The stance doesn't have a style which means it really doesn't matter how you stand. As long as you are mobile. Karate guy panicked cause he is not use to seeing punches come at him at such speeds. Clearly his Wing Chun was more effective in this fight wheather or not his punches were proper. Someone needs to do more research.
@HalfGoldenDragonBoy That looks like practical Wing Chun to me. That's the whole concept of Wing Chun: Get in your opponent's face, stay close to him, and attack every spot that is open. Wing Chun is pure offensive.
karate guys have trouble with strong in fighters. all these vids show the wing chun fighter just swarming and easily winning. a real fighters got the answer for him inside. wing chun isnt the only style with good in fighting techniques.
Aggression though...is a key element of wing tsun. But it's the key element of many styles of martial arts. But what is more important is to be loose in your arms. He contracts his muscles here, so he cannot really give in to the opponents power, if he had some ;-). And further more. Wing tsun uses albows to the head, palm strokes to the neck and so on. He had to put away wing tsun. It would be dangerous in this fight.
@spildaleidodomo They work here, yes. I have been practicing Wing Tsun for 10 years, and chainpunches is the first basic thing you learn alongside frontkick and such. When you have developed your skills you don't use chainpunches that much. You seek the "bridge" to your opponent through chainpunches and goes on to use other tools through the chisao. MMA uses chainpunches as well. I don't call that wing tsun. It's just ONE weapon out of many. What wins the fight here is aggression. Not wing tsun.
@dantewong4325 The funny thing about wing chun is that all the training for precise clean movements dont translate well in a real fight. I have never seen a real wing chun fight that even resembles the training, If you want to see clean movements you will need to watch it in a movie.
@surreal5335 actually,I'm learning Wing Chun,what I've been taught are really useful moves.maybe there is a misunderstanding,or I just don't get it. :)
@dantewong4325 I dont mean to rip on wing chun in the slightest, I think its very under rated. Thinking about it more I belive the reason why wing chun is obvious in the movies is due to the fact that they pause slightly at the end of each strike or block. In a real fight, you dont stop, thats why it looks more like a blur.
@aj27117 You aren't wrong, it's just that this was a "legal fight" and they both have to wear gloves. I'm sure the WT guy would have been a lot better if he didn't have them on, but it's illegal to not wear gloves in a sanctioned fight I believe, correct me if I'm wrong. He still destroyed him completely, the damage without gloves on would have been pretty bad on the karate guy though, I can't blame them for using gloves.
@dakumarian It definately doesn't suck. Done effectively it can be devestating. If you want a recent example then all you have to do is look at machida (MMA fighter) who uses karate as a foundation for his sparring.
This however, was not an effective use of karate. The gaurd was inneffective, his lateral movement was poor, his kicking was weak. I've sparred Wing Chun practicioners and done properly, karate can be very effective.
@lain777 Nope, i said his lateral movement WAS poor, Not were, that's grammatically wrong. Lateral movement in martial arts is moving side to side relative to the target in order to engage strike points. You're fighting a Wing Chun practictioner, they work forward and backward best, so you need to work the angles in order to open up striking opportunities. As a Karateka, he should be good at that. He's not.
Although the guy practiced WT and Muay Thai, what we seen was not Wing Tsun. WHY? Simply because he wore gloves which makes his punches ineffective, which made the fight to be a battle of stamina. In WT we also use to grab the opponents arm to do our flashy moves. How are you going to do that with a boxing gloves. Also, we do takedowns. The WT guy had tons of chances to take his opponent down but he didn't. Maybe he's too kind.

