Vietnam was occupied for long time by France and Japan..They had just liberated themselves and there was going to be democratic election where 80% would vote for pro-communist political party..There was backward and tyrannic governor of the South not very popular for the Vietnamese..who was loosing power..So USA sent invading force because it was afraid it is loosing control and influence..For Vietnamese people it was war for Independence and Liberation..so they won against the odds..

Well, being part native american, I take offense to that analogy. Actually, I'm not. Point is that we've moved on from that backwards thinking...but still have our balls. We're not in Iraq for the oil. Matter of fact, we're making it a point not to get a drop. All of the oil is sold to other countries, and then the revenue is being used to rebuilding Iraq. That I can tell you I've seen from my own two eyes.

It was actually funding which lost you Vietnam, im glad you can recognise that you lost. To pielaqua, with all due respect to the vets and kias from the Vietnam War, they were not involved in a war which directly effected your country, ie. they werent preserving your freedom, so your comment is useless on a video documenting a war such as this. Songs like this make me laugh which promote a false war, especially if the country uses a draft system. History will repeat itself in Iraq for the USA.

The logic behind Vietnam was the Domino Theory. If one country fell to communism, the rest in the region would, as well. And if Worlf War III were to have broken out between the US and the USSR, that'd be one more region in favor of the Soviets, and make it all that much harder to win.

There are less than 1,000,000 in-country Vietnam veterans as of US Census 2000. If you consider the death of in-country Vietnam Veterans between 1995 - 2000 remaining Vietnam veterans days are out numbered. Thanks to Agent Orange, drug experiments, and living conditions in the battlefield. Vietnam has taken a toll on our lives and the most we can expect is to be treated for our medical ailments.

shore2222 still no answer to question, who explains the truth to them in a way they can understand, i never said no war ever but vietnam was a costly lesson & eventually fell anyway. Now a generation later we blindly follow a gung ho trigger happy simpleton into war for weapons of mass destruction that still haven't been found & to find Osama Bin Laden but we let all his relatives fly home by special presidential arrangement 3 days after 9/11. war & no common sense behind it. well it looks like those with a gung ho attitude and blinkers on are unfortunately still alive and well. My father survived relatively intact. But when those children ask mother (father) when is (daddy) mommy coming home does the government that sent them off to die explain where their parent is? Can they explain how thousands of innocent civilians raped murdered and blown to pieces is fighting for freedom? Or are the senator too busy looking at the balance sheets of the arms manufactureres?

So then they'll die at home and not only will they die but millions of American civilians will too. Our soldiers know that. Actually in a survey from (I wanna say 2004) 75% percent of Vietnam vets are glad they fought in Vietnam and another 67% said they would go back after the Fall of Saigon in 1975.

F.Y.I. Our kill ratio in Vietnam was like 10 to 1. We kicked those fucking gooks asses. The only thing that made us look like we lost was all those fucking antiwar hippies and public opinion that didnt like the idea of taking heavy G.I. causualties. Well thats fucking war people. People die in war. That and that we just packed up shit up and left.

So tragic the myths of abuse to our returning soldiers continue after all these years. I worked day and night to stop the nightmare war on Vietnam AND did all I could to bring our soldiers home. So many of my friends and family served there and, despite the distortions, those who worked to stop the war did so to help our soldiers, never to dishonor them.
And you know it. So why the lies? Haven't all of us suffered enough?
