  • first, i have always wanted to hunt boar, second no matter what animal your after coupleing the right gun and bullet, or bow and arrow with broadhead is crucial, and it still comes down to proficientcy and shot placement, this short video proves all three! very nice hog by the way

  • you mad bro?

  • Vitals are much lower on a hog than on a deer.Check other sites online for Hog anatomy to confirm this. When in doubt on a hog, shoot low. The "plate" is high and nearly inpenetratable with an arrow....any arrow. The rib tips cover the heart (low) but they much thinner down low and most broadheads will penetrate easily. On a broadside shot, the leg bone protects the heart, so a quarter on or quarter away shot is required. Shoot for the heart. With a double lung shot, a hog can run forever.

  • This is assuming a ground shot, not a tree stand shot, where the arrow must enter higher in order to pass thru the heart at a downward angle. Again, you must THINK 3D. We're not shooting paper targets here, tacked to the skin surface of a "block target". We must think about the location of the vitals (heart, lungs, etc.) and aim so the arrow/broadhead passes thru vitals INSIDE the body cavity. I seldom chase a deer or hog very far when I can get the broadhead to pass through the inner vitals.

  • KE is important, but SHOT PLACEMENT IS MOST IMPORTANT ON HOGS. This shot was 6" high, too far back, and broadside. In my experience, the only sure HOG kill with an arrow is a heart shot. Hog heart lies between the front legs of a standing hog, 3-6" above the belly line. Thinking 3D, imagine an X between the front legs with the heart at the intersect. A quarter away shot, TIGHT BEHIND the NEAR LEG, exits in FRONT OF THE FAR LEG, with the arrow passing between the front legs (X) thru the heart.

  • my friend , that's a great piece of advice!!! i really appreciate it!! thanks...

  • damn stright im shooting a 75#@27'' long bow using a 800 grain arrow set up it fucks hogs up proper. for heads i use the 250 grain woodsman elite or the 220 grain muzzy ss phantom

  • @nitroexpress700

good god thats not an arrow thats a spear!!!!!!!!!

lay em down bro shoot on!!!!!

  • @Hunterhudge ahhh yeah bro i shot a wolf with it a few days back and that 250 grain unvented woodsman elite blue a 2" dia 3 blade hole right thru his ass he went 7 yards then face planted into the ground there classified as there "safarie" head they are perfectly silent they dont have vents like the old woodsmans check out 3 rivers archery they are the worlds largest traditional bow archery supplyer.....

  • sorry but nobody is going to come se you... ill keep my shit the way it is. im not "beefing it up" because you have non native species fucking up hunting because they get out and ruin and everybody elses hunting

  • Thanks.... Good info in that video... Check out my hog hunt and subscribe if you like...

  • very nice video, our hogs here are more domestic, , we shoot right through there shoulders, but on e the bigger ones (200pds plus) we wait fo that quartering away shot or shoot em back a little bit to take out the lungs. nice video though

  • why cant we buy this meat in canada? busniess opportunity??

  • I dig the accent and dialect.

My rule is 10-12gr per lb of draw weight.

Looks like lots more wild boar genetics than the usual run of feral pigs in america. I'd say, always got for a quartering away shot into the vitals. That's the way to do it, don't have to punch through the shield.

  • @TheBoyFromNorfolk you are a jackass. what are you drawing 40 lbs of weight? nobody is going to be shooting a 840 grain arrow because they draw 70 lbs. the arrow aint even gonna fly

  • @ccroni36

I shoot a 60lb Fred Bear Super Kodiak with 650 grain arrows. The Arrows fly beautifully. Perhaps I should have been more specific in that for Traditional Bows, My rules is 10-12gr per lb of draw weight.

Lots of people who Shoot English Warbow have arrows of over 1000 grain.

Just because it's not the way you do it doesn't make it wrong, and doesn't make me a jack ass. Maybe I should have been more clear, but I doubt it would have helped you, or your lack of manners.

