If any drug is a gateway it's alcohol. Think about it. It's legal, it's readily available & it's widely accepted with no stigma attached. People don't expose your kids to any drugs. I was strung out on heroin for 6 years. Pure misery.

Marijuana addiction doesn't depend on how much you use or smoke but the consequences it has on your life.
You may be fine, and your lifestyle isn't affected by your habit, but there are people out there who are addicted to it. If any habit screws up your romantic, professional lives and your health. And you do not want to stop. That is an addiction.
