I just saw them last Wednesday at B.B.King in NYC they put on a fantastic show. I cannot believe how talented and nice all 3 of them are. It was a true pleasure
Oh my goodness....you all sound so great ! Really such a treat ! This song makes me happy...loved it when I was a kid...and still do ! Good for three ! Awesome voices...true talent !
Love the harmonies! Such talent is oh, so rare these days. If I had kids, I'd introduce them to this sort of thing, just so they could start with a higher standard.
Fantastic version! I loved this song as a child just starting to check out AM radio and still love it. Seems that no matter how much time passes, often the original performers of a song still seem to have the magic and talent. Echos of this sound still resonate strongly in music today.
Wow, not often I get the same vibe as the original despite a drastically different mix and line up but this is actually really cool in my humble opinion. Good stuff...
I know you out there in You Tube land are going to think I'm crazy but I remember this song like it was yesterday I had just met my cousins girlfriend she was twenty something i was I think i was 9 I had my first grow up male feeling. Thats all I,m going to say. But I'll never forget this song.
@ToniMattTony One of the very best of our past.................. it lives on because of it's simple loving touch. Our very gentle, loving nature................... Long Live, and love the Cowsills.............. and their message
The Cowsills were a group that had all those hits when i was a teenager and i never thought much of them but now as i come across all their stuff here on you tube i recognise just how wonderful their talent was/is.
This clip is wonderful.
I feel sad that they lost one of their own during the Katrina tragedy.
@kiwigirl49 For a family group, the Cowsills were far more talented than Partridge family. The Cowsills had a show on TV too, if I recall. BTW, is your middle name Jane, by any chance?
just goes to show what raw talent these three have......only accoustic guitars...no bass, not even drum/brushes for backup......sounded great even though they lost two brothers over the last couple of years !
The Cowsills have always been awesome. I have loved their music since I was a kid. I am glad to see they are performing again. This song was wonderful when it was a hit back in the 1960s, featuring a lot of nice effects like a harp and keyboards to accompany the vocals. It is also fantastic here, where they are doing it themselves, accmpanied by their own acoustic guitars. Thanks for posting this :)
The Cowsills have always been awesome. I have loved their music since I was a kid. I am happy to see that they are performing again. This is a beautiful song.
WOW WOW WOWWWW SO GOOD SUCH A TALENT EVEN AFTER OF THESE YEARS, A REAL ALL AMERICAN FAMILY WE MUST APPRECIATE AND GIVE A PRAYER FOR AS WELL AS TO SEE IF WE CAN HELP IN ANY WAY COME ON PEOPLE, THIS IS WHAT MAKES AMERICA GREAT. GOD B
I've been looking fir the Cowsills for years.I remember when they first came on the scene in the 60's when I was 8 or 9yrs old in N.Y.The boys were so cute (before the Olsmonds Brothers),We all loved them. Thanks for posting them. Now to find out what they are doing!!
Absolutely AMAZING - forty years later and only just two acoustic guitars for accompaniment and I'd give this performance a perfect 10. Too bad they don't do more television.
God I love the Cowsills! I have listened to them from the beginning and to me they got ripped off. They deserved the partridge family TV show cuz they were and still are the real deal! I love you folks and the memory of those lost. God Bless
Brother Billy Cowsill, the most talented sibling, sang lead on the original. Unfortunately he'd already passed away from health issues before this video was made. Of the seven original members (including their mother), only these three still perform as the "Cowsills". Another brother is part of the Beach Boys Touring band, two other brothers, including Billy, are deceased, & there was one other brother who never performed with the group.
Really showing my age here, but I can remember the Cowsills playing on a show called, "Operation Entertainment," which featured different acts performing for GI's during the Vietnam era. Only saw the show once, don't think it lasted too many episodes. Thanks for the post!! This song has a lot of sentimental value.
Great stuff! Great live vocals! Always loved them. Saw them in Atlantic City NJ when I was just 7 years old. (and my sister got John's autograph.) So sad that Bill and Barry are gone.
Barry Cowsill died in 2005 in the flooding aftermath of Katrina. Bill Cowsill died in 2006. Susan has her own band. Bob, Susan and Paul still do appearances as "The Cowsills". John occassionally plays with them as well as drums for the Beach Boys. He's married to Vicki Peterson...founding member of the Bangles.
@obolan Please let me know what Bill Cowsill died of if you know. I bought the 45 of this classic song, Indian Lake, and Hair. I wished their mother would have allowed them to play themselves on the TV show, The Partridge Family instead David Cassidy and their back up band. I remember when The Cowsills, pictures where in the teen magazines and when they were on the top record charts! It brings back my childhood memories of the psychedelic period in pop music in the late 1960s that was Boss!
Bill died of complications from emphysema, Osteoporosis and some other ailment, one of the other brothers perished in Hurricane Katrina, I lived near New Orleans at the time and I couldn't believe the news, it took them a couple of months to find his body, I didn't even know he was living in the area.
SO COOL THAT MR. RICK SPRINGFIELD POSTS HERE TOO! LOVED "JESSIE'S GIRL" RICK!! I too remember The Cowsills on the cover of all the Teen mags like 16 & Tiger Beat. Here in Toronto, Canada, I don't know if they had as much radio play, but I knew from the magazines that they were the inspiration for the Partridge Family Tv show. They all look so much alike! Hey SimonPeter I'm sure there are many like us who feel this way. Too bad peace only works if EVERYONE gives it a chance - too many lunatics on the planet have a big thirst for power & control. I just let the music take me there.

