This piece, played at Tchaikovsy Hall by a Russian orchestra will speak to your soul. It is amazing, you can hear the violins weeping. If this music does nothing for you, then you are infact lost to God and the Universe and soulless!
@CrippledPotato there are versions in different key signatures, so your music teacher isn't necessarily wrong. generally the composer or another musician changes the key many times to try out different sounds and moods
I agree - the best version out there. Just breathtakingly beautiful. The funny thing is I used to have it but I went and lost it. Does anyone happen to know the name of the orchestra? I can't find it anywhere. Thanks.
Okay, yeah, this is just lovely. I'll second the general inquiry - who performed this? I'd love to find it to listen to repeatedly!
(Incidentally, do any of you happen to know of a performance of this which features a bit greaer bass instruments on the first couple of lines? First couple of lines of the 'tempo di valse' part, I mean :) )
The viola part is fantastic in this piece, as well. Not as showy as the violin part, yet it really shows off the viola depth like very few other classical pieces do.

Sucks that the video cuts it off, though. There's another 1:10 to go.

This was on a Sony/CBS Essential Classics CD. It's the Munich Philharmonic conducted by Rudolf Kempe.
Sony paired it with Dvorak's 9th, performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy.
If you can find it on the used market, get it.

This is the best performance of this piece that I've heard!

Why did you cut it off? It's a crying shame and absolutely anathema to do so with any great piece. After all, who'd like coitus interruptus?

@grinreaperdutchphil I feel the same. It's a wonderful piece and they play it really well.

can someone please tell me what orchestra played this version? or where i can get it?

Yes, Dvorak played viola himself, so viola parts in his pieces are fantastic... but hard to play... own experience...
