Believe it or not the WCCW, WCW and WWF gave me a lot of insiration growing up and gave me the belief that I could accomplish anyting.....ended up a Super Bowl Champ and now an Engineer and father of 4. Wrestlers like Kerry Von Erich got me through some rough teenage years.....RIP and Thanks!!!
Kerry was the first of my late 80s/90s Heroes, who died. Soon followed by Andre and then Davey Boy, Curt Hennig, Hercules, Hawk, Earthquake, Owen Hart, Dino Bravo, Boss Man and so many others - and now Randy Savage. It´s hard to watch something like Wrestle Mania 7 and you realize that the most of the Superstars are dead and gone...just a few years later :-(
if kerry decided to go to jail instead..how much time would he have been looking at?..considering it just being the 1990's..Reason i ask this is back then alot of drug charges were paid by 30 days in jail then 2 yrs probation..
18 years today! Such a sad day in history for all of us Kerry fans. I was lucky enuff to meet him and I choose to remember the person I met that day. Who showed me he was a great wrestler but also a wonderful human being. He spent time to talk and sign autographs. Then he went and spent time with some special needs people who were there. After the match, he went to speak to a local boys club. He was truly someone special. I choose to remember Kerry as a man, not a superstar. RIP Kerry!
I was working sound at a "Dallas Beach Party" where they haul in sand and have a concert and I remember a person catching my attention back stage and there was no doubt in my mind when I looked straight at him , I knew instantly it was Kerry~~~I eventually made my way fairly close to him and the energy he had around him was one of a kind. R I P Kerry Von Erich
well we used to watch kerry and all the vonericks every saturday night in lebanon in the middle of the lebanese civil war ,got to say great moments and memories still remain within me thanks to the vonericks family ,god bless them all !!!!!!!!!!!
I read Playboy Gary Hart's book. They used to call him Uncle Gary. They had their demons. Namely their dad. He ignored their problems and rebelled against him. According to Hart. He controlled their finances and never paid them alot of money. Everything I've heard and read seems to paint the problems were as a result of their Dad. Too bad. Steroids, drugs and alcohol.
Personally want alive long enough to appreciate his work. Yes he had his problems but he was a talented SOB. Only recently have i seen some of his WCCW matches to truly appreciate his work.
So beautifuly done!! I'm sure Kerry would love it, he truly had no idea how much he meant to so many people! The Von Erich's are and ALWAYS WILL BE, "THE FIRST FAMILY OF WRESTLING!! GOB BLESS THEM ALL!!
I had this awesome Kerry poster, where he was in the white trunks with black boots, white fringes on the boots and white knee pads, looking supertan with the white head band and that amazing smile. Had such a HUGE crush on him and a little one on Kevin too. It's sooo sad about the family.
Not really- he was a drug addict, he had been given chances to be clean several times for drug offences, this time he was facing serious jail time & probably would not have been out until he was 40 or older.
Factor in he only had one foot, WCW would have been gone by the time he was out & WWF buried him in 1991/1992, he was not facing a great future.
He became a drug addict because he was constantly in pain from wrestling on a prostetic foot. Pain killers for the pain and then blow for the uppers to complete the schedule of his wrestling career. bad combo
All the brothers were drug addicts, Kerry was taking steroids at a young age, on his return from his honeymoon in Mexico in 1983, he was found to be in possession of a huge quantity of drugs he had hidden .
He would pass out in his car & have to be drageed out & sent to the ring, he would sometimes fall asleep in matches, he once tied his shoelaces round a chair & fell over- all this before the amputation in 1986.
I don't, I am just a long time wrestling fan, if you want to know the truth about them, I would recommend the 1988 Penthouse article on them- this can be found in an excellent book called Wrestling Babylon, which also covers the mysterious death of Jimmy Snuka's girlfriend among other things.
Also the Wrestling Observer issue covering his death, this can be found in the first Tribute book- along with many other excellent career overviews- both well worth the money.
Go to RF video web site and type in von erich on their shoot interview page. You'll get a list of wrestlers that mention the Von Erichs in their interviews.
