  • I love how the National Weather Service bulletin is playing as his car is being destroyed.

"Tornado Warning and Severe hail are in the area..."

    NO SHIT!

  • Watch 1:02, now watch 2:34 XD

  • WHo Pissed Off The Golfers?

  • Hail is a bitch.

  • 1:50 The windshield is busted. (SMASH) aaahhhh!!! LMFAO

  • hey idiots show the dam car next time so we can see the damage

  • i saw this on Full Force Nature

  • might as well be some kids throwing rocks at ya. sounds and looks the same.

  • You guys should get bullet proof windows. Well worth the investment.

  • did the car break down like? like when u were in your car during the storm was it still running? and if the front windshield was all smashed why didnt u just kick it out?? so you dont have that glass coming in everytime the hail hits?

  • Look at the stone buried into the ground at around 0:12. Love this video Jim.

  • that guys in a pickle

  • lol at your groans

  • to bad the car got busted lol.

  • sounds like popcorn.

  • Aw I wanted to see your car afterwards

  • I thought I was going to be in this same situation when I was in Wakita, but thankfully I escaped and had no more hits after a stone cracked the extreme right side of my windshield. That's a helpless feeling when all that hail is coming down like that.

  • Very nice, though I'm glad you weren't hurt. I've seen baseballs once, in southern New England...which is rare.

  • I hate to think of what your insurance bill looks like these days Jim! This vid reminds me of your qoute from the show I-Witness Video "I want to see the grapefruit size hail you see out in these parts"

As always love your stuff, keep chasing!

  • get in the boot

  • As nasty as this is, if you were caught out in the open on the plains with no possible protection anywhere, it would be far worse. You'd be badly battered, or even dead. I've read a description written in the 1800s by a man who was in an open mule-drawn wagon in a storm like this, and how, when he and his friend finally got to a town afterwards, they looked as though they'd been severely beaten.

  • Your wind screen has some cracks

  • great footage Jim those baseball and softball size hail stones are no joke they do serious damage

  • "holy crap" moment at 2:53. big one near the rearview mirror. that could kill you. (or a real big fucking headache)

  • I live here, in Ogallala, and I can definitely attest to the weather here. I know they say in Colorado that if you don't like the weather, to just wait awhile, but... Nebraska is where it's at.

Year-round we have days where you go to work in the morning with the heat full-blast, and by the time you go home you've got the AC turned to the max.

  • @whitezeppelin I grew up in Ogallala. I live in central Ohio now, where I was sorry to witness weather even more bizarre than Nebraska. We had fog, rain, sleet, hail and snow within a 18-hour period. None of it lasted very long though. Didn't have to shovel the hail off the roads like in NE either.

  • Cool

  • this is crazy!!!

  • Thanks for filming, this was very satisfying to watch.

  • Gosh nature hates you :P

  • thats fucked up

  • how much in mph is the updraft to keep hail that big in a storm?

  • that must have been scary man!

  • insurance companys cover storm chasers? How do you go buy a new car and go out knowning its going to be totatled? Did you get all the money you paid for it or just what it was worth? I dont get why ppl storm chase with a stock car.

  • AAAHHHHH!!!

  • I know how you feel Jim, I had an 1989 Ford Probe i used to chase until i decided to core punch a storm and broke 3 out of the four windows on the car. I decided to cut my loss, get a new car and never core punch again. haha.

  • god i love this weather iv spent aall my life in tornado aley and just love this weather. infact im in Nebraska right now visitng my mom and dad, Im from Texas btw.

  • not sure what was scarier.... the hail or the freaking emergency broadcast message..

  • It rarely hails here in Northwest Florida. I don't think we'd ever get hail that bad.

  • did you ever drive in that car again? lol

  • @MedelProductions .

    No, it was totaled...

  • @cyclonejimcom DONT TALK SHIT ABOULT TOTALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Waw, such a huge hail, incredibile ! Greate capture !!!!

  • lol hail sucks :p good thing im in california ^^ har har har

  • funny thing in california orange county sourthern california it just hailed at 4:30 lol it hails in califorrnia

  • did u all see that tree like a quarter of a mile up the road i would of floored it towerds that tree

  • @hooah181

I was about to head for that tree but the closer I got to it I found out it was way away from the road in a ditch.

