  • 65mph is a lot safer than you think pussy

  • When 80% of the drivers are going 50-60 MPH it sounds like they have the speedlimit WAY too low... it's basically a speedtrap, aka cash maker for the state.

  • 45 MPH on such a long bridge is silly, now not saying it needs to be raised to super lengths but it could stand a speed boost. How about 55 - 60 for autos and 45 - 50. That seems reasonable, and it's very unfair if almost everyone is going 60 - 65 to just pick someone to pull over and make an example of them. Then I bet if someone was going 40 -45 they would block the flow of traffic, total crap.

  • I drive the bridge every week day, The speed limit was lowered years ago after a head on collision.

  • i thought if you went 7 miles over the speed limit you would get a ticket, but over four miles over the speed limit. i go 65 in a 60 and nothing happens

  • it'd be a real shame if a car careened off and hit that fucking asshole. I love how they play it off like they are stopping speeders to make things safer, really they just need to fill their monthly quota.

  • If you hit anything at the same speed, its not double moron. If I'm in a car as a passenger and I slap another passenger's head while the car is going 70 mph (thus the passengers inside are travelling 70 mph) it won't be equivalent to 70 mph.

Even if the two cars would be traveling in opposite directions in a crash, it would only be a 70 mph crash, not a 140 one, as proven on mythbusters.

  • It is not equivalent to a 140mph crash

It makes me sad that most people don't know basic physics

  • Dodge Viper! 0:09

  • So you can't go too fast or too slow. LoL

  • *cough* get a jammer *cough*

  • 70 hitting 70 is NOT the same as 140 mph. Check the law of physics.

  • @duallydriver2: not on a HEAD ON.

  • @lukebccb Oh yes, law of physics one speed cancels the other speed. Sounds nuts and everyone beleives the speeds are doubled, but it's not.

  • How come the CHP has a different uniform?

  • @Japcat21 cuz its a different department. ever department has a different uniform

  • @bloodfestpictures every**

  • I live in Canada, and the speed limit for a highway is 100 km, that would be about 60 mph I beileve. I think, never was good at math lol.

  • 45mph what a pansy people they are to allow themselves to be subjected to a law like that.

A similar road in Europe would have 60-70mph

  • I actually get better MPG at 75ish than I do anywhere around 50. My car has a six speed manual transmission and it bogs down the engine in 6th gear at 50MPH. I do obey the speed limits most of the time. Usally not more than +15. What I think the major problem is: poor highway condition and to many cars. Better mass transit and a bigger budget for our roads. Most roads in the US were built 30 years ago, some even more, like in the '50s.

  • Actually, best gas mileage overall for all cars is 55mph. When President Jimmy Carter was president, he instituted the speed limit to be 55 all across the nation in an effort to reduce smog/exhuast from cars. Obviously, that law is no longer valid nowadays.Point? 70 is not better mileage than 50.

  • @AznPwnageFTW: the 55mph law came into law under Nixon. Look it up.

  • @lukebccb Well then you stand correct my friend.

  • Last week I was walking across the bridge during rush hour and you could tell that almost 99% of the drivers on the bridge were speeding. Either they need to increase the speed limit or get more enforcement out there, because it could get nasty real fast. I think the former would be the better option, a highway needs at least a 55-60 mph limit.

  • @mrivera1 Actually, if you get a ticket and don't wish to pay it, you can actually go to court and say exactly that, that you don't think the speed limit there is appropriate. If a set percentage of drivers there are all going above the speed limit, then it's actually a law that the area's speed limit should be increased.

  • Wow, they need to get a show like this for Los Angeles.

  • Nobody is going to drive 45 mph on a wide open highway, and it's pretty fucking easy to handle a car at 65-70. That's hardly being an illegal racer. And you should learn how to calculate MPG.

  • Comment removed

  • There isnt always high density cars, and you are not considering realism, NOBODY IS GOING 45 MPH ON A LONG ASS BRIDGE. Thank you and have a nice day, buddy. The right lane is the only rational place for a speed limit of say, 55 because people are looking. Everyone else is just passing through.

  • Do you have any idea that 45 mph is a ridiculous speed limit for a four lane open road, let alone a fucking HIGHWAY?

  • I didn't realize it was 45 mph although I didn't drive on it. I did though video tape the bridge and they were certainly doing over 45 then.

  • The Driscoll Bridge on the Garden State Pkwy is like this, with the 45 limit. Except that the average speed of traffic is closer to 75. I simply cannot understand why the 'lawmakers' and police expect us to abide by these ridiculous limits (cmon, 45 is for a suburban two lane road, and often they're even 50-more in other states) especially when they put our lives in danger. I was doing 55-60 and got my doors blown off constantly.

  • no sense*

  • The sense is police mans stop cars for overspeeding that is a great sense because there is alot of wrecks because if there wasn't a speed limit there wasn't a speed limit imagine all the wrecks there would be!

  • Yep, there are tons of wrecks in Germany with no speed limit on their highway, actually there are less.

  • the other reason the bridge is at a speed limit of 45 mph because the median isn't a concrete barrier. a nine car accident happened on the bridge before

  • 45 is around what people do on a mid-level commercial two lane road generally, not on a highway. I can guarantee you that that accident happened because someone did something stupid. You're not supposed to set the limit 15 below what everyone is going, you're supposed to set the limit so its the limit. It just makes sense that people are getting hit with tickets for 20 over when they are going FIVE miles an hour faster than traffic?

  • Just a question for you, why don't you comment on the law possibly being wrong rather than people just behaving badly?

  • youre supposed to go with the flow of traffic but if you do you get busted for speeding? double standard much?

the lanes really aren't that much smaller. I'd agree it's a problem for huge vehicles to go fast but my compact car could do 80 safely here

  • So tell me then, what vehicle code section says you're supposed to "go with the flow of traffic"? If the flow of traffic happens to be 85 MPH on a 65 MPH freeway, does that make it okay for you to go 85 like everyone else? Try using that one in traffic court, and call me when you do. I want to see it.

  • Common sense says that you're supposed to go with the flow of traffic. Obstructing traffic is also against the law, which conflicts with speed limits because traffic is often going at least 10 over. I don't give a fuck what the bullshit legal system says, but yeah, going 85 when everyone is doing 85 is safer than doing 65. Hell, speed limits are worthless anyway.

  • You are supposed to set the speed limit to the 85th percentile. If the average speed of drivers is 60 the speed limit SHOULD be 70 for safety and traffic flow. Giving people 20 mph over tickets for 5 faster than the flow of traffic is STUPID.

  • So, is the portion of the roadway on either side of the bridge a freeway? I think 45 is too slow, but I guess with the lane alernation is the reason why. Just a guess.

  • The traffic lanes are much narrower than your average lanes, the outside lane is 11 feet and the inside lanes are 10 feet....the average highway lanes in California are 12 feet wide.

  • Well, that makes since then. That's the same here in Georgia for state highways, 12 foot lanes.

I hope the police cited that mobile home, that's very dangerous and causes people to act in erratic fashion, sometimes.

And, yeah, a good video once again.

  • I liked seeing the views of the bridge. I also like speeding. It is a hobby.

  • An expensive hobby!

  • @seanseanseanseansean do you get lots of tickets

  • who cares what the speed limit is, 45 is too low

  • i'd rather have them travel 35 than 70!

  • I'd rather have them travel 70 than 35!

  • cops cops cops!
