  • Lol, Ben Kweller doesn't know what to do with his hands without a guitar in them.

    Solution: air guitar.

  • @Fliko @LeshaAnn @VoidLS just enjoy the song and if you dont go listen to beiber the greatest ARTIST OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!

  • You know what I miss? Really good guy singers. I mean, there is nothing wrong with these "sofa voices", but thats all there is any more! The nineties made it not cool to "try". So now everybody does this.. and it's a bit boring. Where is a "Sting"? Or a "Billy Joel"? Or even "A-Ha"? Good guy singers are relegated to R+B, or pop-idol stuff, or metal maybe. But "alt" seems to mean "no trying to sing well" for guys (but girls are allowed). Meh.

  • @getkristan I have to disagree. Ben Folds has a fantastic singing voice imo and there are many others in alternative music who do too. Rufus Wainwright, Adam Green, Colin Meloy, Patrick Watson, Fleet Foxes...there are plenty. The 'unstable' voice thing is just probably more common in indie/alt music, as it's more about conveying a feeling than striving for technical perfection. Just the thing many pop-singers are lacking these days: Feeling!

  • @NoekieB Rufus and Patrick have good voices (not great IMHO).. but Adam Green and Colin Meloy are pretty much exactly what I mean. If you heard them with a guitar busking and you didn't know them you'd go.. "meh". I mean .. there used to be Dylans, Johnny Cashs and Lou Reeds too (ie not great singers) but there was *also* Freddy Mercury, Hall and Oates, George Michaels, Jeff Buckley, Morrissey, Duran Duran, y'know? .. and feeling? C'mon.. Adam Green is more emotionless than T-Pain.

  • What about Ben Dover?

  • I wish there was a separate comment section for arguments. I can't even say how much I enjoyed this without feeling like my comment will just get lost in all the mesh.

  • @pigreenk07 i totally agree. i never bother commenting on youtube for that reason. shitheads ruin it for everyone. i LOVE this song, by the way. it's done perfectly.

  • @fiko - American Idol was never created for making big stars out of people who could sing... It's always been about making money... That's why none of them really ever turn out too successful give or take a few...

  • @Postullio13 American Idol winners yes, but some of the actual contestants who got weeded out because they didn't adhere to the tastes of popular music (like country) could actually sing.

  • Why is Kweller playing the air guitar the whole time?

  • Not a patch on the 2 versions from the film. No feeling in this.

  • I like this more than the original cast version but not as much as the film version...

  • I just wish Ben Folds had gotten to sing a verse!

  • This whole album is weak and I am a BIG Hedwig fan.

  • @FUNCHOMCLALA I never get that , what would you want ? Would you want them to sound just like the sound track?

  • This whole album is weak and I am a BIG Hedwig fan.

  • my only complaint is that kweller killed the melody towards the middle and ending. other than that, i like.

  • nice and self version so much about what it is

  • I loved it. Wish I could buy it somewhere.

  • I don't mind a little bit of out of tune, but this is just annoying. Got tired of it fast.

  • Stephen Trask can sure write a decent tune!!! Lovely song, both versions of it!

  • Wow. I realize the singer wasn't 100% perfectly in tune, but that's actually what I like about it. They put their own little bit into this awesome song and made it their own. No slick polish. Just raw. Love it.

  • @lisadewild I agree about the vocals. That's how I've always felt about Ben Folds and Ben Kweller, in particular.

  • I think it's great, and I read loads of comments about modern music not being as great as the Classic stuff. Well, I was there for the Classic stuff, and it Was great, Is great......but great music is still being made today, and here is a prime example.

  • I'm 53 years old and DO remember when artists worked hour after hour perfecting their craft, so they COULD sing with nearly perfect pitch WITHOUT the use of artificial devices to keep them in pitch.. Artistic interpretation aside, it's a great cover, but a little too off key for my ear.

  • @shinberg is it weird that i feel impressed at that? you fooled us, good job on the internet ^^

btw guys, he's right. the vocals are weak, but in comparison to tommy gnosis's version it's angelic. hence why i like this version.

    (gnosis made my ears bleed)

  • very very artistic!!!

  • why is it that when I look up the lyrics to this song its different from the one their singing? Did they change it?

  • @cutestkittyface

There were two versions in the movie. One sung by Hedwig and one sung by Tommy. Look up the Tommy Gnosis version.

  • This Version along with The Breeders are the best i've seen..... :-)

  • weird... -_-

  • @shinberg Ben Kweller is amazing in this. listen to some of his songs he sounds the same in all of them.

  • @shinberg This is not BFF. The Bens is a collaboration of three different musicians. Ben Kewller's music is typically infectiously raw and unedited and he's the one singing this piece.

  • @shinberg and precisely the REASON this version WORKS

  • @shinberg The reason you think these vocals are "bad" is probably because you are SO young, that you can't remember a time when popular music hadn't become the flat, soul-less, auto-tuned American-Idol style overproduced CRAP that is spoonfed (or shoved down the throat of) to the Masses by the dinosaur record companies. I feel sorry for you. "Perfection is stagnation."

  • @LeshaAnn WOW you said that extremely well. I think the waver in his voice brings more legitimacy to the song and a real sense of true feeling. I really love this version of "Wicked Little Town" , and screw it if someone can't see where this was coming from.

