nice! oatmeal is one of my favorite breakfasts :) I also eat it for dinner occasionally - I posted a video of a really yummy version I made for dinner when I was traveling in Turkey.
My local supermarket charges almost 8 bucks a lb for steel cut oats so I buy it from an amish general store that sells bulk items they charge 58 cents a lb. Also I soak them overnight so they cook up just as fast as regular oatmeal the next morning.
while making oatmeal is cool, if your ON A BUDGET and dont want to spend like 30 dollars on indergrents, then quakers quick oatmeal is good if your on the run, but this is still good
You should just use Quaker oats cause they don't take 25 minutes to cook and you can have them freshly made, when you put it in the refrigerator and then microwave them I think it really destroys the flavor.
Quaker oats of any type are not "processed", nothing about it has been "altered" or added to it at all. It is just a physical difference - they are not any less nutritious than Irish Oatmeal at all. Rolled oats are only rolled and quick is onoy rolled and cut. Irish oatmeal only takes longer to cook. As long as the maple syrup says 100% pure, it is...no matter what the shape of the package or container. This is my understanding.
The only problem with steel cut oatmeal for me, is that it takes a LOT longer to cook than rolled oats. When you don't have a lot of time in the morning, this isn't ideal. But I always use steel cut oatmeal on the weekends though.
You can make steel cut oats very simply a day ahead of time. Put them in the microwave with water and bring them to a boil. I always use the same bowl and same amount of oats and water and I microwave for exactly 6 min. I don't stand there, but just let them cook. They just come to a boil, but do not boil over. Then don't refrigerate them, but reheat them in the same bowl the next day (3 min. exactly). This is not cooking cause you aren't standing there, but doing something else.

it was all good except the Microwave, Microwave is a bad idea, it kills everything that you could think of.

The reason the steal cut ones are healthier is because they contain the whole grain, its ment to be good for the heart and lowering colestoral.
All oats are healthy, but the whole grain ones are even better for the health:)