@Frostbite412 No, this guy (Tuong Thai Pham, I think his name was) was training Wing Tsun at the time of this clip.
Apart from that, I'm pretty sure he had more than just 1st student grade, as you might get the impression from reading the description. Not that I care about grades, but it does tell you he was not a complete beginner.
@north it's not in ufc cuz it's not a sport fighting technique it's ment for real fights and Kung Fu fighters have more respect then going out and making a buck on there talent Kung Fu is a way of life
@AydaisAy He dos Thai Boxing ,Boxing and Brazilian jujitsu. never heard of him doing wing chun i think u made that up just because of the way he sets up his punches.
@Rey and if u do study karate more power to u it's good to know how to fight however I find karate to stiff and any1 with sense that can adapt can beat karate that what I've found for studying it or 3years so I've moved on to other martial arts I believe to b a truly good fight u must know more then 1 style karate does have good kicks I'll give u that
@Rey don't get me wrong it's better to know karate then not knowing anything having said that karate is not good in street fights I have taking karate for a couple years didn't like it and I have fought many ppl who study it and I have found them easy to beat all there form keeps them open
@Rey don't get me wrong it's better to know karate then not knowing anything having said that karate is not good in street fights I have taking karate for a couple years didn't like it and I have fought many ppl who study it and I have found them easy to beat all there form keeps them open
@Faron I studied karate for a couple years to b honest I personally didn't like it, it doesn't work in real fights leave u open to much I have studied many ma's
@Mosese424 Lol.You probaly saying jokes right?Karate uneffective?This shows how little you know about this martial art.It's a very effictive martial art for the street ..
@dr I know there's more then 1 form of karate but basic traditional karate sucks it's sloppy and pointless every technique they have leaves u open sounds like u have never fought b4
@faron27 karate is weak it's for spot not real fighting I've trained in many different martial arts including karate it's nit that good Kung Fu is way more fluent and realistic don't get me wrong u still need to know more then just Kung Fu to be really great
@Mosese424 Wow you said a mouth full of retardation. Firstly, Karate is based on Kung Fu, and like Kung Fu, Karate has more than one inherit style. Secondly, I believe you meant to say that Kung Fu is more "fluid" not fluent. Wing Chun is extremely fluid; however there are less fluid styles that revolve around power. Neither are superior. You use a Martial Art that gives you the techniques and moves that suit you. Anyone can win a fight; no matter what style they use.
it's different when your getting punched in the face than when you sit at a computer and type! most people don't enjoy getting punched in the face so their natural reaction is to turn their head KEYBOARD WARRIORS! and wing tsun would never beat a true karate ka everyone knows that...
Not just Karate, rather. But all martial arts that leave your body wide open to attack. Step in past the knee of a kicker, and it's over. Deflect the kick, and it's over. Get in close to a Karate ka, and it's over. Ranged combat fails against CQC, especially where Wing Chun/Tsun are involved.
@MaestroDraven Kung Fu guy's are no match for a Karate Ka ,and wing tsun was developed by woman to protect them from rapists and muggers not Karate... seriously i am BB Shorin Ryu Karate Jitsu Karate
close combat is welcome that way all of your pressure point are exposed and your own force can be used against you;} once we go to the ground it's over for any kung fu regardless of who the person is! thats a fact not a comment!
@faron27 no match? ahhokay :) karate originated from wushu not kungfu its no longer called kungfu because all the old masters died in the cultural revolution. only the student hold heritage of their masters. karate in other words is modified wushu from the first and second pattern. this is also a fact.. my master is no joke. he trained in the arts of bakmei and not many masters knows this.. theres only a chosen amount.
