The Officium by Jan Garbarek & The Hilliard Ensemble, is such a great and powerful work, the sax is amazing in there. I'm enchainted with it. It's totally beautiful.
Beautiful! I never realised a sax could sound so good for those more moving/emotional compositions! Mark Knopfler - Irish boy! Check it out another equally moving but not much heard instrumental classic!
First off, lovely photos I like them and am thankful you shared them with us, please don't ever take them down.
Second I have been searching for this song, for a long time, I am glad you had it on here so I have the name, I wanted have this played at my funeral. I am glad I found this before I passed on, thank you, your an angel.
Thanks, there were many beautiful Tall Ships present, they were my main interest but I do like the contrast of having them side by side with the modern war ships etc. especially the American Aircraft Carriers whose sheer size is awesome, these are quite regular visitors and tend to be anchored in the Solent off Stokes Bay for several days. They are truly astounding but the Tall Ships are beautiful.
Thanks for your kind words but these photos really aren't that brilliant, if I could have been bothered to drag a tripod around with me for three days they would have been a lot better but as the lens alone weighs over a kilo.I couldn't be bothered,as I was after all out walking my dog and just took the camera along with me.

parce mihi domine ... is's fantastic, beautiful, mystic, full of passion, but Garbarek is destroying it with his sax. Listen to the non-sax-version on the same cd.
It seams strange to me that you have your opinion, which is fair enough but the vast majority of people love this with the sax and the Hilliard Ensemble were happy with both the concept and result, yet you consider your opinion over rides everyone else's and you are right.
You must be a very important person.
Obviously, as I posted this, I own the CD and obviously I chose the version with the sax as I prefer it.
Sorry, it was Lisa's own idea! And what did You want to say? Someone who is posting such a video, hasn't got the right to tell his opinion about anything?
Apart from this my request was an answer to HugoSax, who wrote: "It looks lie yasgi didn't understand the essence of this experiment!..."
Firstly if you leave a comment on my video I need neither approval or permission to address it.
Music has always been open to interpretation and improvisation indeed the monks were improvising their pre Gregorian chants long before de Morales` time.
All music is evolving and always will be whether you like it or not.
We have already established that you consider this to be sacrilege but we have not established why you return here if you dislike it so much.
I'm in the minority, yes. So what? Haven't You ever been in this position? What did You do then? Keep silent?
I agree to what You say about the character of music. But Hilliards and Garbarek are also doing a job. So do I. And sometimes I get a lot of stick in my job, may I accept it or not. That's life. I can be angry about it, but should I try to forbid criticism? You wrote of sacrileges: Is it a sacrilege to critisize musicians? Can't an interpretation be of good or bad quality?
Your interpretation is purely subjective, thats fine, for you this is bad ok no problem but why try to persuade others who have reached their own personal decision and like it that they are wrong to do so.
Hilliards and Garbarek are gifted musicians who are pushing the boundaries and rightly so but not everyone is going to like it which is fine it is right to criticize if you don't like it but not to criticize others for liking it.
The creative process is about provoking a reaction-good or bad.
Hilliards and Garbarek are exeptionally gifted musicians, that's right. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought their CD's, both Hilliards' a n d Garbarek's! But where and when have I critisized others for liking what You've posted here?
On the other hand i must confess, that it's a snap justement to speak of Garbarek as a destroyer of this piece of music. But it was just an opinion, somehow metaphoric, exaggerated, and not stated as a fact (which would be nothing but nonsense - one cannot "destroy" music, one can only distroy an instrument).
A huge thanks for posting this, I was fortunate to have listened to this approx 10 years ago. I was so taken back by the cd I went out and bought it, unfortunately lent it to some one & never had it returned. Have been stumped for years trying to remember what & who, even posted a message on the classical forum asking for help but now I have come across your poting I now the title & artist & ordered it yesterday.
Thanks for your comment, I agree this is a hauntingly beautiful piece but I think I have a slight preference for:O salutaris hostia, which I also have up on YouTube on the Winter Sunrises.
once again this awfull garbarek

Nah, Burn I like the ships man.
Too bad they are starting to scrape
Battleships. The had a powerful wepon.
but their range was shit.
They now use Destroyers.
Battleships, are said to have a range of 20 miles..
While the new destroyer they made sometime in the late 1990's has a range effective up to 200 I hear.
Good thing Cuba didn't get ahold of that shit back in 1963.

Why have you set me up as your target,
so that I am now a burden to myself?
Why do you not forgive my sin
and why do you not take away my guilt?
Behold, I shall now lie down in the dust:
if you come looking for me I shall have ceased to exist.

While a beautiful recording...the english text translation puts it in context. Usually performed during the Anglican or Catholic Good Friday Mass...
Spare me, Lord, for my days are as nothing.
What is Man, that you should make so much of us?
Or why should you set your heart upon us?
You visit us at dawn,
and put us to the test at any moment.
Will you not spare me and let me be,
while I swallow my saliva?
If I have sinned, how have I hurt you,
O guardian of mankind? Continued ...

Perhaps you should stick to viewing voyeuristic videos of young girls with wobbling breasts, as per the only video you have posted on YouTube.

That is not exactly keeping an open mind to the views and opinions of others, you are stating it as a "fact".
