Unfortunately, no. Since they've been working on her for 13 years and almost 1.6 million dollars has been spent and no luck. I do wish they could've sent #1361 to Strasburg, and someone could pay it all, etc. sadly it won't happen, but at least we get to have her on a display and not scrapped.
@kickflip1234100 Yep, you can't beat a well-tuned Pennsy whistle! If you liked this sound, watch my other video "PRR I1sa Running Light", especially around the 2:23 mark when it gets further away and the echos get more pronounced....haunting and beautiful. If you've got good speakers, listen to it real loud....trust me.
one word to describe the old Pennsy whistles: "mournful". i remember hearing those dulcet tones in the distance as a child, late at night, when the trains would pass a half mile from our house.
@abrownyo I went to Steamtown about 6 years ago and i took the shop tour, and I remember seeing the K-4's frame up on a suspension frame. The wheels were all over the shop and a mechanic was welding part of the smokestack.
@tachikoma747 I don't know, but it probably would be hard to do in their facilities. The K4 is a huge engine and by huge I mean monstrous. Also, their tracks probably aren't suited for its weight and it is very very very hard to keep a K4 with 80 inch drivers and superheaters under 30 miles an hour. Also, contracts probably would get in the way too.
@tachikoma747 - more like a few years, since SRR has their hands full with other projects, such as an ex- LIRR G5 4-6-0... and that engine is undergoing the same firebox repairs 1361 was supposed to have...
Goosebumps...
