  • Jesus, I remember watching this while being evacuated. Even the one before while it was burning and his voice was breaking.

  • This is so sad. Larry is one of my dad's best friends--he was even my dad's best man at his wedding--and for this to happen to such an amazing person is just heartbreaking. I remember spending a lot of time in that house when I was really little.

These fires were devastating, and it's a shame that they hurt so many people. My heart goes out to Larry and his family, and everyone else who was affected.

  • my high school is right below there

  • 941254, light two fires. Douse one with water from a waterhose. Try to douse the other with your prayerhose. Repeat this experiment 99 more times.Statistically speaking, which method was more effective in extinquishing the fire? Now stop humoring yourself and stop pretending you're doing anything more than wishful thinking while on your knees.

  • BTW: I'm so very glad that a single typo makes you correct, gives you the upper hand and proves that I am a complete moron.

I'm stupid, Don't know anything and am much less intelligent then your self. Go to bed knowing this and I hope is makes living a little easier for you. :)

  • Larry, you and everyone that lost their homes are in our thoughts and prayers.

  • We love you Larry!

You will survive this and thrive...

"Things" can be replaced. Time will heal your wounds. The community has and will always support you. You are a class act my friend.

  • i concur to that. Dont fucking talk shit about our city and our country. San Diego is America's finest, and the people here have character.

  • I don't quite understand why the insurance company didn't foam his house? A fireman in Florida invented fire protectant foam that you apply to the house with a garden hose and it prevents a fire like this from burning the house. They also have a newer product using gel foam.

  • i hope he did this on his own and the producer wasnt like "hey larry ur house burnt down?... well get this... you show it to us!"

  • I smell an Emmy Award for Larry...

  • Emmy?! Your not very smart, are you?..

My heart goes out to Larry and his family. 25 years in a house and he stood, watching it burn to the frame. Thats horrible.

Your a wonderful News-caster, one of the best in San Diego. You'll make it through this!

  • Strength in the face of Adversity is admirable and worthy of praise, i.e. an Emmy. BTW, please learn the difference between "your" and "you're". You're not very smart, are you?

  • An Emmy is awarded for entertainment Television. So, YOU'RE saying that this is Drama T.V? ..or maybe that he is acting? Or maybe an Emmy for professionalism in his job.

You may be thinking of a Pulitzer prize....

  • rsakaria, please check with your local TV news station and see if any of your anchors or reporters have won any Emmys. My local news station has won several Emmys for their reporting...

  • Prayers and thoughts going out to all of our residents. Thank you Larry for your service to our communities even when you and your family are suffering.

  • where is skippy when you need him?

was the house in tierrasanta? lol

  • well aparently theve been noted as the best firefighters in america so yours must suck even more.

  • Wow, you fail at life.

  • RIP Himmel House

  • Wow, That is just heartbreaking to see him trying to take it so well and just report his news story. God bless him and his family. What a professional!

  • Larry is a local legend in terms of journalism. My thoughts and prayers go out to him, his family, and those who have been affected.

Even though I live in San Diego, my area has never been affected by these fires nor the Cedar Fires 4 years ago, but it sucks when you lose everything in a blink of an eye.

  • You look one way and see a huge cloud of smoke, and at the edge, clear blue sky, then a second cloud of smoke to the side of that and then another cloud of smoke opposite side of that... Like a darn warzone!

  • I woke up this morning and it's like that in my place.

  • Larry, I am so sorry for the loss of your home. But I am also greatful that you and your family are safe and out of harms way. I wish you and your family all the best and will be praying for you. I know that when you rebuild...what a wonderful home you will have to enjoy with your family !!! God Bless You.

  • Having to actually report on your own house that burned down...

    Dang.

  • San Diego is my home and nothing is more painful than to see what is happening now....

  • Over 20 years in the same house. I moved out of a house I lived in for over 15 years and I was devastated. I didn't lose the house, we just sold it. I can't imagine how losing your home of 20+ years feels like.

My thoughts are with Larry, and those who have lost their homes no matter how long they lived in them.