  • hi im a hillbilly hey hey umhum

  • Hey troy, what sort of new hoyt did you get? I got me a maxxis 35 at 80lb. I love that thing - with easton axis 300's tipped with zwickey 125's, that thing fucks hogs good and proper, shield is no problem.

  • i understand what you are trying to do, but only an idiot would shoot there, thats the worst shot you could make on a hog, it doesnt matter what animal you are hunting, without good shot placement, its not gonna go good

  • I knew, when I watched this video, people would be making a stink about shooting a pig that's already dead. How else do you prove to avid bow hunters that shooting mature boars generally requires a rifle? Of course you can kill one with a bow, but it requires percision beyond what was is practiced for deer. I'm addicted to bow hunting, but I leave it at home in favor of a compact .45-70 (325gr.) when going after boar. In thes end it's safer and more ethical. Thanks for the video!

  • @WIporkchopexpress Shoot mature boars does NOT require a rifle... it just requires a bow hunter who has the sense to carefully plan out his hunt, and use the proper equipment to begin with.

  • I think he just wants to show off his pigs

  • How about a spear chucking spear crossbow, didn't the Romans use something like that?

  • That's amazing... I guess that's why they call it a sheild!

  • piggy wiggy wango

  • hell ya i need to come up there to hunt how much do u charge to hunt

  • I guess I missed the vulagarities here as well.. Am I going deaf, or is that fellow a moron? We preach heavy arrows too here in missouri for anyone wishing to hunt hogs or even whitetails. Sure that lightweight arrow is a little more forgiving at long range, but wouldn't you rather just get closer and make a clean kill?

  • Im shootin a 600g grizzly stik momentum with a 200g samurai broadhead, plenty for anything in north america

  • I have not tried bow hunting yet...keen and looking forward to it....just wondering...have you ever tried or thought about taking a hog down with dogs and a knife? if not you should check out how the kiwis hunt in middle earth aka new zealand. alex@centralhelicopters.co.nz

  • Comment removed

  • so i shoot a 400 grain arrow with a 100 g5 striker at 60 pounds shouldnt hunt there

  • they took errr jobs!!!

  • @Bongwater123 and therer gunns!!!

  • And hey temptress there's different people in this world from different backgrounds and different lives and different backgrounds-Troy probably won't tell you but I will... Go go fuck yourself you pretentious self rightious cunt!!

  • Troy that was a very informative video thanks. I've said the same thing all along about heavy arrows-Down here in Texas, I've seen a hog shot with an expandable spitfire broadhead, stabbed w a knife and finally shot with a .40-they are tough! Keep killing them hogs bro!

  • Wow he really seems quite articulate and intelligent my goodness

  • Yall betta Beef it up Fellas XD lmaoo

  • Stop playing with it and plate it up mate! :D

  • @MegaJacobsmith Hey that wasn't a walmart broad head. that was One of the best broad heads ever made. that broad has killed more game in history, then your Rage ever dreamed about. That was a Thunder Head by NAP. you Rage reviews are a joke.

  • @TheRedeeminggrace I APPRECIATE YOUR COMMENTS AND YOUR CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. YOU I REVIEWED THE VIDEO AND FOUND NO VULGARITIES THERE. I HAVENT HAD TIME TO REVIEW ALL MY VIDEOS FOR ANYTHING THAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED OFFENSIVE. I WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF YOU WOULD POINT THESE THINGS OUT. I TRY TO LIVE BY THE WORD BUT FALL SHORT EVERY DAY "GOD IS STILL WORKING ON ME"!!!! I PRAISE HIM FOR THAT AND MANY MANY OTHER BLESSINGS I RECEIVE. TROY

  • @TrackerTroy Jesus never ate pig and when he prayed he stood up and went down on his face. So if you follow Jesus, I'd hope you'd follow him the way he taught you to..

  • @TheRedeeminggrace Vulgarities? He didn't even say damn or hell.

    Good video Troy.

  • @TheRedeeminggrace shut the fuck up if u dont like how the man talks why talk shit about him?!?! just dont watch his videos u fuckin tightass. Not to mention the shit kids say hear and do in school is way worse than anything he said in the video.

