I got a kitten a few months ago and called it CURTIS after Ian!
Me & the mrs were on our way to see the kitten and were debating what to call it, then, in the car on the way there, I just decided to put on Joy Division and then when we parked the car, we randomly parked next to a van which said CURTIS on the side, so there u have it.
He's about 5 months old now and still awesome, just like his Namesake!!
No, its the Bowdon Vale Club near Altrincham - you can tell by the wallpaper! And the audio is taken from the Bowdon Vale bootleg, as the 8mm film would have been silent.
ive known about this proformance (from here youtube) but where did this come from? is it on the "here are the young ,men" dvd? dam this is just brilliant!
The Joy Division sound is still fresh/unique/amazing after all these years...and no one can recreate it even though plenty musicians had tried to w/o luck!!
I love him!!!Since I first listened to their songs(poems really....)they have become my fav band...music makes me shiver..lyrics touch me like nthg has ever b4...his voice brings tears in my eyes..pity he had to leave this world so young...RIP Ian...
Ian Curtis era un poeta infeliz pero el mas grande de todos , salia a caminar por el parke y tenia gran corazon . le llego la fama muy rapido , el solo buscaba a Dios , este testimonio deja presente mi gran admiracion .
As a 21 year old fan, it's not like I ever got to see them, but by God I would give anything to have seen them live at least once, even it was only a two song set!
You lucky b"%$rd, I've just been reading Deborah's book and read about that performance in Bouremouth, I'm 25 so wsn't even alive but if I could go back in time...
I thought their talent quotient was pretty low, and their hype quotient pretty high, in 1979. 30 years later they appear even less talented than I thought, and their hype, thanks to that equally bad movie about Ian Curtis, now being peddled by 50 year olds who see in clips like this, a reminder of their utterly vanished youth.
Every once in a while I get into an argument with a music fan who just doesn't 'get' that rock and roll isn't all about the melody and chords. Guys like that look at this video, see Bernard playing one chord slowly moving up the fret, and declare:
"Talentless and boring"
You cannot explain colour, mood, tempo, timber and groove to people like that. They will never get why the Ramones or Joy Division were brilliant.
@leeraconteur Gods, tell me about it. I still can't talk to my old "classic rock" bandmates about punk rock. Yet at the same time it's hard for me to put my finger on exactly WHAT makes the likes of Styx, Green Day,etc. utterly unbearable. Obviously to someone like me they are stupid pop bands, but what is it that truly makes it unbearable? Styx is pretty easy, but isn't Green Day allegedly a punk band? And yet I have no trouble listening to the tight pop of Big Star. Taste, eh? a mystery.
Is this the Bowdon Vale Youth Club?..I know it says a pub in Altrincham but judging by the flock wallpaper it would appear to be footage from the youth club gig.
This is awesome!!! The only thing I can ever score is some homemade vids with STILL tracks attached. Ahh...Just like Preston, with all the intensity included! Thanks again
In 1985 i bought a JD live vhs it was the only thing available("here are the young men").The footage is of very poor quality,THIS however is a truly hidden jem.THANK YOU.
It's amazing how different their records are from their live performances. It's cool how they were so flexible with their producer, but also that their fans were so welcoming to the difference between their live stuff and their records. Can you imagine seeing these guys play at your corner pub? Wow.
This is brilliant, you see werkhed your problem must be you don't see all music as an expressive art its not the quality of the playing sometimes but more the quality of expression yeah the Beatles and Pink Flyod are good to some people but not to all people, to some people bands like einsturzende nebauten can be the beatles to some people so, before you rant about how bad a band is to you, you should listen to a wider variety of music to hear what's really good. joy division fans stay strong!
Someone singing she loves you yeah yeah yeah in a silly scouse accent does not maketh great art in my eyes as does some guy spouting sixth form poetry about despair in a deadpan voice with his mates who can barely play their instruments. Sorry but I think music fans have been taken in since the 1950s first with rock n roll and all the way along through prog, punk, new wave or whatever you label it.
what a sad refletion of human behaviour that people pretend to themselves that this is serious art. Some talentless blokes who c'ant sing or play. i could name a million others from the beatles to pink floyd. wake up people to this con!!
You clearly know nothing about art. Pink Floyd bores the living hell out of me. This is real emotional music that captures. Atmosphere is one of the most chilling songs I've ever heard. Art is something that captures emotions. That does this for the people who love it.
ok now i respect both pink floyd and the beatles but callin them talentless is rediculous. not only is this has to be the greatest punk group, they revoultionized music more than u would know. the lyrics of these songs are thought provocing and chilling and just the bands story alone is enought to become a fan
The only thing that is truly sad is your inability to appreciate art. To say you don't enjoy this music is one thing, but to write off "a million others from the beatles to pink floyd" and refer to them as a con is just pitiful really. Especially considering you went out of your way to watch the video and comment on it. Perhaps you're just jealous due to your own limitations.