  • @cyclonejimcom I here ya but thats crazy!!! how much did it cost u fix ur car

  • It was a total loss but the insurance covered it, luckly it happened on the interstate.

  • i work at cars and with all the panel damage etc ,this car and all the other cars must be complete writeoffs!does insurane cover this ???

  • Oh yes insurance covers this. If you're fully covered you can get a new car out of the deal:p

  • nice one cheers!

  • Damn!

  • holy shit 3:23 that coach bus runs through the hail like nothing

  • OMG, like big eggs

  • I don't know, if we get bigger hail stones than that, where can we take cover!?!?

  • man..i wonder why dont storm chasers replace the glass with some sort of thick Plexiglas? I mean if i were to go chasing i wouldnt do it in a reg vehicle.

    Good vid 5/5.

  • probably the modifications to the car needed to support the extra thick material is cost prohibitive. In generally storm chasers try to avoid very large hail

  • I'd hate to be driving one of these new cars with glass roofs if I'd ever encounter something like that!

  • That's what we as stormchasers call "Gorilla Hail". Incredible stuff.

  • Sorry about your car dude. That was brutal to watch. Better get Macco!

  • maybe you should use bulletproof glass the next time ;)

  • its hailing here but like 5 times smaller

  • Well Hail !

  • This video never gets old! I seen this footage so many times on full force nature. They also showed your car. That had to suck. Incredible hail footage Jim

    Nathan

  • Another fine day in tornado alley.. I am in Oklahoma and I have my share of dents or battle scars as I call them.. Severe weather season can be nasty for sure.

  • That is insane!

  • i feel sorry for the car dealerships out there emagine the damage and cost!

  • that is amazing you can actually here the emergency anouncement

  • Wholy Shit!!

  • WOOOOOOW!!!

  • Didn't you think of fixing your car with Pops-a-dent? (that nifty thing advertised on TV that is said to be able to remove dents from your car)

  • last year ive seen a hailstorm like this, (Veneto/italy)hailstones:

    >5cm (!)

i was hiding behind a refrigarator:)

everything was destroyed cars, houses it was incredible

i think the warm adria see air was drifting up the Friaul-mountains, it was very hot at this day

why are there so extreme storms in nebraska?

  • These storms occur every year in Nebraska especially during the moths of May and June which is the peak of severe weather season.

  • oh ... wow... increible... que locura esos granizos... esos no son granizos, son meteoritos...

  • what kind of poor car was that?

  • The car was a 1994 pontiac sadan.

  • did you get it fixed or just get a new car?

  • TYhe car was totaled.

  • As in, the hail punched through the hood and messed up the engine?

  • Usually there's just so much body damage (dents) it's not worth it for the insurance company to fix. I had a car totaled by hail (2-3 inch). The windshield was intact (stayed in one piece) but you could hardly see out of it. The back window was completely shattered, the hail then broke through the speakers and I had to fish hail out of the trunk. It also broke both my outside mirrors. Fortunately unlike Jim I wasn't in the car, I was watching the destruction from inside my house.

  • One of the most amazing haistorm videos on the net. I thought Reed Timmers video of hail destroying his chase vehicle was something. This tops anything so far. I don't know if there is anything worse than this. This is what I worry about when storm chasing, dents I don't mind, but broken windshields I do. Your anguish is really evident!!

  • ahrgh shhi

  • Hey Jim during the violent hailstorm, did it start out as baseball sized going to softball sized or was it combined during the whole thing because to me it looks like you got stuck in baseball sized hail?

  • As I was driving east on the Interstate the hail was pretty much baseball size from the start and was some intermittent 4 inch stones. I was headed toward a tree for some cover which I thought was next to the road but in reality was way off the road.

  • OK. What did it sound like to you

  • man the sky is black

  • Never Seen Anytin Like It, Randomly Came Across ya Vid While Typing in "Nebraska" into googlemaps r sumtin,

Just aswell ya were in the car and not in an open field.

    Great Footage

  • I was caught in a similar hail storm in South Africa treking whey up in the mountains...they drew blood however back packs over our heads so no deaths! ;)

  • how can u see?

  • Two questions:

How'd you drive out of there when you couldn't see? and Was that your car or a rental?

Your Vid is why I would NEVER storm chase. I would have to drive my car.

I have no idea if stormchasers always rent or they drive personal vehicles.