  • @TheRedeeminggrace Troy went all gospel on you

  • @fany516 thats how some people talk in the south bro hahahaha

  • Caps lock, for when you want to unleash the fury.

  • Any EFOC non-believers need to rig some of their own arrows and shoot at different materials for their own penetration tests. At close range, my 370 gr arrows penetrate 50% of what my 800 grain arrows (with extremely high FOC) penetrate in some materials even though the KE is almost identical between the two setups (momentum is not). At longer ranges, the difference is much much greater. Read Ed Ashby's recommendations on arrow setups; it will make a difference in the field.

  • ud the man i just spear them myself like the russian big hog god bless ya brother

  • Awsome video brotha... alotta people dont believe in heavy arrowss. They all want SPEED.. But no KE.

  • @534810 KE goes up only slightly with increased arrow mass. it's the momentum that increases more significantly with heavier arrows.

  • Rambo, you look and sound like a prick.

  • Love your accent man!

  • I shot a hog with a diamond edge at 53 pounds at 207 fps and it ran 25 yards. It was 190 pounds with a 100 grain thunder head and a 250 grain arrow. His bow is pretty slow.

  • damn..nice hogs

  • I use a 835 grain arrow woith a 60 pound bow and have taken a 487 pound boar no problem i have a friend try and tell me his 350 grain would knock a hog out with a 70 pound bow...................... i laughed at him.

  • I'm shooting 475 grain arrows w/ G5 Montec 3 blade BH. Hoyt Seven 37 IBO 313FPS is this sufficient enough? Or should i make some adjustments?

  • I'm using an 07' Bowtech Tribute at 70lbs shooting a 29 1/2 inch Grizzlystik Safari with a 315gr Ashley 2 blade head and inserts for a total of 900gr. I've missed some Georgia hogs but haven't failed to kill one i hit yet. Same concept as Buffalo an Elephant cartridges, heavy and hard hitting. Not supper fast and fragile. Hogs are the poor mans Cape buffalo. Since i am poor as hell, i shoot a lot of hogs. They work dang good on Kodiak and Moose too. Wifes from south of Anchorage.

  • Okay TrackerTroy, I'm up for your opinion on the broad-head weight, but I didn't really catch what you said you think it ought to be. What weight "did" you say you did think was necessary for the hogs down your way. FWIW, I put a 100 grain Rage clear through a 100 pound boar in NC with a double lung shot. Bow draw is about 63-65 and I shot him from about 20 yards. PS, nice comeback to the gasface punk.

  • i shoot a hog in fl in the swamp with a 7mm mag in the sholder and i didnt even find blood unless i missed from 30 yards and if thats the case i need to stop hunting

  • trackertroy. raped ate the age of whogivesafuck

  • yeah thats right. with your cunt hair mustache and uncle ted setup. i bet your asshole is nice and tight. i want my 3" cock in it. nice and deep. nice and hard. make you think of a good hog shield. nailing your anal wall with the head of my erect cockasauris. my number is 1888-657-shutthefuckupandswallowsomecum.1

  • ill fuck your redneck asshole with my light arrow set up and rage 2 blade combo. your piglets are weak. get fucked. you dirty mother fucker.

  • hey tracker troy...... shut the fuck up. asshole licker cock sucker

  • A heavy arrow maintains its energy when it meets resistance like shield, bone or tough hide. Somebody needs to shoot the same hog with a heavy arrow to shut these light arrow speed-freaks up.

And another thing, if light arrows were really that good at penetration, why don't Cape or Asiatic water buffalo hunters use 400gn arrows?

  • @chevorlet11415 THE BROADHEAD IS ONLY PART OF THE SOLUTION. YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE WEIGHT TO GIVE THE ENTIRE AIRROW THE NEEDED MOMENTUM FOR ADEQUATE PENETRATION. YOU ARE MISSING THE BOAT THINKING A DIFFERENT BROADHEAD WOULD HAVE MADE A NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE IN PENETRATION. FURTHERMORE, IN MY OPINION ANYONE ANY HUNTER WHO THINKS A MUZZY IS A SUBSTANDARD BROADHEAD HAS SPENT MUCH MORE TIME WATCHING HUNTING SHOWS THAN IN THE FIELD. I HAVE PROVEN THE ATOM TO BE A PEICE OF SHIT WHEN HUNTING HOGS.