@hvias Karate originated in Okinawa when the Japanese took control of the island and took all the peoples swords and weapons, a Chinese Boxer taught the Sholin Monks there some moves they combine with Okinawa fighting style Tomari-te then you get Karate. as i have stated I am BB and had to do a major report on the origins of Karate. wushu no match for Shorin Ryu promise. all styles are good don't be sad no kung fu ever beat real Karate ;}
Wing Tsun wasn't developed for that reason at all. I don't know where you got that information, but it reeks of ignorance. No woman's self defense martial art involves getting in as close as humanly possible to pummel your opponent ruthlessly and brutally.
I'm sorry, but we're trained to take advantage of all of Karate's weaknesses and exploits, and there are LOTS of them.
@MaestroDraven sorry you feel that way perhaps the only way to see is a sparring match? i would love for you to come in wailing your arms around, nothing like a straight right and a take down then your wing tsun doesn't stand a chance. as any real fighter knows all fights wind up on the ground when evenly matched i would love to see your eye's bulge out of your head when your in RNC hahahahahaha please..... seriously how many MMA fighter are wing tsun it doesn't translate in real day 2 day!
Damnit, first know what styles ur watching before saying it's crap... this is actually the first time I see a wing chun amature using wing chun to deflect attacks instead of just some random chainpunching!
Alot dislike this but r not watching correct dude in black did great untouched. karate guy didn't get to touch the other, he was being deflected and taking hits till karate guy took a left to chin. Watch Carefully! :-)
Rofl.... Dear santa for this year all I ask is to fight a "win chun man" man for my next fight. I just hope my bJJ brown belt, 9-1 record, 7 wins by knock out is enough to deal with such skill as this..... Lmao
Has anyone else noticed that when most kung fu is performed without choreography like in a ring as a real fight, It ends up in a quick slapping and scratching fight and looks really frantic?
in this video there isn't no one karate man and no one wing tsun man...but there is two stupid persons that haven't understand nothing about martial arts....
People think Martial Arts are going to be beautiful and highly structured like the see in the movies. That was Wing Tsun, which is about pressing forward, and sticking to your opponent, and reading his attacks. No fight is pretty. Everyone complaining about his chain punches, get into a fight, and see how hard it is to keep the structure of your chain punches when your under the pressure of a fight and your opponent is throwing punches and kicks to your face. This guy did excellent.
@TeamTrapStun I agree that real fights aren't pretty and don't look like the movies. But as a Wing Chun practitioner myself I would not agree with your justification for his misplaced chain punches. He should not be attempting the strike unless he can make a successful contact. He is sacrificing vital structure by dancing around in a sparring fashion which means even if some punches connect, they will have little power. This kind of flyswatting is what gives the Wing Chun punch a bad rap.
Basically, he is comparing apples to oranges i.e. combat based sports to practical self defense. If his only exposure to Wing Chun is BAD youtube videos (and most are bad if I'm honest) and the rare MMA "Kung Fu" pretender then his bad impression doesn't surprise me. I might think the same. Believe me, it REALLY suits us Wing Chun guys that our art is underestimated.
@TheChristopherHope saying you're a wing chun practioner is as pointless as fat white people who say "I have 20yrs of taekwondo experience" doing it for years doesn't translate to real fighting experience nor does it hold up well both in the martial arts world but also a disgrace to the chinese culture
@LAHrebirth I'm not sure I understand your point. If you are observing that someone "saying" they are an experienced practitioner (which I did not attempt to imply), does not always mean they have fight experience, then, I would have to agree. I fortunately don't get myself into many fights. I'm not looking for macho points. I was making a subjective assessment of the video, which, your comment has done nothing to contradict. My experience level has no relevance to the validity of my comment.

