The top impeller is slower - it's job is to brake up the top layer of snow so as to feed the bottom impella - it being smaller dia. compared to the bottom impeller it does not pull as much snow so the bottom impeller being larger dia. moves twice the snow being twice the size - this is a single stage unit not a 2 stage.,

I think the top one moves slow because all it needs to do is break up the snow and then it falls to the bottom one. Its better having a slow moving one than a non-moving one.

Is that like a hybrid 2 stage or something? Top auger rotates slow, bottom fast... is the bottom also throwing the snow out the shoot, or it there a rotating blower behind the augers? Very cool nonetheless....
