You know, Shirley Bassy was chosen to sing many of the themes for the James Bond films in the 1960's , but Miss Ennis could have easily filled her shoes and exceeded those performances.
It always takes me a while to get back to you: I am also a fan of Shirley Bassy. She ha[d][s] such a powerful voice and I love the stuff she did during the sixties. As for a comparison . . . I would rate them both the same as far a vocal ability --- on a scale of 1 to 10 --- a 10+. Shirley has the power, but Ethel has the melody and jazzy delivery. Doubtless she could have easily done those James Bond films --- but I think the interpretations would have been different. Have a nice Xmas.
Saw this when first released and loved it. Still do! What an incredible theme song by Ethel Ennis!!!! The remake, like most remakes, will NEVER be as much fun!
I saw this movie as a kid.. This movie is perfect for a CGI re working and keeping the all the elements of the story. The song could be sung by Amy Winehouse This singer is right up there with Nina Simone, Shirly Bassey...
McRae, Nancy Wilson, Ethel Ennis type . . . and whoever produced it probably [sadly] wouldn't do it in a jazz style --- personally, I hope it's never redone. The original Rankin-Bass Production is a 'Mona Lisa' in and of itself.
I love MAD MONSTER PARTY and this great title song by Ethel Ennis! I remember having so much fun watching the movie Christmas night as the second feature on CHILLER THEATER(hosted by Chilly Billy Cardille)in 1971! The first feature was SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS. Excellent clip!
Wonderful theme song - I love this movie, but the music outshines it by far, and this opening song sets a great tone for what's to come - "The Mummy" "It's Our Time to Shine" "Never Was a Love Like Mine" "Stay One Step Ahead." I'm getting the soundtrack DVD for my boyfriend for Christmas. Can't wait!
you know the songs by heart? lol I do, have the DVD, VHS, Soundtrack, and so on! lol I'm a freek for this movie. Have been for 23 years, my whole life! lol!
the way this song goes could just about to pas asa james bond song

How about no remake - just a crisp restoration of this original gem on dvd and let's make some our own original movies?

Amen . . . it seems everyone wants to
re-make the old classics. The people
that created these, were creative people ---
I say, we should learn how to be as creative
as they were . . . not stand on their shoulders and duplicate what they did.

I disagree . . . you'd need a jazz singer
of Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen
McRae, Nancy Wilson, Ethel Ennis type . . . and whoever produced it probably [sadly] wouldn't do it in a jazz style --- personally, I hope it's never redone. The original Rankin-Bass Production is a 'Mona Lisa' in and of itself.