Mosese424 6 months ago
@north it's not in ufc cuz it's not a sport fighting technique it's ment for real fights and Kung Fu fighters have more respect then going out and making a buck on there talent Kung Fu is a way of life

@dr I know there's more then 1 form of karate but basic traditional karate sucks it's sloppy and pointless every technique they have leaves u open sounds like u have never fought b4
Mosese424 6 months ago
@faron27 karate is weak it's for spot not real fighting I've trained in many different martial arts including karate it's nit that good Kung Fu is way more fluent and realistic don't get me wrong u still need to know more then just Kung Fu to be really great
Mosese424 6 months ago
@Mosese424 Wow you said a mouth full of retardation. Firstly, Karate is based on Kung Fu, and like Kung Fu, Karate has more than one inherit style. Secondly, I believe you meant to say that Kung Fu is more "fluid" not fluent. Wing Chun is extremely fluid; however there are less fluid styles that revolve around power. Neither are superior. You use a Martial Art that gives you the techniques and moves that suit you. Anyone can win a fight; no matter what style they use.

Lol I've fought in many real fights and tournaments these guys a boobs can't fight lol
Mosese424 6 months ago
it's different when your getting punched in the face than when you sit at a computer and type! most people don't enjoy getting punched in the face so their natural reaction is to turn their head KEYBOARD WARRIORS! and wing tsun would never beat a true karate ka everyone knows that...
faron27 6 months ago
@faron27
I wholeheartedly beg to differ. Wing Tsun was designed primarily to take advantage of all of Karate's flaws....most of them kick-based.
MaestroDraven 6 months ago
@faron27
MaestroDraven 6 months ago
@MaestroDraven Kung Fu guy's are no match for a Karate Ka ,and wing tsun was developed by woman to protect them from rapists and muggers not Karate... seriously i am BB Shorin Ryu Karate Jitsu Karate
close combat is welcome that way all of your pressure point are exposed and your own force can be used against you;} once we go to the ground it's over for any kung fu regardless of who the person is! thats a fact not a comment!
faron27 6 months ago
@faron27 no match? ahhokay :) karate originated from wushu not kungfu its no longer called kungfu because all the old masters died in the cultural revolution. only the student hold heritage of their masters. karate in other words is modified wushu from the first and second pattern. this is also a fact.. my master is no joke. he trained in the arts of bakmei and not many masters knows this.. theres only a chosen amount.
hvias 6 months ago
@hvias Karate originated in Okinawa when the Japanese took control of the island and took all the peoples swords and weapons, a Chinese Boxer taught the Sholin Monks there some moves they combine with Okinawa fighting style Tomari-te then you get Karate. as i have stated I am BB and had to do a major report on the origins of Karate. wushu no match for Shorin Ryu promise. all styles are good don't be sad no kung fu ever beat real Karate ;}
faron27 6 months ago
@faron27
MaestroDraven 6 months ago
@MaestroDraven sorry you feel that way perhaps the only way to see is a sparring match? i would love for you to come in wailing your arms around, nothing like a straight right and a take down then your wing tsun doesn't stand a chance. as any real fighter knows all fights wind up on the ground when evenly matched i would love to see your eye's bulge out of your head when your in RNC hahahahahaha please..... seriously how many MMA fighter are wing tsun it doesn't translate in real day 2 day!
faron27 6 months ago
I agree they both sit their chins on a platter. Against a boxing/muay thai opponent they will get KO'd every time.

TeamTrapStun 7 months ago
@TeamTrapStun I agree that real fights aren't pretty and don't look like the movies. But as a Wing Chun practitioner myself I would not agree with your justification for his misplaced chain punches. He should not be attempting the strike unless he can make a successful contact. He is sacrificing vital structure by dancing around in a sparring fashion which means even if some punches connect, they will have little power. This kind of flyswatting is what gives the Wing Chun punch a bad rap.

@TheChristopherHope What is your opinion on what joe rogan said abuot kung fu/wing chun.
MrGrevy 6 months ago
@MrGrevy Short answer. I think he's wrong.

FizzyBublech 6 months ago
@TheChristopherHope saying you're a wing chun practioner is as pointless as fat white people who say "I have 20yrs of taekwondo experience" doing it for years doesn't translate to real fighting experience nor does it hold up well both in the martial arts world but also a disgrace to the chinese culture
LAHrebirth 6 months ago
@LAHrebirth I'm not sure I understand your point. If you are observing that someone "saying" they are an experienced practitioner (which I did not attempt to imply), does not always mean they have fight experience, then, I would have to agree. I fortunately don't get myself into many fights. I'm not looking for macho points. I was making a subjective assessment of the video, which, your comment has done nothing to contradict. My experience level has no relevance to the validity of my comment.