  • @LeshaAnn I'm a little pissed about how pretentious you sound but I'll try to keep this response civil. His voice is bad because it lacks depth and sounds like a 15 year old trying to enunciate like Bob Dylan. The only thing remotely interesting about his voice is that he managed to make a career with it.

  • @VoidLS Check the thumbs-up count of my comment versus yours. Obviously musical tastes are subjective in the extreme, but yours is clearly in the minority among people who really know music, who feel it to their core and live or die by it. It's the youthful, plaintive nature of his voice that makes it so compelling!

  • @LeshaAnn I wasn't really commenting on the emotion behind his voice, I was commenting on the quality of it. Wicked Little Town, to me, is a song that requires a certain quality of voice. His isn't it. And I'm not saying that his voice doesn't have a place in the music industry, Bob Dylan couldn't sing either.

  • @LeshaAnn holy shit, this made me laugh so much :D Nice!

  • @LeshaAnn Terrible that you choose to pay attention to American Idol more then you do the great bands that are around today. You get thumbs up because you are supporting the artist with a comment on the artist's video. People have the choice to like or dislike music, deal with it and stop being pretentious. The voices are a bit lifeless and dull in this video, and that is what adds the flavour to the song. My god did I mention how annoying it is that YOU must CAPITALIZE letters in your comments.

  • @Fliko Well, you have me dead to rights on the capitalization thing (I wouldn't do it if I could underline), but you are way off the mark on the rest of it. I have never, I repeat NEVER, watched American Idol, Dancing With The Has-beens, or any o' that shit. I know there's fantastic music being produced to this very day; I said "POPULAR music" is (and was) soulless. As for being pretentious, what, did I use a word you don't understand or something? I've never been to college, so...???

  • @LeshaAnn You made a comment about the singers on American Idol being auto-tuned, and crap. There are a few very amazing soulful singers that have passed through American Idol, go check out Haley Reinhart. Yet again you are pretentious suggesting that your vocabulary is better then mine, and you were pretentious before when you were sorry for shinbergs' 'young opinion'. Going to college doesn't make you pretentious. Some popular music is soulful and full of talent, stop trying to be cool.

  • @Fliko "[S]top trying to be cool"??! I don't have to try, Baby!

  • @LeshaAnn lesha I think [F]liko is threatened by your Superior linguistic skills...lol

  • @LeshaAnn You had to get your buddy dillinger9999 to come insult me on an internet arguement? You're pathetic.

  • @Fliko I didn't ask him, or tell, him, to, so I'm not sure, um: What's your beef, Wellington?

  • @Fliko listen she doesn't pretend to be cool she IS COOL!! there is NO TRYING! take your baseless opinions and sucket! also anyone on american idol are just crap. maybe some of those people will do better later on but while they're on AI they all sucked! even that show sucked. and dont give me the shit how millions love it. just becuz millions love them doesn't make it good. if millions like a horrible thing its still a horrible thing. im sure your a good guy but your comments are asinine..

  • @dillinger9999 You seem a tiny bit younger then LeshaAnn, she probably thinks you are stupid and just uses you to make herself feel good when she loses pointless internet arguments. They didn't all suck on AI, the majority of them were boring singers who had boring tastes in music, but some of them really did shine. It's obvious you never read my or any one else's posts in this thread, just LeshaAnns.

  • @Fliko dont pretend to think you know us. you are REALLY threatened by the way she STRUCTURES her sentences, & if you had ANY sense at all you would see by the way she writes she's NEVER been to any COLLEGE. if you look at the way she writes she has a very high IQ. you are losing an argument with Lesha and then you go on to attack her writing and how you feel she's talking DOWN to you. AND thats you shit not her's own it buddy!! Lesha is one of the finest people you could ever meet.

  • @dillinger9999 Yeah that's cool

  • @LeshaAnn lol awesome

  • @LeshaAnn HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF BOB DYLAN?

  • @jenoeno6 Of course... You're making my argument for me! Bob Dylan is from a time when heart mattered more than image, perfectly auto-tuned. Early Dylan is absolutely amazing.

  • @LeshaAnn .. and now I just read your comment .. Well, I *am* old enough to remember a time when being a singer meant not singing like you just woke up. Y'know, working on range and control and stuff because it was your *instrument*. Just like if everybody played guitar like Bob Dylan.. ok.. *maybe* there's honest soul behind it, but theres nothing wrong with trying to get skillz. You dont dis Adele, right? Great voice with great technique. Show me a guy who compares nowadays. Not allowed.

  • VERY nice version of a great song.

  • background vocals +1

  • Pero si desafina!!! =S

  • Ah...wh...what happened at 2:44?

  • @AnarchalPatriarch

    I agree, lol.

  • Eek

  • one of the best covers I've seen o.O

  • muito bom, muito bom, muito bom!!!!

  • excellent version of this song!

  • I cant believe this only has 478 views. This is a cool song, and they do it better than any. You can tell Kweller likes this song alot.

  • how have i never heard this, did they realese more than the 3 or 4 songs from the EP?

  • Yes, they recorded this one too for "Wig in a box", an album featuring some artists covering songs from the musical "Hedwig and the Angry Inch"
