This track is a homage to the kraut-rock group Neu! It was released on a various artist compilation album called ' Brand Neu! ' Neu! have influenced many groups, like Coldplay as well as, Kasabian,U2 and Oasis.' The Shock Of The Lightning ' has a Neu! feel to it, as Noel himself has admitted in interview. For it he took the best bits of ' Quick Wave Machinelle ' and ' Wave Naturelle ' , in comparison to U2 who used the latter for inspiration for ' With Or Without You. '

Be Here Now was the most under-rated album of the last 60 years, and the needless negative criticism led Noel to start trying a new music method, which quite frankly failed to produced anything within the same league as his earlier stuff (he did produce some amazing tracks, but for reasons known only to himself he opted for 'she is love' , Little James etc etc over far superior stuff, which ended up B sides or released.
