In the stock footage of Babe winning the world series, notice how hard he stomps home plate. I wonder if that was some sort of homage to Fred Merkle's boner in the 1908 season when he never touched second because he thought the game hade ended. Look up "Merkle's Boner" on Wikipedia for some good reading.
how come the ump says "Your outta the game" like a little kid, or like in a mocking tone. He doesnt sound serious, in fact, i think i would start laughing on him, and then kick dirt on his shoes, like artie lange does in Beerleague. Just kick so much red clay all over his shoes!
I'd like to thank everyone on here for talking about baseball history. I find it interesting. As an Englishman, my sport is soccer and aside from basketball and ice hockey (usually at an amateur level) there isn't much call for American sports over here although they're trying to get us into NFL right now. Now I've watched baseball and to be honest its not my thing but I like reading the comments here with regards to history etc
@Jermyn78 It's fine man. The thing is there are a lot of sports from Britain we don't play here as well; it doesn't make them any less interesting. It's good to see somebody who has respect for sports regardless to whether they are foreign or domestic. There are highly skilled and spectacular players in every sport.
Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford were infamous rivals. Cobb would call Crawford a 'Nigger' from the dugout becuase of how big his nose was. Although Cobb disliked the way the Babe played the game, hitting home runs and such, they had a very good relationship. They played golf together in the off-season and Cobb even spoke at the Babe's funeral.
Trivia: Ty Cobb used to sharpen his spikes before a game and from the dugout, call Babe Ruth: "Nigger" because of how big Babe's nose was. Ty and the Babe were the most infamous rivals in the game.
Back then, spitting in an umpire's face was only a fined offence. The worst offence you could do was "fix" games. other than that, baseball had no limits. :)
King Kelly in the 1880s used to run from first base to third, and the crowd would cheer. "He's stealing third from first!!!" they would shout...and it was considered legal
"Is that a homerun? No thats a left cross!" Best freakin line in the movie

Philadelphia Atheltics were banned from the National League at one point for refusing to play games and for gambling on their own games lol.

I think I'd feel a bit giddy too if someone bought me a 200 acre farm complete with livestock and handed it over as if it was nothing. haha
