@Flyyyy...I agree with the last comment "depends on how you use it." I believe that any sport can make you a better all around athlete. My son is a football player and I try to teach him to incorporate all sports to make him the best football player. Volleyball can help you stay low, jumping, and timing. Basketball helps with footwork, endurance, etc. Swimming can help with endurance. Soccer can help with foot work and endurance, etc.
Can anyone help me. I'm having a hard time seeing how this training translates to the football field. Do any players throw (extend) their arms more than 2-3 times per play, followed by a 25 second rest period.?
Should we not be training energy systems properly to mimic game situations?
@Flyyyy Depends how its used. You obviously wouldnt want to replace bench press with this drill, I'm sure they use it as a "finisher" to work endurance towards the end of a workout. Could be useful for overall conditioning, toughness, or specific movement training for some positions (handfighting in the interior line).
@acebassoon It does seem to me that a majority of today's strength and conditioning coaches are moving towards more exotic forms of training and moving away from an emphasis on the more traditional types of training. Only time will tell if the newer more exotic forms of training are actually benefiting today's athletes over the traditional methods. I personally emphasize overall strength, joint mobility and stamina, traditional lifts seem to work for my guys.
@Flyyyy it has a lot to do with football blocking u gotta use hands and arms stiff arms in football to keep defenders away it also strengthens your arms and hands to catch and hold on tighter to the ball every workout you do counts in a physical sport like football

That's an interesting method. Builds arm strength and endurance. I'm going to remember this one.