  • First. I waited for a friend of mine came by and we bashed out enough of the glass so I could see to get to the motel that was only a mile up the road. Yes, that was my car. Most chasers use their own cars for storm chasing.

  • effin hail boulders

  • OUCH...can see the dollar signs for repairs. Can stormchasers even GET insurance coverage? Good thing I don't have a car ... but one of those puppies on my head: don't EVEN want to think about that.

    *StormSpinner1* in Texas

  • you'd be dead

  • i would love to be in the middle of that! in Australia last year a supercell hit the area of palmwoods in qld and the hail were about 14cm in diameter and destroyed our 2 month old toyota aurion.. =p

  • sorry bout your car but the vid was funny

  • Wow....thanks for putting this clip on here. I have seen short portions of this on TV shows and always wanted to see all of it. Amazing!! I was just wonndering... did this particular hail hit Ogallala directly or were you outside of town??

  • I was just one mile west of town when this event occured. I don't think the town of Ogallala had the hail as large as what occured where I was.

  • What did that feel like?

  • For those who weren't there that day, I was on the eastbound lane of I-80 when I realized I had to make a decision to wait for a mesocylone that was approaching from the north as it looked like a multivortex tornado was imminent I decided to take my chances in the hail core and survive without possible injury because I couldn't turn around and go through the muddy median as there was a chance in getting stuck in the mud with a meso approaching my location.

  • Did this storm produce a tornado? I was curious as I heard the tornado warning on your car radio in the video.

  • There was no confirmed tornado in the area. The warning that came over the radio was from a public report, also the North Platte nexrad had a well defined meso which was coming almost over my location so they sounded a tornado warning.

  • you do realize there are other cars that are parked outside that gets pegged by those hail stones even if those owners aren't storm chasers. they were in the area they're gonna get hit no matter what. it's a natural phenomenon. so it's covered by insurance.

  • WOW, that's really big and the texture really different.

  • As a fellow chaser who LOVES hailstorms I have to give this video 5 stars! Great job Jim!

  • A motel was just one mile up the road. I waited for a chaser friend to help me bust out the remaining part of the window to see where I was going and we very slowly drove to the motel. I had to wear sunglasses at night to keep the shards of glass from blowing into my eyes. The car was totaled the next day by my insurance company.

  • You must have an understanding insurance company. Our insurance companies in Alberta at least from what I've heard from friends and the media have a reputation for finding any reason for not paying out. They would probably rank storm-chasing as high-risk and refuse to pay.

  • HAA your exactly right. They always find any reason not to pay.

  • A hail storm of that type must REALLY suck, especially if your traped in a car, considering there is likely shattered glass in the car, another problem is getting it fixed, well anyway, best hail footage out there.

  • The car was totaled. I had to get a newer car a few days later.

  • How did you drive afterward? Did you take out the windshield or just have the car towed? Great video.

  • dood the truck was hauling

  • its like hailling side ways wow. dang. that freaking sucks

  • wow welcome to nebraska that is amazing i've never seen hail that big sorry to see the damage to your car though

  • dude, that sucks.

  • Classic. I remember watching that on Tv 8 or 10 years ago. Long before I even met you

  • I ever see hail that big, I'm moving - 'course, want to anyway, no basements here - LOL Still, amazing capture - well done.

    *StormSpinner1* in Texas

  • Got this on your DVD. I love this and your Buffalo gap footage. as always great shit.... But you know how much I love hail.

I'll be chasing with you come may..... It can't come sooner...

  • I remember this video Jim. I got this one on one of your dvds. I seen this footage and was like "Oh My God" that is some extreme hail. Talk about going through a hell of a storm. I would hate to be caught in that situation in the core of the storm or bear cage as some call it.

  • Oh come on, Nathan, you would have loved it just as much as me. Just reminds me to always get insurance.

  • Yeah Max, that would really be cool to see hail that size, but say after the storm passes by or having the vehicle under some type of shelter if possible. I would not want to be driving in it to tell you the truth. I don't think too many chasers want to be in that mess, if they can help it.

  • I understand that many storm chasers do get caught in the core, but not on purpose. But there are those that push the envelope too far like those TVN guys. But I still love their footage, and their physical courage to capture some amazing footage.

  • UNBELIEVABLE Jim!!! This is probably the most amazing hail footage out there! I feel bad for your car though...haha.