  • @MegaJacobsmith IT HAS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE THAT A RAGE PERFORMS VERY SIMILAR TO A WALL MART BROADHEAD WHEN SHOT INTO A HOG OF THIS CALIBER. ARCHERS IN GENERAL ARE ALWAYS TRYING TO FIX SOMETHING THAT IS NOT BROKEN. NO RAGE (OR ANY OTHER MECHANICAL FOR THAT MATTER) WILL OUT PENETRATE, OUT LAST A TRIED AND TRUE ONE PIECE CUT ON CONTACT 2 BLADE HEAD THAT HAS BEEN BLASTING THRU THE BIGGEST AND BADDEST BIG GAME ON EARTH BEFORE YOU OWNED YOUR FIRST RED RYDER BB GUN.

  • thatsa big fuckin hog!!!

  • You don't fuck with these boys....

  • so 400grane is to light so if i go hog hunting use 500 to 600 gran .

  • That was pretty amazing, and you've got the most badass accent on the planet.

  • i run 170 grain arrows and they go straight through 2 inch thick armour

  • @dollzore Dare you to hunt a cape or asiatic water buffalo with that pathetic arrow.

  • wat kind of broadhead was that?

  • Your best bet when hog hunting with a bow is to take a quartering away shot. That's your best bet for getting a good shot in the vitals before hitting the opposite shoulder, which won't matter. I harvested a 300-350 lbs boar this past march and used a 1.75" Wasp Jackhammer. I am also shooting right at 70 pounds of KE. The first shot was a pass through, but a hair back and I had to put another arrow in him, but I took him down with MECHANICALS! It's all in the shot placement.

  • As for arrow rigidity -It is known as spine. It is matched to your draw & tip weight & arrow length. As for "Shake out " look up 'Archer's Paradox.'. Arrows flex in flight - Horizontal for finger & Vertical for release shooters.

  • KE - Yes, velocity trumps in the KE formula. Which is great for high speed rifles or if you want to sell newest bows/arrows. In reality for a relatively slow bullets & arrows even at 350+fps Momentum/inertia & FOC rules. Google Dr. Ashby's reports.

Which goes along with what he is saying.

  • get rid of that thunder head and get a muzzy!

  • @Charcoal300zxTT

You would see the same outcome with a Muzzy if you hit that plate.

  • hai , i am hunting these wild boars in germany.. they are a every day boar for us.

Badly enough we are not alloud to hunt them with bow and arrow.

I think it will make hunting more special for some of us.

    nice video thanks.. Waidmannsheil

  • I gotta get with you on a hunt for a monster hog like that, I shoot 550gr's @ 307/310fps. I think this video RULES

  • @jordyd19

A HOG LIKE THAT IS NOT AN EVERY DAY THING, I'M SURE YOU KNOW.

I COULD GET YOU A 20 YD SHOT A 250 PLUS BOAR ON A 2-3 DAY HUNT. YOU MAY KILL ONE MUCH BTGGER BUT I DO NOT WANT TO OVERSELL MYSELF.

  • @TrackerTroy Yo Troy, those look like some beefy hogs bro. Here in the Northern territory of Australia we have hogs but not that big. Im very jealous of you guys having those european hogs. We generally accept arrows of 500gn arrows as standard for our hogs and anywhere around 700gn for asiatic water buffalo.

You should do a comparison video between a heavy and a light arrow on a dead hog to clearly demonstrate a heavy arrow's effectiveness.

  • @MrJenik007 Funny you should say that because I have been planning to do just that. We have done this off camera and the difference in penetration is astounding. The next time we get a truly mature boar with a thick shield I hope time allows me to do a video comparison. I AM WAITING TO HARVEST SUCH A HOG IN THE MORNING, IN COLD WEATHER. THIS WOULD ALLOW ME THE TIME TO DO THE COMPARISON TN GOOD LIGHT WITHOUT TAKING A CHANCE ON SPOILING THE MEAT.

