So the reason for marriage is to have children..anyway, I feel that our nation as a post-industrial society is seeing a lack of children born. The lack of children is understandable as people have come to the understanding that having many children is no longer necessary. Parents no longer need as many children as they do not need the labor force on their farms and the infant mortality rate is incredibly low. Marriage is entirely a religious act and to deny homosexuals the same right is wrong.

It's not because of homosexual couples that people are having less children, it's because of changing social ideals. People don't want a farm house and seven kids anymore. Now people want to not only keep up with the Jones', but beat them too. Children get in the way with that, women aren't having children as young which leaves less time for procreation.

there is actually a lot more to it than that. yes it is good to have a favorable population ratio, but in order to determine this you need to determine how fast the economy is growing and needs to grow. there are some countries where population is a huge hindrance to economic growth, such as mexico. once the population reaches a certain level it is advisable for it not to grow any more. the US is just about at this point. this is an economic reality. taxes are alsonotonly way govmakesmoney

Laci only said that "marriage" should be called "civil unions" by the government and that would leave the churches with "marriage" so that people stop arguing about the "sanctity of marriage" crap and also because a 'civil union' is exactly what it sounds like: a legal partnership of two people. That way, everyone can have their cake and eat it too. Churches decide who can marry, but the government decides who gets benefits. Separation of church and state.

So adoption, international adoption, and surrogate birthing plans are not even considered in this video? I think it's more or a question of quality and not quantity. People don't have kids just to bump the number up.

While I do not support his views. He is correct to say that countries in the "developed world" need to up their birth rates so as to allow economic growth. It may not be good for the environment but in a strictly economic sense he is correct

Can you say, "internally inconsistent"? To begin a video on this subject espousing that tax breaks due to procreation fortify our nationalistic integrity, a completely unsubstantiated claim. Then to conclude with a mini sermon on how our government needs to uphold the sanctity of the Christian institution of marriage, strikes me as just a little inconsistent. In fact, it makes me think the first part of the argument was just a load of made up bullshit.

You seem to believe that people will stop having children if the government does not endorse marriage. They will still have kids.
Marriage is not a Christian institution.
Given your stated position, I would expect that you would deny me the right to remarry if my wife should die.
I have had a vasectomy, so any future marriage of mine would be without children.

You believe homosexuals should mate with the opposite sex & live a lie, cheating on their spouse, & ultimately leave the parent of their children because they can't live with the opposite sex anymore then you could live with the same sex? Perhaps gay people should just live lives of solitude?

Prop 8 was approved 52%-48%. 10 years ago it was 60%-40%. Don't act like it was a shutout, as if all of California was outraged. It was a tiny margin, and guess what, it's not over, buddy.
Your argument sucks by the way. 14th amendment: all citizens are equal. Of course government will not stop using the word "marriage". But that's all it is, a word. Your church can do whatever it wants, but gay citizens pay their taxes too, and they deserve the same rights. Let freedom ring.

Assuming your premise that the tax benefits for marriage is to help propogate the American citizenry is correct, wouldn't it be beneficial to permit same sex marriages if for no other reason than to ensure these couples adopt the children that have overflowed into the foster system nationwide?

If the only point to marriage is to procreate, then people should get tax breaks for rape and adultery and the infertile and elderly should not be able to get married. What is wrong with equal legal rights for everyone?

She wants Civil Unions to fill the legal role marriage currently has, leaving blessing etc to religion. Civil Unions would not just be for gay people!
Straight people can still get the tax breaks by having a civil union! and if they like they can get a religious marriage too!
Marriage doesnt oblige anyone to have children by the way!
