@A13xozbrn Hello there. This black & white version was released in 1993 for the ORIGINAL Game Boy. Back in those days, the Game Boy did not have color graphics. It was a sad time, but games like this made up for it! We didn't know the difference back then, so not having color didn't effect us. In 1998 Nintendo released the "Game Boy Color", and re-released Link's Awakening in color as "DX" or "Deluxe". Differences include a new Color Dungeon, Photo Album, GB Printer Support & COLOR graphics! :)

OMG!!! I remember this game! I used to play it when I was like 6 years old on my Gameboy Color and my mom got rid of it... and the game too but I got a Gameboy Color now (im 13) and I found it on Ebay and I got it like less than a week after the 3ds came out! lol and ever since I've been on a hunt for Link's Awakening. Even though I was born in 1995, I grew up on a lot of older video games, some from my parents' generation. I feel blessed to have been a child in a time before all the focus in videogames was on the storyline (leading to endless cutscenes) or the graphics (which are nothing but window dressing, if a game is fun to play, I will enjoy playing it no matter how it appears, even if it has simple Pong-like graphics and sound effects, much like early Atari games). This is one of my favorite games. ^_^

This brings back such wonderful memories for me. Thank you for posting this. Some of the moments of this game are among my favorite in any video game, such as when you first get the sword. Before that, you are helpless, trying to avoid the sea monsters. Afterwards, you are all-powerful and omnipotent and they are helpless. Also, I love getting a piece of power. ^_^ The background music and the fact that one sword swipe to an enemy zaps him and sends him fifty feet away makes that incredibly fun.

Same here. Guardian acorns are fun too. That music and the zapping from the piece of power that happens is one of the most kickass things in a videogame. Same thing with me using the sword. I loved the complete change of power and status that took place, rather than at the enemies' mercy, they just became easy prey and quick rupees. I would feel omnipotent, having fun being the big bully of the shore. And then I went into the mysterious woods, enemies weren't quite as easy prey there.

I loved playing this game way back in the day, despite it taking me four years to beat. I was looking for help everywhere on how to find the actual levels and beat them. I remember how ecstatic I was the night I finally beat the game. Good times.