  • Sounds like you guys need to research the kinetic energy formula. Velocity trumps mass every single time (velocity is squared in the formula). In regards to bow hunting, arrow rigidity is important. If the arrow has no rigidity it will "shake out" all it's energy upon impact which is what is happening in your video. You can still get adequate penetration out of a lighter weight shaft when driven fast enough. Most modern compound bows are capable of speeds in excess of 300fps nowadays.

  • @kgunz11THE

KINETIC ENERGY CARRIED BY AN ARROW AT IMPACT HAS NO DIRECT BEARING ON ITS ABILITY TO PENETRATE.

  • @TrackerTroy

Im afraid you are wrong here, Cap-i-tain! Kinetic energy has EVERYTHING to do with penetration. Granted, if the broadhead is dull, thats going to kill penetration... be like shooting a judo-point. But The formula is tried and true. I guarantee, you can use a higher powered bow and a lighter arrow such as this guy used, and make sure the broadhead is razor sharp, and that arrow will penetrate as deep as needed. There is a perfect formua. Check it.

  • @DevGau614 I BEG TO DIFFER. I DONT USE FORMULAS TO GET MY ANSWERS, I USE EXPERIENCE. WE CAN DEBATE THIS ALL DAY. THE ANSWER IS BASIC PHYSICS. NOT ONLY DOES A FASTER MOVING LIGHTER OBJECT MEET MUCH MORE RESISTANCE WHEN HITTING THE SAME SURFACE AS A SLOWER MOVING HEAVY OBJECT, IT TAKES MUCH MORE TO STOP THE HEAVY OBJECT THAN THE LIGHTER ONE. ITS NOT ABOUT KINETIC ENERGY ITS ABOUT MOMENTUM. PRIVATE!

  • @TrackerTroy All Caps... get ready to release the fury! Maybe you should switch to a higher poundage bow. Science is fact.

  • @TrackerTroy

  • @DevGau614 BULLSHIT

  • Good solid two blade head like magnus, zwickey or blackstump on a steel adaptor to get some extreme FOC is whats needed.

  • Dead right. Two blade SOLID broadheads, shaving sharp. Heavy arrows. Essential.

The broadhead failing had just as much to do with lack of penetration as the light arrow weight. That blade pulling out at the front is just like pulling the handbrake on when ya driving down the highway.

  • mate I m totally with ya...i run bowhunterslodge here in australia;

preach the same to all the hunters...

we ve a popular broadhead over here that we reccommend,

    blackstump broadheads,

    good solid two bladers..

    cheers

    pat

  • @BOWHUNTERLODGE DONT YOU THINK IT IS IRONIC THAT THE GUYS THAT WISH TO KILL BIG HOGS WITH A BOW ARE TELLING THE GUIDES THAT DO IT EVERY DAY HAW WRONG WE ARE? THOSE WHO THINK THEY KNOW IT ALL WILL NEVER LEARN ANYTHING.

  • @TrackerTroy mate you got that right....ive just updated a heap of my vids, i select the comments accepted after approval, saves alot of dribble on your site.....look forward to more vids,we are in mainly deer season now,so wont be back on the boars and bulls til aug/sept..cheers pat

  • @TrackerTroy

Troy, I owe you a PUBLIC APOLOGY since I PUBLICLY stated you needed to learn English and to keep the language in the toilet, I was reading some of the responses and I MISTAKENLY took a readers response for one of yours. I Apologize openly and people, who put garbage on need to think before posting these words, As I stated before Children watch these videos and read the garbage you write. Troy you were not responsible and please keep the videos coming. Thank you and God bless

  • its all about arrow placement, i shoot a parker with a 60lb draw, 100gr g5 tip, passed clean through a hog i spot and stalked at twenty yards, you just got to know where to hit, my hog didn't run thirty yards, but i'm an okie boy, we know how its done.

