vast array of races and creeds.
To say Saladin fought for "Arabs" is about as daft as saying King Richard fought in the Crusades for "England" as opposed to for the Cross.
Saladin was 100% not Arab. You can argue if he was a Turk or a Kurd if you like but Arab he certainly wasn't.
The Mamluk means a slave, there were no nationality named "Mamluk". They were chosen from all over the world (especially from central asia and caucasia) when they were still kids and grown as warriors, just like Janissaries! You can't say Egypt is not an arabian country just because it had been rulled by Mamluks sometimes or if Syria was poulated by turks, kurds then it's turkish or kurdish country! Listen I am not arabian and not trying to convince you to believe in me.
And the Janissaries were not Turks! I didnt say Egypt was not an Arab country (Linguistically it is, ethnically it certainly is not) Its not an issue of convincing anyone these are just simple irrefutable facts.
Bilal was not an Arab, Salman was not an Arab. They may have lived and died in Arabia but it doesnt change the fact that they were simply not Arab!
I think i have to go off top in order to explain my positon. Ok here... Man do you watch football? Zidane is ethnic arab, but everybody in the world knows him french! No one cares if he has algerian roots, he played for France and won the World Cup for France, not for Algeria. So did Baybars and Salahaddin, they didn't hold Kipchak or Kurdish flags while fghting, they charged with arab flags! is that now clear? :D
They held Islamic flags in the Arabic language not "Arab" ones (Or Turkish or Kurdish ones for that matter). So as Tunisia and Algeria have a crescent on their flags (Which is an old Turkish symbol that didnt even appear in the Middle East until the Mamaluks) Does that make themTurkish states?
The world knows Zidane as a French Arab. The fact that he played for France doesnt alter the fact that he is an Arab.
@Makharbal Here you go agian with your Arab crap. Zidan is not an ARab or Franch, he is an AMazigh(Berber) from kabylie in Algeria. Moroccans, ALgerians,Tunisians, Libyans are NOT Arabs but Imazighen(Berbers0 soem of them speak an ARabic-Berber dialect and others Tamazight(berbers0. Get lost with your stupid ARabic fascist nationalism.
Linguistically you are correct, socially and culturally you are also correct Egyptians are indeed Arab but ethnically, they are probably more Turkish/African than Arab.
I just noticed some comments that underestimates arabians in the past, that's why wanted to give some examples of arabian leaders! No matter what interest (extension of islam or any other) they might have fought for, hey still remain arabians, and thats the point! peace!
No sorry they were not "Arabians" Never considered themselves as such and no historian past or present (Aside from the Arab nationalists) Have ever considered them otherwise.
I do not deny the fact that they fought for Islam, but if we look back to what I wrote at the beginning u'll see that I was on something different. They fought in favour of Islam yes, but they'd been representing Syria, Egypt which are supposed to be counted as arab countries! And i didn't compare France with the middle East of medieval ages, already regretted of that, i should've known u'll mix it up :P anyway, say u won :D. p/s: I know Kipchaks are turks, cuze i'm a descendant of Kipchaks!
doesnt muslims consider all muslims no matter what ethnicity, one nation under allah???so your argument is useless, they were all muslims, they were one nation, period...
@Makharbal The people you call Arabs weren't Arabs at all, they were MUSLIMS of DIFFERENT ORIGINE. The Muslims scientist where MAINLY PERSIANS and NOT Arabs. Then you had also NORTH AFRICAN MUSLIMS like the EGYPTIANS and the GREAT BIG BERBER NATIONS. So you ARab bedouins can me fool westerners with your stupid ARab fairy tales but not US MUSLIMS who are NOT Arabs. O yes one more thing Salahaddin al Ayubi was NOT an Arab but a KURD. I am sick of you Arabs hijacking MUSLIM Heritage.
Because he was done. He was going to slow down his boys if he tried to keep up with them so he figured he's stay and fight the enemy and slow them down instead.A very very noble deed. Their is no better way to die than to give your life for your friends, and there is no better day to die than during a great battle. "Today was a great day" See you in the halls of Valhalla.

Your analogy with France and the medieval middle east is inaccurate as there was simply no concept of statehood and nationalism at that time.
Try reading any of Saladins contemporary biographers not one mention of him fighting for "Arabs" but rather for Islam.
