The flutes are kuisis (Gaita in Spanish) -- instruments of the indigenous Kogi of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Madra. Kogi would play them with maracas. Those instruments mixed with African drums, brought by African slaves, and the acordian could replace the kuisis (gaitas...hence 'gaiteros').

Timbaland sampled them, as performed in Curura - Toto la Momposina, in 'Indian Flute'. Without credit.
