FFXI on Asus Eee PC 901 3G

This is really starting to piss me off- I have an Eee pc 1000HE, and I can't seem to even get the external disc drive (nexstar DX from Vantec) to read the installation disc, much less get the thing on my HDD. I black window opens for about half a second then closes it's self. I tried updating the usb 2.0 drivers, said they were up to date. My eee pc has 2 gigs of ram and a 600 Gig HDD (my step dad added some things) with an Intel Atom processor. Why will this stupid thing not see the disc?!

are you overclocking have you upgraded the ram at all? i got my eee pc yesterday and im up to 2gigs of ram and overclocked to 2.05 ghz

Are you using the integrated Intel GMA 900 graphics?

Yeah. Right now I'm running it trough a 16GB SD memory card. Runs fine, but don't expect high fps.