I actually like this version better than the original. Such an amazing sound for 3 singers and only acoustic guitar. Great harmonizing-something sadly missing from today's music.
The excellent cawsills make me remember another similar group that was very successful in Brazil in the same season and was called "The youngest son" (Os Caçulas)that were simply amazing with his songs like "The rain that falls"(A chuva que cai) and "For you" (Prá Você) -and can be found here on you tube - in my favoritos (LittleJohnJobhy)and others. Wonderful! Good time ...
Fantastic! Simply wonderful! Glad that the group still on toast with your wonderful music live. It causes me a sweet mixture of melancholy and nostalgia and miss (saudades)a time increasingly distant, that never come again (oh, oh!).
That was just truly awesome. I always have thought the Cowsills were extremely underrated and oh boy,, do these three still got in today! Thank you so much for the post.. truly made my day.
It's so funny and strange that even though it's only acoustic guitars, I can still faintly hear all the other instruments being played. Just my memory of the original recording. I will watch this 10 times a day! I'm in love with Susan!
I agree with everyone- this is very nicely done. Although sadly only one of the original voices who recorded this song in 1967 is present here- Bob Cowsill. Paul and Susan joined the group after this song had already been recorded. Of the original singers only two are still alive (Bob & John) with Billy, Barry, and mom Barbara all deceased.
I saw them in concert , my 1st concert, Nov. 1967, WOW! I remember Bill jumping up and down in his purple Jeans, the rest of the family pretty much stayed in one spot.. Still its great to see, Bob , Paul, and Susan cont, Wish John could step away from The Beach Boys and do a short tour with them.
I'm impressed. I watch videos of other groups past their prime and it makes me shudder. They guys put it out there almost acapella and they sound pitch perfect. I want to see them.
Am I only seeing what I want to see ..? Or, since Utube, it seems that there is a new found intrest in the Cowsills. This generation is discovering them ..and... liking them. Such increadable background harmonies. (Dare I compre them to the 5th Dimension or America?)
A lot of family tradegy. A brother dies the night before his late bros memorial celebration.
NY think they would make a gr8 movie subject? Just an idea.
Bob plays the Pickwick Pub on Ventura Blvd. this Friday night!!! Woo-Hoo!

Billy Cowsill was in a great country rock band called "The Blue Shadows" They put out 2 critically acclaimed albums and toured Canada from 93 to 96.
Video from their O.O.P. (out of print) albums on YouTube now. (see video response jedbundy above)
Enjoy!

The Cowsills still have the magic! Check out their song 'Is It Any Wonder'...it's one of the 10 best songs of the 90s!

"Was she reality, or just a dream to me?"
If you can remember the 60's you weren't there.
The Cowsills were there. And they sound and look great in this video. What more could one ask? Thanks for posting it, my friend.

It's so funny and strange that even though it's only acoustic guitars, I can still faintly hear all the other instruments being played. Just my memory of the original recording. I will watch this 10 times a day! I'm in love with Susan!

John needs to stop being a wanna be Beach Boy and play with The Cowsills. This is a excellent version.

The Florence Henderson Show? What was that?

Thanks for posting this gr8 new post.
They still can hit their notes.