  • I was watching this yesterday morning, I live here in San Diego, and what you may not see too well is how hard he fighting those tears, and nearly loses it at the end. It made me cry, and everyone i have been telling about this, i start tearing up bad, just sharing this. I'm glad to see this posted because this man is reporting on the hardest thing ever in his life. Larry, much love is in your direction. God bless you.

  • Wow, that's a real shitty gig. Having to report on your own house burning down. Geez.

  • Very sad to see this...Larry is a classy guy and well known on SoCal TV and radio. I LOVED his Sunday Jazz show on KiFM 98.1 back in the late 80's and early 90's - At this challenging time - my prayers are with the Himmel family. Peace - Joe G

  • God bless you Mr. Himmel and those who have lost their homes in the fire, all the best, thoughts with you all.

  • He's like, "unfortunetly we couldn't save the new Hummer" and the guy starts weeping and just lays down on the ground and curls up

  • Lol. Word, I was waiting for that too.

  • Larry, found out about what happened to you when I was checking on my brother in Irvine. Although I haven't seen you in years know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and the family...Your cousin Elyse

  • If Jesus could put it out, then why isn't he? If he's such a good guy why would I have to beg for help like some bum? And what the hell does the the Jews and Muslims have to do with it? I thought this guy was forgiving. Oh right...only when I bow down, give up all dignity and beg...ok. Your a nut job dude.

  • I liked your Great Pumpkin story Larry, those kids were cute! Your sense of humor probably is already starting to re-emerge even after Monday's beating you and your neighbors took. Take a day to wander through the ashes, then go look at floor plans!

  • WE LOVE YOU LARRY.... HANG IN THERE.

  • That's christian charity for you....

  • HAHAHA, wow....you are insane. Wow. Really insane.

  • I've seen this on CNN this morning. I was almost in tears. To think that a TV news personality lost his own home. Just goes to show you news folks ARE humans too. I'm glad he and his family are safe.

  • glad you're safe, Larry. SAn Diego loves you!

  • I grew up watching Larry Himmel on tv. Hell of a guy. So strong. I respect him for holding it together and making sure to talk about other peoples' homes as well.

  • WOW. that guy must be strong. His home just burned to the ground and hes reporting on it. very good, hope for the best for him and his neighbords.

  • I like this guy.Great optimisim.

  • I was soooooo shocked to see this footage on CNN this morning. I'm currently living in Virginia but had lived in San Diego until 2003.

I am so very sorry for your loss Mr. Himmel. You did a marvelous job covering this story. My heart and prayers go out to all those affected by Mother Nature's destruction.

  • Larry, if you rebuild this house let's rebuild the Biff & Skippy show of 25 yrs ago too!

  • god's wrath has quite a sense of humour

  • This just confirms what we all know...nature is very unpredictable. That's why you buy insurance. It doesn't cover everything, but I'm sure he will not be homeless. Life and safety are what is critical. Homes and posessions can be replaced.

  • thats fucked up

  • what a badass. He's doing his job with great composure while staring at his burned down home.

  • some of these comments are 'sick' don't people have anything better to do then to prey on good decent people just to get 'noticed' trust me your kind is a waste of time, NO ONE is listening. I am sorry for Larry's loss, he's good people.

  • lol

  • it's ruff, and tuff, but Larry and family/pets all saved, Hallelujah for that.. Priceless news for sure.

  • I've seen Larry on the news since I was a kid... I've always liked him..... so I'm very sorry to hear what happened to his house..... I feel for him and his family, and wish them all the best of luck.... like someone said below he IS a trooper...

God Bless and hope these stupid fires come to an end.. real soon...

    greetings from SoCal

  • Best of luck to Mr. Himmel & his family, & to all the victims. You're in my prayers.

  • my heart goes out to you Larry.

  • Larry, I'm really sorry for what happened to your house. You and your family are in my prayers.

  • Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, thankfully you and your loved ones are alive and well.

  • larry so sorry for your loss. We are thankful that you are alive and well.

  • what a trooper (:

  • god bless your family

  • Does anyone know how these fires sparked?

  • I used to live in Savenna, down the hill from Larry. I regularly walked my airedale by his house, and our dogs became friends. He and his wife are salt-of-the-earth people, and they had a lovely home on the hillside. It makes me very sad to see his home destroyed.

  • Larry, I am sorry for your loss.