I think he was facing a 2 year sentence which was the same amount of time that Ken Patera served for the McDonalds incident. He would have been 35 when he got out, not 40, and WCW would have still been there
i watch kerry now and i can't believe how good he was. too bad he died one year before i was born every time my dad watches the wccw dvd i have to leave because it was so sad if he would have lived just a few years longer maybe i could have met him. i sometimes imagine what would it be like if he was still alive today i wonder what i would do. my dad met kerry when he was in high school and has a picture of him. i love that picture so much. live on kerry live on
ok know im not a newb ive been watchin wrestlig since a little kid in the 80's and i dont remember kerry in wcw not once,,but why the hell does it say wcw on one of the pics!? (2:04)
wccw will live on forever in my heart, kerry was the real modern day warrior and im am so glad i got to see him and his brothers perform they made me the wrestling fan i am today. I remember going to the coliseum here in Lubbock, anxious to see them, kevin if you ever read this, thanks for the memories and i promise no matter how exciting the wrestlers are today....none will entertain me as much as you and your brothers did..much love...
Kerry Von Erich,Texas Wrestling Legend. I lived in the Dallas area when I was a young kid back in the early 80's. I will never forget how popular the Von Erichs were in Texas.
The first one to go (sorry to sound so rude) was Jackie, who was electrocuted at age 6. I loved them too. Kevin was my favorite. My bro and I imitated WCCW in 85 (at it's peak) and I was Kevin.

Did anyone know that he wrestled with a partially amputated foot caused from a 1986 motorcycle incident? You can notice a slight limp when he walks. When he went for a shower Kerry left his boot on to hide the fact he had amputated foot
Kerry Von Erich was one of the Greatest Men who ever lived!!! A truly Fabulous athlete! & So incredibly gifted!! However long his life here on earth was, he made a positive impact! Without a doubt, Kerry Von Erich was a great role model for my generation as well as future generations of young men!!
Von Eric curse?? Drugs?? What happend to the legecy? Still not much better than Kerry Rolling up Flair for the BELT no matter how long it lasted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome video!!! He sure was a great wrestler, was one of my chilhood heroes and what an honore it was to watch him perform! I'm not much of a music person, but does anyone know the name of the song playing in the background? REALLY fits the video, once again, great job on this awesome video. Thanks for posting it!
it makes me sick how people always DE-value Kevin Von Erich.kevin was talented.and his high style .was the pre cursor to what have seen in the late 90s and 2000's .i wont stand by and let people shit on any member of this Great Texas Family.
I hear ya braveheart. kevin was my favorite also. even though I loved all the von erichs. kevin's high flying style always impressed me. now I know that style of wrestling originated and was very popular in mexico. however, kevin was the one who first began to make it popular in the U.s. kevin is the precusor to ray mysterio. anyway, lets not let anyone forget these great TEXAS legends.
Actually if david would have stayed around wrestling would be totally different,so many brothers,so much talent wasted, they could have taken over wrestling for along time.Shame we will never know.
David was slated to win the NWA title before his death. Had the family been able to stay together, there's not telling how different the pro wrestling landscape might be.
If David had not died WCCW would have been bigger than WWF. Everything that made WWF grow popular, the larger than life characters, down to the way wrestling was shot originated in WCCW. David had such a great mind for the business and was about to be handed the reigns to the company by Fritz when he died.
Kerry was only the biggest eventual star, because David died before his time. Dave was the lynch pin of the Von Erichs. Kerry lacked Dave's charisma and Kevin lacked Daves drive and Dave's death seemed to take all the love of the business he ever had out of him.
Perfect song choice; Kerry would have been 47 on February 3rd, 2007. There was a DVD produced last year called "Heroes of World Class" that tells the story of the Von Erichs and documents the rise and fall of World Class. From what I've seen on the net, it's worth it!
today is the 19th year anniversary of his death, wow"!! Hard to believe he has been gone almost 20 years.

Out of all the Von Erichs, Kerry was the only one who
stood out and made it big time. Former NWA World Champion and WWE Intercontinental Champion.