  • @mrjosiahbutcher MY OKIE BROTHER, SHOT PLACEMENT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WHEN SHOOTING ANY THING, RIFLE, BOW OR WHATEVER. BUT HEAR ME WHEN I SAY THAT ALL HOGS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL. A SOW (NO MATTER HOW BIG), BARED BOAR OR YOUNG BOAR IS NOT BY ANY MEANS IN THE SAME CLASS AS AN OLD MATURE BREEDING BOAR. THE ONLY LIKENESS THESE ANIMALS SHARE IS THE FACT THAT THEY ARE HOGS. I HAVE SEEN THE TYPE OF ARROW YOU SHOOT KILL WILD PIGS BUT NOT MATURE WILD BOAR OF THIS CALIBER. WHY CHANCE IT, BEEF UP!

  • you sound like my uncle very educated about the game you know what it takes to drop a massive hog

  • You boys speak a whole different kind of english down in south carolina!!

  • @zonker892 ITS SUMKINDOFMOBETTER! COME VISIT.

  • We just spear armor-plated hogs like that. Save the arrows for the fragile bucks and coyotes.

  • Respond to this video... GET-R-DONE!

  • Great video. Shot a hog last weekend in the same spot. I knew where to hit him but I missed. My rage arrow went in about 3 in and fell out 50 yds away. I am with you 100% if you want to bow hunt hogs go heavy or go home!!

  • fuck rednecks

  • that blade coming out of the broadhead is inexcusable.

  • and the face buddy was shooting a 100gr nap thunderhead didnt help the cause at all, heavy arrow and a good soild 2blade broadhead for those big monsters.

  • @505920 Most bowhunters discount the proven penetration advantages of 2-blade c on c heads. Simply look at how few are available on the market today. The advantages of a third or fourth blade pale in comparison to the sacrifices you are making on penetration.

  • @505920 this is my first year bow hunting now im going 4 white tail ive shot very many with my shotgun but i figured 2 pick up a bow and its all set up now and i have the thunderheads and there 125 grain and it sounds like u dont like them and i would like 2 know why and what brawed heads should i use i pull back 60lbs ....now i seen the blades falling apart when he pulled it out 2 why is that again im new 2 bow hunting im just asking 4 help i have nobody 2 help me

  • @soggytoast89

see your local archery shop , whitetails can be harvested just fine with a 250gr arrow shaft +100gr broadhead with a 45 lbs bow ... but hogs as prooven in this video are tuff tuff animals , you would have to put that arrow right behind that shoulder and armor ... 70 lbs compounds can do the job on hogs as big as these , using heavier gr shafts and tuffer sharper , i say two baldes for penetration ... magnus are good , i like to give them a TANTO TIP....

  • cool.

  • I've been shooting 800 gr.+ since the 80's....

Alaskan Archery Grizzly Sticks @ 28", 200 gr. 2 blade bevel edge, 100 gr. brass inserts.

  • @SpecialEd309

You are a rare breed my friend. I rarely see a bowhunter with a big boar set up. Most simply refuse to accept the fact that they are not equipped for the task at hand.

I shoot easton DG at 15.1gr an inch, 50 gr. brass inserts w/ 100 gr magnus stinger 2 blade heads for a total of 596 gr.. It seems to do ok.

  • BEST ADVICE ON YOUTUBE!

  • crazy hogs

  • Great i was waiting for someone to make a vid on the plate noone believes how thick it is, and hard. It gives the archer a good challange. better off with quartering away shots getting behind the plate is the challange.

    5** and Fav

    -PDC

  • that no joke about those shields!!i hit one with a 30-06 in the shield and the hog didnt miss a beat and kept on going.caught him an cam a few wks later with a scare on his shoulder.cool vid!5/5

    james

  • Wow.Tough bastards!!!

  • The shield ain't no joke no matter which state the hog is in.

    5/5

    -DUDE

  • wow, like hitting a brick wall!

  • The shield on those boars are impressive!! Keep the great videos coming!
